The start of my professional up bringing began at the age of fourteen when I made the courageous decision to join the youth development group 4-H. That one choice was the beginning of my professional future. I had a couple friends that were already involved, so I asked them the simple question; “What is 4-H”, and they said a youth development organization in which our club focuses on the growth, development, and health of dairy cattle. After hearing that answer, I knew I wanted to be included. The following Monday I took the initiative to go to the county extension office to fill out all the paperwork and from there on out I was on my way to building my professional skills. In 4-H I held the officer positions of Treasurer for two years, and …show more content…

From when I started high school to now, there is a colossal difference in my professional development and capabilities. Beginning freshman year, I did not have the mental capability to stand in front of a crowd of two hundred and fifty people to talk for even a minute, now I can do that with an exceptional presentation. Professional development is a stage that every human being should have to go through, because it is the key to the professional world and

After reading the essay On Writing by Stephen King, it was apparent that improving writing skills is important. The beginning to forming a better career is to first read because “one learns most clearly what not to do by reading bad prose”. (King) Improving writing skills can further improve verbal communication skills and help to advance in life. When someone improves their writing skills, they can then improve their verbal communication skills. Improving both verbal and written communication skills will lead to a better career path.
Being a leader you need to be in tune with your talents, strength’s, and weaknesses. Personally I feel I have many skills and talents. I am a great friend, I’m trustworthy and dependable. I can step up to the plate if needed and I can take control of certain situations without being told to. I love writing and being able to express my feelings or thoughts through writing and poetry. Along with my talents and skills I also have weaknesses. Knowing your weaknesses is twice as important as knowing your strengths in my opinion. One weakness of mine is being motivated. Once I start a task I will finish it and put 150% effort into it, but actually starting the task is my problem. Another weakness of mine is change. I have a problem with drastic change; I have a comfort with familiarity. With every leader there is going to be strengths and weaknesses and I think it’s very
Baseline Skills: I am still a bit timid when it comes to my verbal skills, but throughout my life, these skills have been slowly developing. Verbal communication is the most common form of communication. Verbal communication is used everyday, whether it is ordering a coffee in the morning, lunch at a restaurant, or telling the store clerk what size dress I need. Ever since I was a baby, I was taught to verbally communicate. It is one of the major stepping-stones in a person’s life. Through education, I have had to strengthen my skills for interviews and speeches. For example, I have had job interviews, volunteer interviews, and interviews to get into certain education programs like honor societies. I’ve taken speech classes, where we had to give a speech every month including memoirs, informative speeches, declarative speeches, and debates. At my last dance
Early on in my career as a teacher I learned the value of professional growth for myself. This took the form of professional development that I gained from conferences I attended and grants I was awarded. I also knew that I could share what I learned with others within my school and presenting at conferences. As an educational technology leader I use the knowledge and skills gained from my university classes in providing professional develop...
Knowing what I can do well is just important as knowing what needs improvement. My strongest attributes are being able to perform under pressure and multitasking. This is necessary to sell products and perform services that benefit the customer. The value of getting the job done correctly and on time correlates to returning customers and repeat business. My competitive advantage over others in the same industry is the high level of service we offer. I don’t just push a product on a client. I listen to what they want and need, make suggestions for the best available solutions; and I also help them with cost savings and environmentally friendly alternatives. One weakness I have and need to work on is public speaking. As I grow in my career and move into managerial leader positions, I will have a lot more opportunities to give speeches. I plan to work on my public speaking skills by practicing and making incremental changes to constantly improve. It’s not a matter of being shy in front of a group. It’s more of a point to be well prepared for the occasion and motivated to do a good job. To stay prepared for opportunities and change, I plan on continuing my education in the business field, and learning as much as possible about my job. I will also need to stay up-to-date with current issues in my external and internal
One of my greatest skills is being able to be compassionate towards others. By placing myself into someone else’s shoes, I find myself being able to better understand where other people are coming from. I am an extremely caring person that will go to great lengths for anyone. I can easily overlook the differences in other people, and this is what helps me get along with almost anyone that I come across. In order to lead people in a positive direction you need to be able to relate to them on a more personal level. It is much easier when people feel comfortable around their leader. I always like to lend a helping hand or even a shoulder to cry on when it is needed. My strengths include integrity, optimism, faith, innovation, and adaptability. These strengths are important to have in leadership positions. Leaders should have a firm hold on their beliefs and morals in order to have a positive impact on people. Keeping my commitments is crucial to me, because I am a woman of my word. I think this is a good trait in leadership, because people need to be able to count on the person that they look up to. Optimism is also something I value. I belie...
...nderstanding and reader comprehension. In future, I could well apply methods and skills to manage conflicts if I confront with difficult situations. Similarly, studying different leadership models of characters in cases is a good way to developing my leadership skills.
- Strengthening skills is a matter of both professional and personal development. Seeking and practicing leadership skills in any field, such as administration and finance, will assist with the continued development of the technical competence needed for the positions as well as the skills needed to be an effective role model and motivator.
There are several factors that can make professional development beneficial. I believe that most important thing that makes professional development successful is that it is applicable to your situation and it is ongoing. In my experience, some of the best ways to achieve this have been through instructional/literacy coaches and teacher-based teams. I am a visual learner so it always helped me to watch another teach or coach model the strategy that I was trying to implement within the context of my actual classroom. I have also benefited from having a coach observe me implementing various strategies and offering suggestions to make it more successful. I have also found it extremely beneficial to meet frequently with teacher based teams.
Such skills as communication, creativity, and critical thinking. I would argue that critical thinking is easily the most important because if one does not critically think about something they will not be creative. Also, if they do not critically think before they begin to communicate eventually no one will listen.
Continuing professional development is important for the individual because it ensures they continue to be knowledgeable
"A leader is an individual (or, rarely, a set of individuals) who significantly affects the thoughts, feelings, and/or behaviors of a significant number of individuals” (Gardner, Howard 2012). An essential part of a leader lies in their ability to motivate and influence people to follow their lead. Leaders are both men and women who have the ability to influence others in a community, control situations, connect with others and persuade others to follow them or the goals they define. To be a good leader one must set a good example and make correct decisions for difficult choices. I myself am implementing leadership skills into my every day life. Leadership skills are all around us. They can be applied to any situation where one may be required to take the lead. This can be

The competencies I have developed throughout my academic and professional career are interpersonal skills, organizational management, community involvement, listening, observational skills, and verbal communication. The area where I always struggled with ever since elementary school was my writing. I was not aware how important my writing skills were in the field that I had chosen to study until my first social work course. My first social work class I remember receiving many grades below an b because of my grammar, but receiving great grades on presentations and home -work assignments. Having a talk with one of my professors, she told me about resources on campus and tools I could use an online. Ever since the encouraging words of my professor, I made it my duty to receive extra when it came time to do reports, papers or case notes. I made sure that I started my papers on time so I could re-read my assignments before it 's due and used a writer-editor online to assist me. The journey I made through my academic career seemed easier when I had put in more time doing my coursework and learning how to ask for help when I was in need. I do believe as I continue my academic career and grow professionally I will continue to get
