When we think of the probation field, we think that they have it the easiest, but sadly that is far from true. You will learn how hard of a job it can be for probation officers, and just how much they have on their plate. As I was talking with the probation officers, I wanted to find out why did he pick the probationary field? As he stated, “He enjoys helping and trying to get his clients to better themselves, after committing a crime.” Just when you hit rock bottom, that does not always mean you can’t get back up again. That’s where the probation field comes into play. They are the ones that try and give them the last chance to change before either going back to jail, or being let free back into reality. They need to make sure that they have completed every task that was asked of them, and that the probation officers, have offered and done all that they could for their client to not commit anymore crimes. …show more content…
As he stated “they use interpreters for certain clients, have monthly meetings and seminars they have to attend, to also learn about changes in the cultural needs.” As the demographic keeps changing, they will continue to keep enhancing their curriculum and learning to continue to better for society. It’s very important for the probation officers to know about their religion, and the way that they live their lives. Each diverse group has their own way of living, and it is very important for the probation officers, to stay updated and current with the changes in the way of living. But, it is also important that they know our law system, and adapt to the changes in society for them, so they learn not to commit the crime that they have
This element is able to be used as an alternative to being in jail, or another form of punishment. It also works to deter further criminal activities and temptations, a means of punishment, and individually help the offender themselves. Unfortunately, there is evidence suggesting racial and gender disparities when it comes to probation. All in all, the proportion of black and white people based on their overall population size and percentage actually partaking in these punishments is very disproportionate. There are also disparities correlating between Hispanic as well, all of which is growing media attention. On the other hand when it comes to gender, females are treated differently than men. This is apparent when it comes to treatment and length of sentencing.
Parole is a controversial issue because its vase ways to debate the challenges and problems that will exist. It’s like a side effect to medication based on one’s effectiveness belief. In like manner, the public media allows others who aren’t immediately effected to become tertiary, and secondary victims. It is the door to open opinions. An inmate is released from a sentence given parole and then assigned a parole and probation officer. The one thing that will make probation and parole successful is the supervision of the program and rehabilitation or residential treatment center. This will support the goal to maximize the good behavior and minimize the harmful behaviors of individuals. Probation is a good program because it’s a form of rehabilitation that gives inmates elevate space to obey rules and regulations. On the contrary, probation is risky just like any new diet plan that people use to
A probation system is an opportunity offered to offenders with minor crimes or good behavior in where the offender is not send to jail instead he/she is put it in probation in where they have to report to a police officer and they have to follow the court orders and cannot break the law. Usually probation is an opportunity for offenders to reintegrated with the community. The North Carolina Probation system is based on supervising the offenders and help them succeed. Also making sure that the offenders don't go back to prison or jail. The organization of the probation system is very similar to a corrections goal which is overall rehabilitation. Probation is not given to anyone, before an offender is place on probation a judge would look at all his criminals record, acts against
The criminal justice field is made up of many facets. The court system includes many professions which include lawyers, judges, police officers and polygraph examiners. The federal justice system has numerous professions as well. Two highly recognizable organizations in the government criminal justice system are the CIA and the FBI. Two careers of interest worth future investigation are a polygraph examiner and a special agent in the FBI.
There is some important history he or she should know about the profession. Probation and parole officers have been around for quite some time. They are very important in the society we have today.
At the age of 20, Benjamin has been involved with the criminal justice system for many years. This is case, although not the most interesting case to some, really stuck my interest. At the age of 19, I could not image having to follow probation stipulations and making appointments to check in with my probation officer. The thought of having to live that type of life style is stressful by itself.
If I was to become a probation officer, one thing I would want to be is efficient, and successful. There would be several things I would try to focalize my attention on; supervision in communities, and its importance. Probation officers have very complex, and hard job; but if done with the right intentions, and the will to help people you can help change people’s lives.
