Early adolescence is the best age to begin teaching healthy eating habits. During this developmental stage, children’s intellectual development is expanding in a major way. They are becoming curious and are eager to learn about things that interest them. This is also the age where children are more interested in helping their parents in tasks such as cooking. Abstract thought processes develop during early adolescence; children are able to understand more complex concepts and reason or argue their position on a subject. Because of these developmental changes, children are able to understand how unhealthy food directly affects them. Parents have the perfect opportunity to teach children how to cook healthy food by allowing children to help prepare …show more content…
To make it easier for children, parents can keep the refrigerator and pantry stocked with healthy snacks. Early adolescence is the age where children develop the habits they will have for life, so it is important that children learn the difference between healthy and unhealthy food. Since children are capable of understanding more complicated ideas, parents should explain why healthy eating is important and what can happen to their body if they develop unhealthy eating habits. It is also important not to make any food off limits, instead explain what foods are acceptable to eat everyday and foods that we know are unhealthy, like a piece of cake, are acceptable to eat sometimes in moderation. The importance of a daily exercise routine is something that parents should stress so that children will develop healthy lifestyle habits that will carry them into adulthood. The best way parents can teach children how to live a healthy lifestyle is to be a good role model since the way you live is the most important message your children will …show more content…
One of the first things that I would recommend is that schools completely remove unhealthy food options from their cafeterias. Schools should offer nutritious meals that meet the recommended guidelines for children. Cafeteria workers need to be trained in healthy food preparation techniques, as well as make food look appealing and tasty. Another important aspect to remember when planning meal times is to make sure that students have an adequate amount of time to eat. A final recommendation is that schools offer breakfast, lunch and after school snacks. Some children are at school early and late to participate in extracurricular activities. Offering breakfast and after school snacks for these students will ensure they have a healthy option to eat. As part of healthy lifestyle education, schools should encourage children to exercise by offering a variety of after school activities, as well as physical education classes and encouraging active play at
It is apparent that living an unhealthy lifestyle, as well as eating poorly, negatively affects one’s health. From a young age it is quickly learned which foods are considered healthful as opposed to junk food. It is a parents responsibility to supervise the intake of their child's food, however there is a higher risk than ever before of childhood obesity.
Parents always want what is best for their children. They strive to provide for them, teach them, and to watch them grow into healthy, loving individuals. Despite this many parents continue to foster a habit that may prevent the goal of good health, unhealthy eating. Americans today consume too much fat, sugar, and food in general and its shows; rates of obesity and weight/diet related diseases such as diabetes are extremely high. In order to slow and eventually put a stop to this trend parents need to not only be aware and informed, but also need to take action and institute healthy eating habits from the very beginning.
In today’s time, most parents are busy with their work. They don’t have time for their children. The child’s health depends on the parental influences. Parents have the most important role in their children activities. Some parents allow their children to consume more outside food and junk food. They do not have time to encourage their children to do physical activities and outdoor activities. The type of food available in the home and the food preferences of family members can influence the children diet and
Poor nutritional habits have been identified as one of many contributing factors to the increase in childhood obesity. While a multi-disciplinary approach involving family, teachers, medical care providers and the community is desirable, schools, particularly teachers, are in a unique position to play a major role in the education of children and adolescents about nutrition and the prevention of obesity. “Schools are important settings to implement prevention and intervention due to their access, duration of exposure, and subsequent impact on the behavior of children and adolescents” (Pyle, Sharkey, Yetter, Felix, Furlong, & Poston, 2006, p. 372). The challenge of schools, then, is to design and effectively implement a successful curriculum incorporating traditional lecture style, core information with the learning styles and technology skills of today’s 21st century learners, the Net Generation.
Some researchers claim that more than 300,000 Americans are dying due to obesity every year and the number is rising annually. That is a huge number and it can be fixed a number of ways but some individuals are lazy some can’t lose the weight because of medical reason. Obesity causes disease from diabetes to heart disease and in some cases death. Obesity in children is growing problems to children who are obese have a higher chance to get diabetes or heart failure. The school environment is one of several settings that can influence children’s food choices and eating habits. Schools can ensure that the available food and beverage options are healthy and help young people eat food that meets dietary recommendations for fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nonfat or low-fat dairy products.
