Social media although a great tool can become an addiction ultimately affecting our lives and state of mind. That is why we need to limit the amount of time and information we share on social networks. Although the internet is a tool full of good and bad available to everyone, teenagers and young adults are more prone to falling into the traps of the internet. People also abuse social media and overuse it every day because they are concerned with what is happening every hour. Social media is a tool not a necessity and should never be abused or used as a diary because it could result in unwanted consequences that can hurt us in the future. Social networks such as Facebook and Twitter seem user-friendly but we should never rely on them as a …show more content…
One of the things though is that we don’t only see schemes on social networks it could happen on any site that requires you to share information. Things like online shopping require you to share some of your personal information along with your bank information so if the site doesn’t have a strong security system it can have consequences. There are intelligent hacker1s and scammers that can breach the security system and steal your bank information. Three simple steps such as typing your name, birthdate, and zip code is more than enough for someone to try and steal your identity or use your information to their advantage. Theodore Claypoole in “Privacy and Social Media” said how the United States is trying its best to pass laws and keep up to date with new software in order to help protect people from falling into the realms of cyber criminals (Privacy and Social Media). As time passes technology is advancing and sharing our information is becoming easier, so it’s necessary for our security software to be up to …show more content…
The attacks can go on forever towards the victim due to the lack of unawareness of others reporting or putting a stop to the bullying. In “Cyberbullying and Cyber threats: Responding to the Challenge of Online and Social Aggression, Threats, and Distress” it says “Teens are reluctant to tell adults for fear of overreaction, restriction from online activities, and possible retaliation from the cyberbully”(Willard, pg. 1). Teens are scared to report incidents like this because they think adults will overreact and not believe that someone can bully you online due to the fact that bullying has always taken place in person and not from behind a screen. Teens are also scared of the outcome that can result from the cyberbully if they report the harassment because they may feel that the bullying will multiply. Another real-life example, “Mary, an obese high school student, was changing in the locker room after gym class. Jessica took a covert picture of her with her cell phone camera. Within seconds, the picture was flying around the cell phones at school (Willard, pg. 1)”. The example shows us how cyberbullying can develop into something big within a matter of seconds. The victim could face bullying at home and school with no time of peace. Not just in social media but victims could receive taunting emails and text messages to their phone
“Like my status,” “like my photo,” and “like my tweet” are all common phrases that can be overhead in any conversation, whether it is on the street or in your own home. Sharing a post on any social media can result in an explosion of awareness for all those who utilize these platforms. People have started to use social media to raise awareness for serious issues like Black Lives Matter or for simply sharing a video of a dog standing on its hind legs. Many social media platforms, specifically Facebook, have a reputation of posting photos that say, “1 like = 1 prayer.” Even though everyone knows these posts are anything but reliable, many users still tend to share the post and expose it to friends and family members. These organizations have
Over time evolution becomes prominent in the world. The way that things where done in the past has become extinct. A prime example of this is the presidential election over the past two presidential terms. From the times of Nixon and john f Kennedy till potential future presidents Hillary Clinton and Donald trump. The use of social media and television has influenced potential younger voters through on going presidential election through hashtag slogans, presidential filters and news outlets.
Many people have access to social media daily. Sometimes people do not even think about how much they rely on social media. Many jobs would not exist if it were not for the social media; jobs like computer repair and even the people who created the computer and social media websites would not have jobs. People of today need to take a moment and realize and think about if all this social media use is
Social media is so popular that according to a recent article published by forbes.com, “72% of American adults are currently using social media sites; that figure has gone up 800% in just 8 years”(Olenski). Social networking was originally created to simply reconnect people with old high school pals, but in recent years it has evolved into a completely different operation. When social media first originated it was also intended for adult usage, which has in recent years expanded into the usage of all ages. Social media can create a negative affect on lives because it has been proven to be a dangerous addiction, for it takes away interpersonal relationships that are essential in life, and it has been proven to prevent people from being productive in life.
Purpose of Study Individuals should understand that the use or nonuse of social media has negative and positive effects on their lives, whether they recognize them or not. Students who excessively use social networking applications can be negatively affected because they are spending too much time on these applications rather than paying attention in class, completing homework, studying, sleeping, or focusing on their own health and condition. However, these same students who are excessive users are often times the students who are more aware of global issues and updates in pop culture through the use of social media. Students who moderately use social networking applications spend a good amount of time on these applications and are still able to manage time for sleeping, practicing good eating habits, homework, and studying. These students are usually just as aware, or slightly less aware, than students who excessively use social networking.
