Mental Health Probation Mental health probation is for offenders who have severe and persistent mentally illness (Delisi,
& Conis, 2013). This probation tries to decrease recidivism, but the probation officer does hold the malefactor accountable for their crime(s). The probation also tries to lower the cost of protecting the community while utilizing a cost effectiveness and getting the offender treatment.
Mental health probation helps with the long-term security for the offender, and helping them become a productive, law abiding, and furnish positive relationships with their friends, their family, and also with the community they live in. It is a process that the juvenile has to comply with for an informal probation other than going to jail, and conditions are set by the court (Torbet, 1997). The juvenile probation is called the workhorse (Delisi, & Conis, 2013). The juvenile probation system has programs to help with issues for the juveniles and their families. There is a team of people in the court system who all work together to help and treat juveniles with serious mental issues. The team is comprised of judges, juvenile probation department, county medical hospital, District attorneys office, and the public defenders office. A juvenile can stay in jail depending upon the seriousness of the crime they have committed. The offenders that get on juvenile probation is, of course, juveniles, low-level offenders, first time offenders, ones who commit property crime, person offenses, public disorder, and drug violations (Butts, J., et al, 1995). It is an alternative to juveniles who commit harsher crimes (Delisi,
2013). A juvenile can go out on patrol with police officers as apart of police-probation who perform home visits.

Sex-offenders have to attend treatment, can be put on electronic monitor, submit to a polygraph test, give probation officer home address, register as a sex-offender, and has to let the Department of Public Safety know if they move or change their address. There is no drinking or drugs, they may have to give up their computers, tell sex partners about their history, and some even chemically castrated. Sex-offenders may have more than two probation officers or parole officers. An unit team will monitor and help to rehabilitate the offender. The sex-offender will have a curfew and have to pay fines and restitution. Sex-offenders may have more counseling than other probationers, and can have a daily checkup where probation officer has to hear or see them (Delisi, & Conis, 2013). Sex- offenders cannot have any type of pornography, no 900 number either. The people who are on sex- offender probation are child molesters, sexual abusers of children, incest, lewd and lascivious acts, taking a child for the purpose of prostitution, and failing to register as a sex-offender.