All in all, the ideas surrounding the criminal justice system were affirmed by the field practice experience. Many open doors have resulted from the venture into the field of probation. As an advocate and future employee of the criminal justice system the skills and intellect gained from the college of criminal justice at SHSU along with the internship opportunity with the Dallas County Adult Probation Department will serve as a path to a successful career. The talented individuals and extraordinary situations encountered on the journey will not be forgotten.
In Trinidad and Tobago the Probation of Offenders Act Chapter 13:51 is the piece of Legislation that governs the operations of the Probation Services Division of the Ministry of Social Development. This is already a disadvantage as being under the Social Development Ministry already makes the case load a bit too much as the Probation Officer will have to act more than one role. This model will not fall under the Social Development ministry, as I believe the Probation Services should fall under the Ministry of Justice as they work hand in hand. The probation services will be located next to or perhaps inside of the juvenile detention facility as to be easily accessed by juvenile offenders and Probation officers so as to g...
Many people who find themselves engulfed in law enforcement or criminal justice careers desire to serve their community; to help others and protect the citizens from offenders who have caused harm, by breaking the law. There are several career paths that a person can take to achieve their goal to serve their communities. Parole officers focus their efforts on enforcing conditions of release, incarcerating those who fail to comply with those conditions, reintegrating offenders safely into society, and closely monitoring parolees, thereby protecting the community.
The officers meet periodically with offenders on probation to ensure that they are complying with court-mandated orders, along with assuring that they are not committing new crimes. Despite the challenges, the career of being a probation officer has many great opportunities. These opportunities range from seeing new things, learning new ways to think, along with things you can apply to your life outside of your job! This also includes decent pay. The median 2010 annual pay for probation officers and correctional treatment specialists was $47,200, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (Rewards of Being a Probation Officer). One majorly important thing about this job is also the job security because crimes remain a regular part of life in communities. Being significant to to the offender and even the community is a great opportunity to have. As an officer you play an important role in society and in the law enforcement process. Helping offenders fall back into society not only benefits the offender, but the community as well. Being able to help someone set goals and rehabilitate from a criminal conviction is a great opportunity in
Located in a medium-sized city, this probation facility serves a population both from urban and suburban areas. The office is staffed with 56 officers, with an average daily caseload (moderate and high–risk probationers) of 2,250. The state maintains a combined probation and parole division as part of the Bureau of Community Corrections that functions within a unified Department of Correction. As a result, Probation and Parole (P&P) services are part of the state’s blended sentencing system based on levels ranging from one through five: Level 1 includes non-reporting probation, Level 2 denotes standard probation requiring monthly contact with a PO, Level 3 is intensive probation requiring weekly contact with a PO, Level 4 includes community corrections, and Level 5 represents secure corrections incarceration. Although the P&P Division is responsible for levels 1 through 3, the Bureau of Community Corrections also uses Level 4 community correction centers for
When I was in my undergrad interning at the family court, I was working under a liaison for the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services and her job were to sign up youth for community hours such as intakes, and other things as well. My main job was to assess the clients, gather information and also let them know about the process for probation. I enjoyed gain experienced going into court for a hearing, arraignment meetings, and also sitting in on a probation officer PACT assessment. What has been most challenging for me, I was asked to do a PACT assessment on one of the clients and this was a difficult challenge because I feel as though I did not have the confidences or the courage to assess a client. The probation officer provided
The guest speaker has a lot of information over probation officers. He explained how probation officers need to know self-defense and have communication skills. He also told the class that probation officers should bring a police officer in bigger cities because it can be dangerous for probation officers to go alone. On the bright side, probation officers also get paid more if they live in a bigger city. I also learned that probation officers do not carry a gun on them. This information made an impact on me because I want to become a probation officer in the future and this information was helpful to me.
However, the number of cases in such situations is much smaller than for those who serve their sentence to term (Larkin, 2013). It is also good to note that offenders who are on probation are not just released to the community. They are not left to their own vices but rather are monitored by a probation officer not only to help them to go through the journey to reformation but to also help in protecting the society from probationers who may want to go back to society. This monitoring is helpful in helping these offenders who overcome any temptations to go back to
