Modern technology has made information much easier to obtain. The Internet and World Wide Web have given people the ability to access all sorts of information very quickly and quite easily. This is an advantage for many people, especially in business. Scholars can quickly share information amongst each other to help them learn more about a topic for example. Students can learn more about anything they want simply by using a search engine such as Google to browse the web. In the last decade, we have witnessed an evolution of the Internet and the rise of social media. The Internet is still growing every day and only seems to be getting bigger and more complex.

The open communication platform gives people the ability to exchange information quickly. People can collaborate on anything from personal relationships to business and professional topics. You can keep in touch with your family and friends or you can network your professional skills online. Social media does have some drawbacks though. Having your personal information posted online can lead to privacy problems. Hackers and criminals can access your information and use it for fraudulent purposes. You also must keep in mind that the things you post can and will be viewed by others. This can potentially lead to problems both in your personal life and your professional career. Anything can be posted online whether it is true or not. There is something called “click bait” online which is where there is an interesting bit of information displayed with a hyperlink to access it. Once you click on it you get redirected to an advertisement or to a story that is nothing like the sensationalized headline that you originally clicked on. Credible information is not impossible to find online, you just must know where to start looking for it. I have learned over the years that sources of reliable information online are generally websites that end with .org or .edu.