Due to the high amount of emails that we often send out every day, my suggestion is to include hyperlink icons to our signature in emails in Outlook to increase Comcast’s visibility and followers. We have a variety of social media sites that our employees and customers do not even know about. Most people know that we have a Comcast page on Facebook, but did you know that we have a Comcast Impact, XFINITY, and XFINITY Latino page as well? In addition, we also have a Comcast LinkedIn, where our employees can access latest news, insights, and opportunities or to simply stay connected with one another. Along with that, we also have a Twitter for XFINITY, NBC Universal, and ComcastCares, where it’s the official support account that provides help and technical support to our customers. Additionally, we also have Comcast California Twitter that shows the latest tweets about the events that are taking place locally. Lastly, we have an Instagram account for XFINITY to keep everyone updated about our latest technology and events and a Comcast YouTube to let people have a taste of what’s in
Did you remember to tell your cousin happy birthday on Facebook? Do you know how many people liked your latest picture on instagram? Or how many retweets did you get on your totally relatable and borderline inspirational tweet? As of January 2014, 74% of online adults use social networking sites (Rainie). Also more than 9 out of 10 American teenagers use social media(Blaszczak). Because of social networking we are becoming more connected than ever before. Important information can spread faster than wildfire, and we now have the ability to have friends and relationships all over the world. With the ability to communicate and interact with anyone at our fingertips what could go wrong? Well...lots of things.
When I was in high school a student by the name of Ife went into a coma after a heat stroke and died from a brain aneurism all within 24 hours. His parents were in Africa at the time. The next day I showed up to school wearing all blue alongside 800 other students to show respect towards Ife and his family. Many students and faculty even donated money to help. Together we cried, celebrated a life taken too soon, and supported one another through a hardship. How did everyone find out about this tragedy though? How did everyone know to wear blue? Why did a whole community of people who didn’t really know each other come together as one? The answer is social media. One text was spread across Instagram with hashtags such as #ripIfe or #blue4Ife
A 16 year old decided she would send a nude photo to a guy who she was in a relationship with for two years. The guy who she assumed she was in a committed relationship with, decided he would betray her by sending her nude photo to everyone at their local high school. This situation, involving the use of social networking, was first overlooked by school officials, but quickly turned into something much larger. A parent took a look at her teenage son’s cell phone and discovered the provocative photo. As a result, the parent decided to contact local authorities. What first seemed to be a cruel joke, turned out to be a case of cyber bullying. This is an example of how social networking, once used as an advantage, is increasingly becoming a danger to those who utilize it. Social

Social media has nothing but negative effects on people’s minds. Social networking can become very addicting and people can get wrapped up in the drama and excitement of the cyber world. It would only improve our society today if social media never existed to our knowledge. Our society today feels so connected with social media that it interferes with our lives making every task even harder with the temptations.

With so many people competing on social media nowadays, it can be difficult for a person or business to promote themselves with their content. At times, this can be extremely discouraging to some. When you post a clever or cool status, it can be troublesome when it only gets 4 likes. However, there are plenty of ways to get around this and expend your feedback. As any article will tell you, the best way to get your content noticed is to target your message to your audience and understand how to optimize each social media platform to its fullest.
There are about one and a half billion users of social media worldwide. It can be used to meet new people, find old friends, chat the day away, join interest groups, or even to share pictures. Social networks were mostly created so people could meet and find new friends. What most users of social media don't know, are the dangers of using social media. One example is when you meet a person online, because they are not always who they say they are. If someone is not who you may think they are, who could they be? They can be a stalker or a person that wants to steal your identity; which could be done easily thanks to new developments of new technology. Also thanks to new technology it is now easier for people using your information to track you. Posting personal information can risk your family and friends lives. Social media can be used as a weapon against you. It can even lead to a kidnapping, or even someone's death. Many people use social media to help to waste time, but could also become an unhealthy addiction. Also social media can damage your future. When you are a teen you tend to post pretty much anything you want. This is dangerous because you can post too much personal information. What most teens don't realize is that what they do on social media now can affect them for the rest of their life. It can even come back to haunt you in the future. Social media is dangerous because it makes it easier to be stalked, identity theft to happen, kidnappings and murders, and also can ruin your future.
Social Networking sites play an essential role in today’s culture as they provide people with the ability to interact, blog, share pictures and videos, flirt, and date without having to move an inch. People pour their minds and hearts into the world of cyber communication; it is an easier way for them to clear their heads without having a face-to-face confrontation. Undoubtedly, this is advantageous to certain people. It helps establish connections with people, friends and family from any corner of the world, but one cannot ignore the extensive privacy breach that occurs in the universe of online social media.
