Of all of the problems that dishearten children today, the one that bothers them the most is being unhealthy. Five out of six students from the Manalapan Englishtown Middle School agree that there should be a change in the schools' cafeteria foods; they came up with a solution to help kids be healthy. Unhealthy foods should be eliminated in schools for many reasons. First of all, kids concentrate better when they are healthy. Being healthy helps children to concentrate better because if they are healthy in the inside and the outside, they will not have to worry about their health or how they look. Secondly, having only healthy foods in school help parents to take good care of their kids. For instance, imagine a mom that is a seventh grade teacher. She is unable to cater for her child's lunch since she needs to wake up so early to go to work. She is aware that school lunches are not healthy and she wishes that the schools could create something more nutritional. If the schools create foods that are more nutritional such as vegetables everyday with a side of fruit and some kind of main, healthy meal, she would not have to worry about her child eating unhealthy foods in school. Lastly, children's bodies are still growing which is why eating healthy is very important. Picture a young child that is growing strong and tall. That child needs types of nutrition to germinate into a healthy adult. Foods such as vegetables, fruit, and meats include plenty of nutrition. If lunches have all those types of foods included in all lunches, then all of the children are going to grow as healthy as a ripe, shining tomato. In conclusion, would children pick to eat healthy?

Data shows that nearly 60% of all middle schools in the US serve soda from vending machines. The kids will get a sugar high but then crash hours after and won’t be focusing in class but instead, falling asleep during an important lesson. One of the big reasons that children and teens are overweight is because of the foods that they eat. They are fed these fattening and unhealthy foods by the school system. While the Healthy Kids Act has a good objective, it has many flaws. Kids may eat healthy at school, but the Act has no effect on how kids eat at home. Also, even though students are required to have healthy food on their trays at school, this doesn’t mean that they will eat it all. Much of a school’s money is wasted on food that is just going to end up in the garbage.
To conclude, unhealthy foods in the cafeteria and the vending machines are the worst examples for the kids to maintain the healthy eating habits. Us Parents have to step in to make changes for our kids because in doing so would determine what kind of foods our kids are consuming. Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, advanced lunch system should be implemented.
