The criminal justice field is made up of many facets. The court system includes many professions which include lawyers, judges, police officers and polygraph examiners. The federal justice system has numerous professions as well. Two highly recognizable organizations in the government criminal justice system are the CIA and the FBI. Two careers of interest worth future investigation are a polygraph examiner and a special agent in the FBI. A polygraph examiner must have at least a bachelor’s degree. It does not have to be in any specific course of study but, it is highly recommended that your degree is one of four degrees. The four preferred degrees are criminal justice, forensic science, criminology, and forensic psychology. Another degree that will work is one in communications. A FBI special agent also needs to have a bachelor’s degree. An additional requirement is your GPA must be at least a 3.0. At the FBI what area you work in will determine the best degree concentration. A special agent investigating monetary crime should have a degree in accounting or finance. First, you need to figure out what education requirements you might need to complete. Both polygraph examiner and FBI special agent require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. It is good to check what the demand is for the profession you are interested in. Both of these jobs show growth into 2020 but, the examiner position has the highest percentage of increase. The special agent position pays more but requires work experience, a battery of testing, and longer work hours. A certified polygraph examiner with some experience can apply to work at the CIA or the FBI. Though these careers are similar it seems that a polygraph examiner is a better position to start with and then you can branch into the CIA or FBI if you
