One artifact that should be introduced to freshman in FBI is the book “The Leadership Challenge”. Within this book, the authors James Kouzes and Barry Posner explore “The 5 Practices of Exemplary Leadership” which derived from their extensive research. Among these five challenges, the one that should be emphasized to freshman is “Challenge the Process”. I believe that this topic could be really beneficial because of the way it can influence your everyday activities as well as your future in business. The necessity of challenging that which does not work within our business/lives, and enabling our power as knowledgeable creators to design the reality we wish to see. First of which, in order to challenge to process, you must first process the challenge. From here you will be able to “Seize the initiative,” by recognizing that challenges are difficult and persevering to follow through no matter the difficulty. With freshman learning this, they will be able to bring change to their team, whether this is in their project groups, or in their future job one day. If the freshman can be taught to take the initiative, they will be viewed by others as leaders because, leaders are ones who take action, have determination and enthusiasm to make things happen. With that, they would absorb the knowledge of upperclassmen to make their work better and or more efficient. Relating to businesses, every 2/3 innovations come from outside of the company. With listening to other teams/businesses you will be able to pick up on things that have worked well for them and things that have not, and make them your own after reflecting on what you have learned. There are several ways to define leadership, but what sets effective leaders apart from commonplace managers are their extraordinary actions and the successes that result. In The Leadership Challenge, James Kouzes and Barry Posner claim leaders that employ The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership are much more effective than those who do not (2012, p. 25). This paper will be reviewing my assessment findings, exploring my strengths and weaknesses, examining my personal-best leadership story, and detailing a specific area of development.
Leadership constantly presents challenges to the leader’s abilities. Changes occur in the organization environment, disrupting the equilibrium. The approach a leader uses to handle and manage challenges effectively, greatly determine the success of the organization (Hall and Hord, 2006). In the modern-day organizations, challenges come in the form of people and obstacles that prevent the organization from reaching its goals. Moreover, there are a lot of complexity and unpredictability. New set of skills is required for the organization to stay competitive and achieve the set goals. Hence, the life of a modern-day leader is more demanding than ever (Kouzes and Posner, 2006).
... important thing that I learned from this research project was that taking initiative represents having your own expectations and goals. A person must follow their dreams by relying on their own expectations that must be higher than those set by others. Although we gathered enough information from the research project, I believe that taking advantage of resources is essential in order to surpass the transition from high school to college. But if I could do something differently in the project, I would have encouraged my teammates to take breaks in order to be more relaxed and focused. The research project has been an immense experience that has changed my perspective in college, but mostly taught me valuable elements to become a successful freshman student.
The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership consist of five ways that anyone can follow to become a leader. The five practices are based upon extensive research and expertise. Although the five practices we have been reading about applied specifically to student leaders, anyone can follow the five steps to leadership to be an exemplary leader. The five practices include Model the Way, Inspire a Shared Vision. Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act, and Encourage the Heart.
One of the topics in organizational development today is leadership. Leadership is what individuals do to mobilize other people in organizations and communities. According to Kouzes & Posner, there are five practices and ten commitments of exemplary leadership. The five practices of exemplary leadership include: Model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart. In the Leadership Challenge, Kouzes and Posner found similar patterns and actions of leadership that created the essentials to achieve success. Utilizing the research conducted by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, I have created a leadership plan that would apply to the Admission Department at Texas Wesleyan University.
Leadership can be shown through any person in any type of situation. In a classroom discussion, on the playing field, or in public a sign of a leader is evident. A person is born a leader. Certain humans know what to do when the time calls for it. Many people in positions can be entitled a leader such as basketball players. Even a famous movie star can be given this title. These people are not true leaders. True leaders are the belaboring teachers and the intellectual speakers. These are the people who show that leadership is an action, not a position.

With so many constant changes today with different generations, legal and political circumstances and ever-changing and improving technology sources, organizations have new and recurring issues arising every single day. The reasons for these issues vary widely and develop because of so many different situations. The outcome of the situation depends on many factors including the issue at hand, the management style and the ethics of the organization to simply name a few. These outcomes can certainly make or break an organization if not handled appropriately. The issue I have found to be the most significant is leadership. Within leadership, there is the opportunity for many issues in itself.
Leadership is something that is heavily prevalent in the workforce and in the world today. Being a leader, in my opinion, takes someone (or a group of people) who is willing and able to lead a few or many people. Not every leader though is successful or leads in a positive way. There definitely exists both good and bad leadership. Many leaders fail while many achieve extraordinary milestones. But everyone, not just leaders, have their pitfalls and rough patches in life. I know that I myself have some weaknesses as a leader, and that is what I want to take some time to reflect on.
