Do you know anything about Jackie Robinson? Well don’t worry, if you don’t I will explain to you. Jackie Robinson is an inspiration by entering the Major League Baseball and changing history. I think this because he made white players accept him and by changing segregation.

In 1991 there was so little media interest in the event, almost no one even knew the United States had a team, and even less people knew that the United States won. Eight years later, “tickets sales reached 388,000,” more than triple the amount of sales in the 1995 Women’s World Cup (Longman). FIFA was depending on this World Cup to gain popularity, they needed more interest to spark people to play. If the United States had not won, it was predicted that not many in the suburban would not have much interest in soccer. Millions of young girls across the United States came to this event. After the World Cup it “will celebrate the explosive growth of soccer for women in the United States, where 7.5 million female players are registered, according to a recent survey by the Soccer Industry Council of America, a trade group. In suburbia, where the game flourishes, girls' soccer has become as popular as sport utility vehicles” (Longman). This World Cup team changed the perspective that soccer was only for males. “‘ We're fighting the myths and prejudices that women's soccer felt in the U.S. in the 70's,'' said Andrea Rodebaugh… 'That there are sports for boys and sports for girls and that soccer is not for girls, not feminine’” (Longman). This team changed the lives for many girls. The team gave little girls hope and faith they could make it in soccer. This team made them believe they could follow their passions.

Diana is an excellent illustration of the many struggles of women to find a place for themselves in sports. On an individual level, defying societal stereotypes is extremely difficult. The buriers that the first person must overcome are often extreme. However once the first person breaks down those buriers, it becomes increasingly easier for others to follow in their footsteps. Diana's struggle demonstrates both how far women have come and how far women still have to go.
“Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!” These were the words spoken by ESPN’s Mike Breen during Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals, describing one of the best defensive plays in NBA history. The intended outcome of my research is to demonstrate that Professional Woman’s Soccer is not afforded the same opportunities or prestige as Professional Men’s Soccer. I intend to demonstrate this by researching the following key areas; the comparative success of each team, difference in pay, difference in how the games are played, a comparison of how many games are played each season and an insight into how the two sports are portrayed and covered by the media. The two team being researched throughout are the Liverpool Football Club, the men’s team, and the Liverpool Ladies Football Club, the woman’s team.
Mercedes Pacheco is the youngest member of a group of family-oriented athletes. Athletics are nothing rare in the Pacheco family; from her father who swam for the Lobos, to her brother, Nathanael, who played soccer at Gonzaga. Mercedes herself entered into the athletic world at a young age, however, her first sport wasn’t the sport that she stuck with. At a young age, she started as a dancer and gymnast without giving any attention to other sports. It was in 8th grade though that she had the opportunity to try out for sports and so she gave volleyball a chance. She fell in love with the game, quit dance and gymnastics and “from then on, it’s just been volleyball.”

The widespread knowledge of soccer has spread throughout numerous countries. Soccer began as primarily a men’s sport, but today soccer is considered a sport that both genders participate in. Women’s soccer has changed dramatically over the years with the increase in popularity as well as new style and rules of the game.
