The video is broken up into two parts. In the first part of the video Stephen is being showed giving an informative speech that needs lots of improvements. He is unorganized and improperly dress. In the second part of the video the viewer see Stephen properly dressed and very organized. Each part of the video provided important information on the proper and wrong way to deliver an informative speech. I will analysis what went wrong in the first speech, and how Stephen improved in the second speech. I thought that both parts of the video were informative,
I don’t really like chiles, but because of the many benefits it gives, my point of view about chiles have changed and my connection with it builds up . The Joy of Jalapeños, an essay that demonstrates the culture, history, Burciaga’s personal involvement about the jalapeños and health benefits of the chiles, is written by Jose Antonio Burciaga, an author and Chicanismo expert. And through his own experiences, and thoughtful and careful examination of scientific evidence about the health benefits of a jalapeño, Burciaga have persuaded me into consuming more jalapeños.
One of the biggest determinants for the success of a writer is engaging and maintaining the interest of a variety of readers. While there are endless approaches to telling a story, as well as many writing styles, the most effective writings are the ones that successfully impress a diverse audience. The essays Eating Chili Peppers and Conforming to Stand Out: A Look at American Beauty are two different styles of essays that unveil a similar search for self-gratification. While the essays cover different topics and the authors use different writing styles and approaches to engage the reader, they both unveil a similar underlying message of a search for self-gratification.
Gina Valdes was born in Los Angeles, California and grew up on both sides of the U.S.A-Mexico border. Growing up on both sides of the border greatly influenced her life and her writing, since she was able to experience both traditions and customs at first hand. Crossing borders and identity are both reoccurring themes that Gina decides to interpret in her writings. The English and Spanish languages as well as both cultures weave through her life. Valdes received degrees from the English and Spanish departments at the University of California, San Diego. She has also taught both languages at various universities such as at the University of California, San Diego and San Diego State University. Gina Valdes is the author of two bilingual poetry collections Puentes y Fronteras (Bridges and Borders) and Comiendo Lumbre (Eating Fire) both are from the Bilingual Press. English con Salsa is a poem from one of her poetry collections where she uses all the techniques and themes she is best known for.
2. Who is your audience? In what context? What do you know about your audience? What approaches would appeal to your audience? What questions or doubts are they likely to have?- The audience is a classroom of young adults. The context of the speech consists of some strong wording in the beginning to get the listener's attention, including: “disgusting, shockingly poor conditions, and unstable.” The approache that appeal are the one's of basically being a rescuer as
The only con I have is that the video could have been extended. I thought the speaker appeared to be intelligent while explaining the material, and he delivered the message very well to beginners. Lastly, the important aspects in delivering a good speech is engaging with your audience, breaking down the material for better understanding, and have
Jimmy Santiago Baca’s poem “Green Chile” describes a personal experience growing up with a staple food of the Southwest tradition. In the 3 stanzas and 45 eloquent lines, Baca uses symbolism through red and green chile peppers. The red chile peppers symbolize strength and progression and are also the peppers the author prefers. On the other hand, the green chilies represent youth, which are Baca’s grandmother's favorite. Both the red and green chilies are differentiated by the flavor and taste to tell a story of Baca and his history of growing up with his grandmother.
Over the recent four months in Communication 1402 class, I have addressed three formal speechs and completed a number of chapters in the corresponding textbook “Communication Works”. This course of Communication aims to provide general information what public speaking is and how to address a public speaking. Recalling back the experience during the processes of completing the Speech to Imform, Speech to Persuade, and Group Presentation, I will draw a conclusion about this course and these three presentations in five aspects, comprising my previous perception of public speaking before this course; learning from the Speech to Inform; the goal and evaluation of Speech to Persuade; learning from the Group Presentation; the most important thing learned from this course.
Jose’s presentation appeared well-organized, therefore he showcased a simple and well thought out description of an embarrassing moment. He seemed relaxed and calm throughout his entire speech. It appeared well rehearsed and it flowed from one point to the next revealing his well-organized
He who could address this audience without a quailing sensation, has stronger nerves than I have. Don't remember ever to have appeared as a speaker before any assembly more shrinkingly, nor with greater distrust of ability, than on this day. A feeling has crept over, quite unfavorable to the exercise of limited powers of speech. The task is one which requires much previous thought and study for
She used the problem solution method of organization to set up her speech, which to me was the perfect way of doing things. She stated how skipping breakfast can be a problem and stated the effects that it can have on someone. Once all of that was said she went into various different ways of how this could be corrected and that it is essential to have a good breakfast everyday. She went into sufficient detail about the different health risks such as obesity, bad mood, and lower recognition. She spoke upon each other those individually and then said how even small breakfasts such as granola bars could drastically lower one risk to any of these symptoms. Also while she was speaking she did a great job mentioning where she got all of her different information. She mentioned different websites and studies that where done on her topic to provide credibility to the information that she was telling to the class. While she was presenting the body of her speech she was able to keep everyone’s attention the whole time just like when she was giving her introduction. This is something that is usually much harder to do in the body of the speech in comparison to the introduction. The body is much longer than the introduction so just naturally it is harder to keep the audience engaged during the speech. Gianna was able to do this because her energy was so
I have also learned about different types of audiences and speeches including persuasive, informative, entertaining and delivering special occasion speeches. It came to my attention that whenever I was making these presentations or speeches, I needed to do so with confidence, consistence and practice before the actual presentation and completely eliminate the element of panic. It was also clear that capturing the attention of the audience and engaging them in the whole process, it was necessary to have a very strong introduction and also try and use visuals to deliver the message. It was therefore vital to respect each person’s diversity and cultural values (Lucas, 2011).
When deciding which video to watch to do my essay over, I desired to write about a topic I could relate to or would provide the best advice in the long run. Out of the three videos by Alexander Street Counseling, I decided to write about " Breaking Bad News", which consisted of a situation in which a doctor had to conversate with a spouse about their partner's health and wellness. The film was very fitting considering I want to become a surgeon in the future. While watching this video I gained insight on how to apply communication techniques to break the bad news to future patients. The film was very informative in how to disclose bad news, the video portrayed lots of techniques doctors exercise and examples of how these techniques are practiced. Not to mention that the film starts out by playing out
That one event had totally changed my perspective of the future job I once dreamt of. Observing the volunteers at work, and specially the multimedia department, fascinated me the most. The video recording, the playback, the rehearsals, the lighting and the coordination had all increased my curiosity. Being there working as a volunteer made me feel like I was at home. I marveled at how the event has been organized and the way information has been presented. This event gave had created a nagging sensation in my head, an idea … My thirst for and curiosity about studying Communications has increased as I thought more about it … I...
In public speaking I learned many types of concepts, theories and terms of communication. In concepts of publicly speaking there’s, relaxation, practice, credibility, attention getters, attire, organization, volume, emotion, audience relation, and movement. In my first speech, “The any old bag speech” I quickly learned the do’s, don’ts and concepts of my speech performance.
As I began to think about how to reflect upon myself as a communicator, I realized how different this paper would have looked just two weeks ago before I began this course. Prior to this course, I viewed communication as a transfer of information, with its primary goal being to get my point across. However, as I have come to more fully understand the concept of communication as a creation of culture, I have also come to more fully understand my strengths and weaknesses as a communicator. Part of this realization, unfortunately, has lead me to my weaknesses far outweigh my strengths.
