When I was in my undergrad interning at the family court, I was working under a liaison for the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services and her job were to sign up youth for community hours such as intakes, and other things as well. My main job was to assess the clients, gather information and also let them know about the process for probation. I enjoyed gain experienced going into court for a hearing, arraignment meetings, and also sitting in on a probation officer PACT assessment. What has been most challenging for me, I was asked to do a PACT assessment on one of the clients and this was a difficult challenge because I feel as though I did not have the confidences or the courage to assess a client. The probation officer provided
I have not worked with clients in a formal counseling setting. However, I know the importance of clients taking assessments to gain a better understanding. For example, if the client is having difficulty selecting a career, I would have the client take a career assessment to determine client strengths. Then, the client can use the evaluation to research jobs that would allow the client to use their strengths.
A youth that has committed a delinquent offense will be monitored by a caseworker which might involve home and school visits, drug screens or anything else that may be a stipulation or requirement of the probation. Sometimes the youth is committed to the custody of the state and then that worker is responsible for assessing the level of care, safety, and supervision the youth will require while in custody. This is accomplished through a series of assessments, interviews and observations. The Juvenile Justice worker should make every effort to include the parent or guardian in the assessment and decision making process involving the youth and shoul...
The most important thing is giving his or her parolee a drug test every month they come in for a checkup. They are a special type of psychologist that can read body language. They have multiple tasks to do on a daily basis. They also need to write a summary on their parolee every month that could help them with court and if they ever have problems in the future. It can also give them an advantage against the judge or anybody in the court with whoever is going against them.
R: As a probation officer it is my ethical duty to report one of my probationers when they are in violation of the consent they sign to remain out of trouble of any public places such as bars and being Jill is under age. As community officer or federal officer it is my responsibility to uphold the code of ethics when it comes to my interaction with my probationers especially when they are in violation. “As a Federal Probation Officer, I am dedicated to rendering professional service to the courts, the parole authorities, and the community at large in effecting the social adjustment of the offender” (Close & Meier, 2003, p.168).
I spent the day with Lea Keylon, sole owner of Keylon Counseling & Consulting in Arlington Washington (L. Keylon, personal communication, March 26, 2010). Lea is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) performing mental health and forensic counseling services (L. Keylon, personal communication, March 26, 2010). Over a thirty five year period, Lea worked in a variety of settings e.g., Echo Glen Children's Center (a juvenile offender detention center); Triage Supervisor for Snoho...
It is a process that the juvenile has to comply with for an informal probation other than going to jail, and conditions are set by the court (Torbet, 1997). The juvenile probation is called the workhorse (Delisi, & Conis, 2013). The juvenile probation system has programs to help with issues for the juveniles and their families. There is a team of people in the court system who all work together to help and treat juveniles with serious mental issues. The team is comprised of judges, juvenile probation department, county medical hospital, District attorneys office, and the public defenders office.
The community corrections experience begins, first two weeks as a probation officer and then two weeks as a probationer. As for my experience being the probationer was easiest. Probationer arrives late for first meeting, no problem. Probationer has no job, no problem. Probationer doesn’t want to stop drinking, let’s work on that. Probationer hasn’t attend last three meetings for anger management, let’s see if we can find something that fits your schedule. I know as the probationer in my experience my probation officer made it easy for me, she easily changed the subject if I started acting peculiar, when I was unable to do
As employees and sworn corrections officer of the Georgia Department of Juvenile justice (DOJJ) we are responsible when we are on duty for ourselves, juveniles, and staff members at all time. We are supposed to set the example daily because we are always being watch by others, display ethical behavior and maintain moral within our organization. Since juvenile correctional officers have many duties, like guiding and acting as life coaches for young inmates that might be mentally, emotionally, or psychologically which calls for them to have qualified staff members on hand to help with their situation. But like everything is this world this world we need to retain a wide variety of qualified staff members from all type of back ground.
My first exposure to the criminal justice system was while in high school when I was fortunate to be chosen for an internship with a District Judge John Vance in Dallas, Texas. Judge Vance made certain I had a rich and varied experience. He had me to sit in on several high profile cases in his court and to participate in preparing cases for trial with a prosecutor and defense attorney. In addition, he encouraged me to visit other courtrooms and courthouses to observe the proceedings. This along with him coordinating visits at local jails and law enforcement agencies gave me a broad and well-rounded perspective of the criminal justice system. I recall fondly, sitting in on closing arguments at the federal courthouse; the prosecutors practiced
They combine current and past criminal information on inmates from police and judicial sources into complete legal reports which assist Parole Board Members with parole decisions. Officers supervise those who are approved to be released on parole and work with other state agencies and community resources to build intervention programs which facilitate the parolee's successful integration back into society. The officer may perform random drug testing, monitor employment history and meet weekly or bimonthly with the offender to guide the parolee's observance of parole conditions
The topic, which I chose, is probation officer. A probation officer supervises offenders who are out of jail or sentenced to community service. It related to juvenile justice in many ways. For starters when an adolescent is sentenced, the probation officer is the first to be with the kid. Second, the probation officer is also there to look out for the kid and tell them what is right and wrong. Thirdly, a probation officer is there to keep check on the adolescent and help them in whatever way they can. Their goal is to help rehabilitate the offenders. Probation Officers work with social services, law enforcement and other department with education, training, counseling, housing and job placement. The job of the
Therapy Analysis The purpose of this paper is to examine the efficacy of my work as a co-therapist during the fifth session with the simulated couple Katy and Michelle. I will discuss our therapy agenda and the goals we hope to attain during the session. It is prudent to begin by giving a brief outline of the couple’s present problem and the patterns of dysfunction that I have identified within their relationship. In my opinion, it is the therapist’s job to recognize patterns and behaviors that disrupt the intimate bond between the partners.
Working with others and improving own learning and performance are highly essential skills in social work. In this essay I will reflect on how well I have developed these two skills and what I need to do to improve them.
I used to hang out with a group of so called friends; who were on probation constantly, and most of the crime my friends committed was theft, drugs and drinking alcohol. They would steal the expensive smoking pipe from the tattoo place without care if anyone is watching them. Being around with them, I started to develop the habit of stealing. I had caught once by the police, and they gave me a warning, since the item that I stole weren’t valuable and weren’t expensive. After my friends arresting, they went through the probation process where the officer interviewed them about the crime, school attendance, and living situation, and other topics. They also interviewed the officer who arrested them, the victim, and the parents of the child. My
Correctional counselors normally perform the task of classifying and assessing the offenders. Nevertheless,
