The invention of the Internet has been an absolute game changer in the world of business. We live in the information age or era of big data. So how do businesses utilize endless pages of compiled data in an effective way to make crucial business decisions? The tool used to make sense of the data businesses use is called a database. A database, to put it simply, is a structured set of data held in a computer. Databases allow us to store huge amounts of information, and they grant us access to all information almost instantly constructed well. Computer software is always evolving and getting better. It is essential that a DBA have the most updated software to make-work easier. Another part of the job is planning future storage requirements for the database system’s hardware. Since new data is always being entered, eventually you will need a bigger database, which means you will need a bigger computer to hold the data. DBAs also will have to modify the databases if a new category of information needs to be recorded. And the most important duty of a DBA is protecting the data. Security is of paramount importance for a database administrator. Hackers will go to extreme lengths to breach private information. Part of security involves controlling and monitoring use access on the database, as well as periodically backing up the database’s information and offering technical support for customers having difficulty accessing data. I have always enjoyed activates that require constant improvement like playing soccer or practicing the electric bass. I am a bit of an extravert and good communication skills are essential. After all this is a business oriented career. Also I am a coachable human being. One must be approachable in the field. That means you have to be able to take criticism and answer fellow coworkers questions. What makes this job so great is the freedom. Your workplace can be anywhere on the earth so long as you have access to Wi-Fi and a computer. The field’s projected growth is through the roof right now and the pay is fantastic. Also if you do not feel like working for someone else’s company you could always work on your own projects. Some cons are that you are dealing with the stresses of running a business. And essentially you will need to do good work. Or your company could go out of business.