Of all of the problems that dishearten children today, the one that bothers them the most is being unhealthy. Five out of six students from the Manalapan Englishtown Middle School agree that there should be a change in the schools' cafeteria foods; they came up with a solution to help kids be healthy. Unhealthy foods should be eliminated in schools for many reasons. First of all, kids concentrate better when they are healthy. Being healthy helps children to concentrate better because if they are healthy in the inside and the outside, they will not have to worry about their health or how they look. Secondly, having only healthy foods in school help parents to take good care of their kids. For instance, imagine a mom that is a seventh grade teacher. She is unable to cater for her child's lunch since she needs to wake up so early to go to work. She is aware that school lunches are not healthy and she wishes that the schools could create something more nutritional. If the schools create foods that are more nutritional such as vegetables everyday with a side of fruit and some kind of main, healthy meal, she would not have to worry about her child eating unhealthy foods in school. Lastly, children's bodies are still growing which is why eating healthy is very important. Picture a young child that is growing strong and tall. That child needs types of nutrition to germinate into a healthy adult. Foods such as vegetables, fruit, and meats include plenty of nutrition. If lunches have all those types of foods included in all lunches, then all of the children are going to grow as healthy as a ripe, shining tomato. In conclusion, would children pick to eat healthy?
Educational institutions have the potential to, first and foremost, educate and assist the young people of today with making the positive, healthful choices necessary to maintain good health. Over 4,500 students have been followed in recent research studies and these “thousands of sixth graders who participated in a school-based health program were less obese by eighth grade than a group of similar children who did not, according to a new study done for the National Institutes of Health” (Rabin). Schools need to create health programs focused on assisting all children suffering from being overweight or obese. Policies such as fitness programs, nutrition classes, and healthful meals can even impact every student by creating a strong foundation and awareness of the negative, long term effects associated with practicing unhealthy habits. Although the financial expenses would be necessary, the adaption of scho...
In this research, Healthy foods will be shown as a key light to express to Parent that it is important to keep their children as healthy as possible. Having a non healthy diet is extremely dangerous and preys on children that are aware of their surroundings. Healthy food choices
...thy eating habits and the importunacy of exercising may make a difference in their lives and maybe they will teach their parents the same things. Children do influence their parents, so it could make a difference in the home of making better choices for snacks that they choose to eat. We as parents need to encourage our children to get exercise by riding their bikes, going for walks, or playing some type of sport activity. So many children now days stay inside and eat unhealthy foods and play video games. That is why obesity is getting out of control and where the risk factors start to come in to play. Take the time to make good choices in our food selections and getting the right amount of exercise that we need, because it can help decrease the chances we may have of getting any of these diseases.
They will want to live a healthier life to make life easier for them. If schools promote better eating choices not only in the cafeteria, but within a variety of subject’s students will be motivated and influenced to always eat healthy even when not in school. This will prompt students to teach others the importance of eating healthy. Learning the variety of healthy foods will also motivate students to eat better. A lot of students prefer to not eat healthy mainly because they do not have knowledge of what different foods are. Teachers could allow students to participate in activities that will give them hand on experience so that students will know the difference of what foods should look like before they are eaten. Teachers, and other school supervisors should set the example of eating to ensure that there is an impact on students’ lives. “Creating a physical active classroom for students is another way for students to be motivated to eat healthy. Reading books to the class, and taking students outdoors as a science lesson will also help students gain knowledge about great food choices” (CDC 2). Students will be given the support and guidance they need to have when choosing the best foods that will benefit
It is important for parents to make the wise choice when it comes to the health, toys and responsibilities of their child. The choices they make for their child when they are young will reflect on who they become later on in life. The right foods, toys and amount of responsibilities will motivate your child to do the best they can in life, without over pushing them or under pushing them. Children need to know that their parents are their best friends and will only do what is best for them. The best thing you can do for your child is to stand by their choices and motivate them to the best of your abilities.Encouragement is the best action for a healthy child.
Eating healthy is arguably one of the most difficult things to do, and one of the most expensive activities too. Healthy food, although having many options out there, is not something that people can always afford, or they are ignorant of how to live healthy on a budget. The thesis of this essay is that eating healthy is important for your health – both physical health and emotional health, and it prevents diseases and helps to prolong your life.
Practitioners need to encourage varied diet such as fruit and vegetables, which are particularly important for good health. They also need to recognise that the more children are confident with healthy eating the more independent they would be and physically
Exercise and eating healthy are two of the most important things you need to do to take care of your body properly. Both exercise, and eating healthy, have many advantages and benefits. They help with multiple things needed throughout your life. These things include growing physically, mentally, and if you are religious, spiritually as well. All of this adds up to your body functioning in the highest and best way possible.

Teaching your kids how important a healthy diet is, will help them maintain that lifestyle in their older years. Not to mention have lower health risks, higher self-esteem and it will give them the energy they need to keep up with their eating habits and maintain their body weight.
