When one thinks of a dominant student-athlete, most of the time, the focus is only on the athletic field. However, the majority of our student-athletes excel both on and off the field. I have had the privilege of coaching Elena Propst, a dominant student-athlete, who excels on the field and in the classroom. As a top student and the best player on the soccer team, Elena leads by example. Her character is showcased through her contributions to civic organizations such as Varsity Blue.

As an athlete, Elena is one of the best soccer players in the state. She has spent a lot of time honing her craft. Due to her strong work ethic and dedication, she has played multiple positions at one of the highest club soccer levels. During the high school season last year, she scored thirty goals and led the team in assists. She also became the record holder for the most goals in a season for our conference. Elena is an all-conference, all-region, and a potential all-state player for the 2018 season. However, her most impressive stat is that Elena led a team full freshmen and sophomores to an 11 and 10 record, a dramatic improvement over the previous year’s record of 4 and 15. …show more content…

During competition, she has a very high intensity that players feed off of. She never fades during a game and expects the same from her teammates. Due to her strong work ethic, she can demand the same from others. She is one of the few players that have the ability to unite a team. In athletics, coaches often speak of intangibles, the immeasurable qualities that leaders have. Elena has a lot of intangibles that draw other players to follow her
