Ever since I was a little boy, I always dreamt that I would have a corporate job. I would often imagine me wearing a brand new classy suit and going to work every day. I would have my very own office where I would work peacefully without any disturbance and a have a view of the entire city from my office balcony which would be in a very tall building. Well That’s what I had planned , until I became selected as a casting volunteer for the Doha Asian games 2006 ! That one event had totally changed my perspective of the future job I once dreamt of. Observing the volunteers at work, and specially the multimedia department, fascinated me the most. The video recording, the playback, the rehearsals, the lighting and the coordination had all increased my curiosity. Being there working as a volunteer made me feel like I was at home. I marveled at how the event has been organized and the way information has been presented. This event gave had created a nagging sensation in my head, an idea … My thirst for and curiosity about studying Communications has increased as I thought more about it … I...
This article opened up with an interesting throwback to Carr 's own experience at the interactive media convention, SXSW
The purpose of the English 250 course was to help students like myself realize the importance of all aspects of WOVE in their daily lives and future careers. In addition to writing papers, we practiced slideshow presentations, discussion panels, web design, and professional emails. The assignments and in-class activities for English 250 formed me into a skilled communicator in the WOVE areas of visual and oral communication, and I plan to continue practicing these skills through the communication that is necessary for future leadership opportunities.

I’ve always said that I’ve been at a disadvantage since birth. The meaning of disadvantaged, in this situation, doesn’t mean inferior, but more like tragically unlucky .As a child I would find myself getting into trouble more than usual due to my constant curiosity .Along with this, I was a brainwashed Gifted kid, and I was convinced my entire childhood that I would be famous. Due to large bouts of anxiety, constant questions about where I would fit in, and a obsession with being the best at everything I became who I am today.

The first thing I try to do in the morning is thank the man upstairs for my health and protection. Being in good health and eating healthy is very important to me. Growing up as a child with five other siblings, we didn’t have the latest and greatest of things. What we had was what mom and dad could afford. Unfortunately, our food choices were also limited to only what we could afford. With five children to provide for, I believe it’s safe to say that eating clean/organic was pretty much out of the question.
Everyone that have ever lived to adulthood, understand that difficulty of the transition to it from childhood. As of right now, I am in the prime of the “coming of age “transition. The overwhelming pressure of our society that forces the adolescence to assimilate the social norms is felt by many. Just as in our first steps, our first words or anything that is expected in our human milestones, coming of age is one of them. It may variety from different societies, religious responsibility or modern legal convention; everyone had to reach this point eventually.
In the end this assignment was one that was not only eye-opening, but also one that had some personal fulfillment was well. I was able to truly access my own personal usage and see not only how it compared to others but also show me that I needed to really think and question myself about if I truly need to use Media as much as I currently do. Along with this the Media silent day also showed me that we don 't need to be connected with the media for our lives to function normally and that in fact we as humans can be much more productive without it, something that I was able to experience first hand over these 5 days. What I learned about my media consumption I know I will carry with me not only throughout this year but hopefully my entire life as well.
The very first documented beauty pageant dates clear back to Paris of Troy. He had to choose between three beauties for a wife. He chose Helen, the daughter of Zeus and Leda. If there would have been titles back then like there are today then Helen would have been named Miss World. America didn’t start holding beauty pageants until the early 1920’s. They were originally a gimmick to keep tourists in town after the summer months. This was the birth of Miss America. The contest was held each year in Atlantic City and each year the number of contestants grew. The Miss America pageant was discontinued during the great depression, as the economy took a dive for the worst. The pageant came back in 1932, but there was not much interest in it. When it was found out that a 15 year old woman won the contest, she was disqualified and stripped of her title. In the late 1930’s, in an attempt to add an intellectual aspect, the beauty pageant introduced a talent competition which was mandatory for each of the contestants. The winner would receive a scholarship for college, back then this amount totaled around $5,000. In the year 1951, the beauty pageant expanded outside the borders of the United States and included contestants from other parts of the world, hence the birth of the Miss World Pageant. Shortly thereafter, the introduction of the Miss Universe Pageant was held in Long Beach, California. Then came the era of media, scholarships, and enhanced beauty for the contestants. The women were graded on the size of their hips, breasts, and waist. The women held themselves to these same guidelines. In 1961, the first child beauty pageant was held in New Jersey in an attempt to bring customers to the area. It was never thought that this w...

Everyday we encounter the media in some form. It could be waking up to the sound of the radio, or passing billboards in the streets or simply just watching television. They are a lot of different forms of media, for example, verbal or written media, visual media and aural media. Examples of media would include newspapers, magazines, film, radio, television, billboard advertisements as well as the internet. Media studies came about because of the developments in mass communication and it provokes the generation of exigent questions about what we think we know as well how we came about knowing it. There are always changes in the media and the term “media” refers to the many ways of physically forming meanings as well and carrying them. The term “media studies” on the other hand, means different courses priorities different media; different theories and different learning outcomes (Bazalgette, 2000).
A mindset somewhat defines each and every one of us. It is basically how we view everything around us, and it affects our lives in so many ways! But there are actually two different types of mindsets which are a fixed and a growth mindset. A fixed mindset is the idea that each person has a certain amount of intelligence, while a growth mindset is the belief that intelligence is a potential that can be expanded. A growth mindset is genuinely the desired mindset because a person with a fixed mindset will probably not realize what they are truly capable of. For example, someone with a fixed mindset will feel threatened when challenged and mistakes would degrade their morale, but a person with a growth mindset would view challenges as exciting
Before I had attended this module, my biggest aim was to understand how we communicate with each other and how we adapt our speech to fit the situation we are in. As I am combining Communication, Media and Culture with Film Studies, I wanted this module to help me build my confidence so that in the future, I can pitch my film ideas confidently. It was important for me to develop my communication skills as this would enable me to express myself clearly and concisely.
