This can help workers in balancing career and family. For instance, small companies can give parental leaves and issue a task on part time. It is an advantage to both the company and the workers. The company will not incur more costs in employing full-time employees while on the other hand the workers will have time with their families. Although many businesses in United States are against paid leaves, career and family are part and parcel. A career is need to generate income that will be used in building a good house, providing basic needs such as clothing and food, and also for speculative need. Business should be social, friendly to its workers and therefore for better expansions and growth of any company, workers are the strongest pillar. Guaranteeing paid paternity and maternity leaves does not violates the social responsibilities of a business. In fact it motivates the workers since they bear in mind that sometimes to come they will rest. Denial of the leaves is against social responsibilities that a business should offer to its workers. Even the creator took a rest after creating the world. Who are United States and other few countries that do not guarantee maternity and paternity leaves? The aim of every company is to make profit from its day to day operations. This profits are achieved by employees who work for the company hence they are entitled to every
At what point does work life start interfering with family life to an extent that it becomes unacceptable? Is it when you don’t get to spend as much time with your family as you would like, or is it the point where you barely get to see your family due to long hours at work? Is it even possible to balance work with family life? Anne-Marie Slaughter, the author of “Why Women Still Can’t Have It All”, believes this balance is impossible to achieve in this day and age. In contrast, Richard Dorment, the author of “Why Men Still Can’t Have It All”, believes that there will never be a day when someone will have it all, certain sacrifices will always have to be made. Both of these articles are similar in the respect that they both examine balancing a demanding career with raising children. The two authors’ views on the subject differ greatly, especially regarding how gender roles have a significant impact on our society.
The Changing Dynamics of Work and Family as it relates to the topic of family dynamics, careers and their impact on the individual and family throughout the lifespan was written by Marlynn Levin, Director of The Work and Human Center, and The Merrill-Palmer Institute for Family and Human Development. The author states that in the past two decades, Americans have experience some major changes in their family dynamics and structure. The author maintains that during the lifespan many families and individuals have struggled with balancing their homes, careers, and family life. However, today employers and educational institutes are coming up with strategies to assist families and individuals with balancing their family life, education, and careers. The author also maintains that the dramatic changes of todays social, economic, and political structure of the American families has put many families and individuals in a crisis. Therefore, the author believes that the changes in our family dynamic have affected families and individuals more today than ever. For example, in the earlier days wives could stay home and raise their children, and the husbands were the sole provider for his family. However the mother did choose to work in the earlier days, there would always be someone there to baby sit the children, but the changes and down turn of todays economic has forced almost every family member to get a job. However, the author maintains that today’s social changes have provided ...
The present structure of the average family in America is changing, mainly due to the growing number of mothers who now work outside the home. The current mark of dual-earner families stands at 64 percent, making it a solid majority today. This alteration of the "traditional" structure of the family is a channel for other changes that may soon occur.

America is the one and only developed country that does not offer any paid maternity leave. Maternity leave is a period of absence from work granted to a mother before and after the birth of her child. In America this means twelve weeks of unpaid absence that guarantees her job when she returns. We are so far behind everyone that out of all of the countries around the world seven out of 196 including America do not have mandatory paid maternity leave. (Colorado public radio news) That is a sad figure, to think that we place having a family so high but don’t give the mothers the protection and security they deserve.
Stone (2007) conducted “extensive, in depth interviews with 54 women in a variety of professions-law, medicine, business, publishing, management consulting, nonprofit administration, and the like- living in major metropolitan areas across the country, half of them in their 30’s, half in their 40’s” (p. 15). Keep in mind these women Stone (2007) focuses on are “highly educated, affluent, mostly white, married women with children who had previously worked as professionals or managers whose husbands could support their being at home” (p. 14). Her findings revealed women are strongly influenced by two factors: workplace push and motherhood pull. “Many workplaces claimed to be “family friendly” and offered a variety of supports. But for women who could take advantage of them, flexible work schedules (which usually meant working part time) carried significant penalties” (Stone, 2007, p. 16). This quote represents the workplace push, where women are feeling encouraged to continue their rigorous careers with little to no family flexibility being offered from workplaces. The motherhood pull is a term used to describe the way mothers feel when they face the pressure of staying home to raise their children while still expected to maintain a steady job. “Motherhood influenced women 's decision to quit as they came to see the rhythms and

Bringing a new baby into the world is one life changing experience. The lives of both the mother and the father are changed tremendously as they begin to learn to raise a child by trial and error. Maternity leave for mothers of newborns is never disagreeable; when it comes to paternity leave, however, it becomes one of the most controversial topics of the workforce. Reasons for maternity leaves and paternity leaves are both justifiable. Men should have the opportunity to take paternity leave from their jobs so that they can be a helping hand to the mother, have a chance to bond with their newborn child, and help bridge the gap in gender equality in the workplace without the stigma and criticism. After the birth of the child, women can become emotionally and physically fatigued, so men take an important role as care giver and supporter, especially in the first few weeks. If a father has an opportunity to stay home for the first couple of weeks, to care for both the mother and his new child, it will make a big impact for the family.
There is much myth about what an ideal worker should be. Current situations and trends in the labor community are different, family working arrangements have time to place and there is always a switching characteristic to families nowadays. Since 1950, and due to World War II there was an increase of participation among mothers of young children. In current days, a great percent of married couples are in dual-income households where both the man and the woman work, and there are more working mothers than there are working
By businesses allowing fathers to take time from work this grants time for a father-child bond to form. Being open to share duties with her significant other and both planning for new responsibilities of parenthood is very important to be prepared for their new child. Having more support from their spouse is a way of allowing both parties to be a part of the child 's life as well as not putting all the responsibilities on one parent. Allowing men to have this option whether to take maternity leave or not is eliminating stereotyping among women and men. Fathers are the primary care providers in a family, with them being off for maternity leave there is no income coming in for the family. However if maternity leave is paid for both mother and father, the income will still be coming in but is decreasing the business income. Businesses would be failing because they would be paying workers that are not
Most family’s feel that both parents need to work today. Society leads one to think it is a necessity for two adults to work to survive. When the decision is being made for two adults to work does the family consider all the cost involved? Two adults working can have a huge effect on a family’s emotional, time, and finances.
It is time we stop treating child care as a side issue or a women’s issue, and treat it like the priority that it is. Paternity leave is good for women's careers. “When childcare responsibilities fall exclusively on the mother, the effect is to reduce women’s wages. Time out of the labor force deprives women of experience and promotions. When men shoulder more of the childcare burden, the effect is lessened (“The Benefits of Paternity Leave”).” Paid family leave has become an important way to signal to employees that the company is invested in them. People feel their company is committed to them in the long term. Overall, paid family leave helps keep people in the workforce after they have children. “When more workers are able to take leave, they are more likely to choose to remain in the labor market. Paid parental leave is associated with higher employment in economies around the world (Covert)”.
When the word “family” is discussed most people think of mothers, fathers, and other siblings. Some people think of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even cousins and more on the pedigree tree. Without family in people 's lives they would not be the same people that they grew up to be today and in the future. When people hear the word family they think about, the ones who will help them in any way they can whether it 's money, support, advice, or anything to help them succeed in life. Family will forever be the backbone of support. They are the ones who support their children during those life decisions. Family is not always blood related. Finally family is forever, family will never go away.
Everyone seems to define family differently, however, the significance of family is the same. For you, family means everything. You can always count on your parents and siblings for help and love. Family is very valuable and important to you and should never be taken for granted. No one can deny that family is the foundation of our generation. A family is where we all start our life journey and helps us grow to be successful throughout our lives.
