Cost effectiveness is an example of how community corrections have more of a positive effect on the community. One benefit of probation and parole is that is has a much lower cost. It costs roughly $1,300 per person a year for probation or parole. Having a person on probation or parole also puts money into the community. Another good benefit that parole and probation has is increased employment. Inmates in prison have work-release programs but they have low-paying jobs that require little skill. Parole and probation allows ex-inmates the opportunity to get full-time j...

Being an officer who protects and serves is already quite terrifying. Having to be with inmates that have killed or assaulted people are the worst of the worst. A correctional officer has big responsibilities to keep themselves safe and their families safe when they go home later that day. You have to think about what goes through the minds of the inmates when you have to keep them in check, or watch over them. Do they want to kill you, your family, show up at your house.

They continue saying that one must be mature, tolerance, open minded, patience and self confidence. .( White, Gasperin, Nystrom, Ambrose, Esarey). This brings up a good point. Wanting to be a community correction officer must be a job one loves and have passion for it because the pay and burnouts that come along with it are not the greatest. One most really consider all the option, pros, and cons of the job before take it. Being a probation officer is like working in the back of a movie scene. Also that one must seen the offender beyond their offense. .( White, Gasperin, Nystrom, Ambrose, Esarey). Trying to see the offender by their offense takes a lot of humbleness. It’s hard to see pass someone who molested a child or murder and innocent child

Probation is defined “as a form of punishment allowing a criminal to stay within his/her community under close supervision following strict orders given by court officials and probation officers.” (Siegel and Bartollas, p.71) The goal of probation is to allow offenders to avoid the disgrace of feeling like they have been confined to prison. Nevertheless, the pros and cons to sentencing someone to probation are as followed; Pros: This form of punishment allows convicted offenders to show positive transformation by, giving back to their community through community service, reduce the high rate of recidivism as well as, urine and drug samples and required proof of employment; Verifying that change is being made. Electronic Monitoring allows court officials to determine whether criminals are truly obeying their orders. This form of punishment also has Cons: breaking probation and repeating the offense is very common when dealing with probation. Conservatives would say that probation is a “soft-crime” and has no real severity when in terms of punishment. In my opinion, I feel that probation is effective for only petty crimes like: theft, shoplifting, robbery, burglary etc. Teenagers are more deserving of this punishment because of the reality of being scared straight. Not being able to leave your house or Jail time for breaking probation Is usually what straightens out
School-based probation allows the probation officer to “ intervene in crisis situations involving the juvenile probationers, assist schools in handling disruptive behavior by probationers and other youths, coordinate interventions with the schools and other agencies, coordinate reentry efforts for youth returning from a juvenile justice facility, and serve as an agent of early intervention for disruptive or truant youth who are not yet involved in the juvenile justice system (Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention, n.d., p.
...ernment. On the other hand, probation is a judicial function. Also, parolees have already spent time in prison before being released into to the community while probationers usually haven’t (in most states). In some jurisdictions, both are supervised by state employed officers or agents, while in others they are supervised by separate probation or parole agencies (Stohr, Walsh, & Hemmens, 2013, p.270). Parole and probation officer (sometimes these jobs are combined in some jurisdictions) have two common roles: to protect the community and to assist the probationers/parolees to become more productive, law-abiding members of the community. This dual role makes them both law enforcement officers as well as social workers.
My plan in life is to become a Police Officer. Not only would that give me the opportunity to help other people but becoming a Police Officer also gives me the opportunity to follow in my Uncles footsteps and do something that I have wanted to do my whole life. I have always wanted to make a difference in the world, and this gives me the chance. Performing justice the right way and making sure that the laws of the government are obeyed is the job that I want to pursue. Being a Police Officer is a challenging job but also very rewarding. There would be a number of skills I would need to learn, not to mention that every day on the job would be a learning experience itself. Every single day that I would go to work, I would potentially be saving someone’s life. Stopping a speeder, arresting a criminal, preventing harmful attempts, they are things that would save someone’s life. Even if my actions were not as simple as that, for example, if I were to witness an accident or arrive onto the scene of one, just being there gives me the opportunity to take preventative measures. When I become a Police Officer, it woul...
