5. Introduction
I have made an attempt to explore a relatively untreated arena of English Language Teaching in India. The long association of Indians and English has proved an advantage for the Indian youth. In the current globalized world, oral communication skills have gained importance. Learning language is not difficult for the Indian learners who have a multi-linguistic background. However, this background causes a difficulty which is reflected in their oral communication. While the written skills are more or less uniform, as they are acquired from books, the oral communicative behavior is diversified. This can be attributed to the absence of a conducible atmosphere to teach/learn Spoken English.

Reading games should be introduced in the classroom. That is, finding phrasal verbs, differentiating the mono, di, tri syllable words, differentiating nouns like common, abstract, animate, inanimate, etc. and verbs like transitive and intransitive in sentence or discourse will be helpful for the development of linguistic competence, which will enhance the reading comprehension of students.
17. Teaching listening comprehension should not be ignored. It may be taught in the following manner: How to understand a context, how to deduce meaning of an unknown item of vocabulary in a context, and how to understand the contextual / situational meanings of words.
18. Tape recorded dialogues could be played to the students so that they could listen to them, then the theme as well as questions may be asked on the basis of the dialogue. This type of practice will help the students' understanding capacity as well as their communicative competence.
19. Introducing listening games, sound discrimination (k, g, kh, gh), recognition of minimal pair (put, but), recognizing morphemes (free and bound morpheme),recognizing syllables in words, recognizing silent letters in words, identification of parts of speech, etc., will help build up the listening ability to discriminate L2 phonemes, morphemes and phonetic variation of …show more content…

Due to non-availability of fourth year students of engineering in the college campus and lack of financial support, I restricted my work to the jurisdiction of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Anantapur.
5. I have restricted my work on speaking skills of Indian engineering students.
6. The thesis is mainly on improving the speaking skills of Indian Engineering Students. The LSRW skills are discussed slightly and not in- depth.
7. The main drawbacks of our students are negative attitude towards the English language and discouragement from the peer groups, and lack of coordinated government efforts to promote English language learning.
8. Limited students’ voices are recorded due to busy schedule of the students as per the norms of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Anantapur.
5.8 Area of Further Research
Contrastive Analysis offers large scope for research to English language teachers with a commitment to investigating the cause of learner error. It may be said with Pit Corder that language error is not to be discarded. The presence of error in language learners is of great significance. The learner signals to the teacher the defects in the strategies adopted by him in his earnest attempt to teach English as a Second Language.
