In the book The fill in boyfriend by Kasie West, the main character, Gia, changes throughout the story due to a guy named Hayden, her friend she met when she was desperate at prom, who she begins to fall in love with.
Before Gia knew Hayden, she was living like she had something to hide, she was fake happy, and didn't love her boyfriend Bradley, who she dating at the time. As a matter of fact, Gia says many things in the book that show the way that she is feeling. For instance, on page 3 Gia states, “I watched him until he got into the car and left. My smile slipped off my face and my stomach tightened” (West 3). At this point in the book, Gia is saying goodbye to Bradley after a date, and realizing he is not the one for her. The quote Gia

states in the book shows how different she was before she met Hayden by letting the readers know she is only pretending she is happy with Bradley. This quote proves how Gia is unhappy by stating she smiled at Bradley, but as soon as he was gone, the smile disappeared from her face.
The quote is revealing how different and sad she was before she met Hayden and how the relationship is not in a good place for Gia. This quote really reveals Gia’s emotions about her boyfriend and shows how she was uncomfortable with her relationship and dating life before she met Hayden. Secondly, another quote is stated in the book that proves the statement that Gia was unhappy with Bradley before Hayden came along. On page 4, Gia states, “Logic was obviously not ruling my brain right now. Desperation was. And even though I knew desperation was not attractive, I couldn't help myself” (West 4). At this point in the book, Gia is getting tired pretending to love Bradley and she is getting extremely desperate for a real relationship. This quote also shows how Gia is unhappy and miserable with her life with Bradley by stating thats she is desperate and in dire need for a real guy, who she will truly love. The quote proves that before Hayden came along on prom night, Bradley was not satisfying her needs in a relationship. Gia stated that she was desperate, and even though she knew that was no way to find a real man, she couldn't control herself. This …show more content…
shows how before there was Hayden, she was only feeling desperation, pain, and unhappiness. To say the least, Gia was desperate for a real relationship which she did not get with Bradley, and before Hayden, she was miserable. After the breakup between Bradley and Gia, Hayden started befriending Gia and changed her life and actions enormously, making her incredibly different and way more satisfied.
Not only is this conveyed through Gia´s actions in the book, but there are several quotes throughout it that prove this as well. For instance, On page 124 Gia says, “ I closed my eyes, I was surprised to realize i really want this. Hayden was amazing to be around. He tightened one arm around my waist and his hand moved up and down my back” (West 124). At this point in the book, Gia is starting to realize the feelings she is gaining for Hayden and she is really starting to feel truly happy with spending time with him. This quote shows how Hayden has made Gia change and become happier because for the first time in a long time, Gia is enjoying spending time with a guy she likes and devoting herself into something that could become a relationship. It shows how Gia really enjoys and wants a relationship with Hayden and how her feelings about him are becoming stronger and stronger. This quote really makes her feelings shows through and really shows how happy she is by clearly stating she is no longer faking her happiness. Lastly, The strongest quote i found that shows Gia’s change because of Hayden was found on page 113. It states, “Something had changed in me and i wasn't sure what, i had smiled” (West 113). At this point in the book, Gia is stating something had changed in her by being with Hayden, and she
had simply smiled. This shows how Gia has become happier and more joyful when she befriended Hayden because when it says she smiled, it is showing how she is happy. It shows how she is being influenced and inspired by Hayden which is taking away her pain and making her a healthier, happier person. The quote is proving how being with Hayden, her old depressing feelings are fading away and she is starting to smile and enjoy the moments with someone she loves for the first time, in a long time. In conclusion, Before Hayden came into Gia’s life, she was depressed and unhappy with her relationship and didn’t truly enjoy and love being with Bradley. Yet, after she met Hayden, things changed and she finally started to become enjoyable and happy. This evidence points out that because Gia befriended Hayden and got to know who he was, the love he made her feel changed who she was completely.
In Alice Walker’s, “Everyday Use” Dee is one of the daughters of Mama. Mama also has another daughter named Maggie, but she is portrayed not as smart as her sister Dee. When they were growing up Dee used to read to her sister and Mama. She used to read to them ever when they did not want her to. That showed how she was smarter than Maggie and after that Mama started treated them differently.
This quote was found on page 13, in the introduction when Harmon Gow is explaining to the narrator who Ethan Frome is.
From this, we can conclude that Zach’s character was a rapidly changing and very confusing mess. Zach’s relationship with Cammie's was also a rapidly changing and very confusing mess. Yet these two things, once studied, brought the readers to some very important ideas - such as themes about love, and
2) What is the main conflict in the book? Is it external or internal? How is this conflict resolved throughout the course of the book?
Mania is an excessive enthusiasm or desire, typically with a negative intention, and that is what Roger Chillingworth suffered from. Throughout the novel, he goes out of his way to make the life of Arthur Dimmesdale awful. He tortures Dimmesdale from the inside out, psychologically outsmarting him at every turn. Chillingworth claims that Hester is the reason he has acted so awfully, but it is not common for others to agree with him. In The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Chillingworth’s deep desire for revenge is understandable, as he was a decent person before he found out about the affair, but then turned into a maniac in his quest to exact revenge on Dimmesdale.
I am reading The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan, and I am on page 302. This portion of the novel is about three newfound half-bloods named Jason, Piper, and Leo. This novel starts off with Jason waking up on a bus, not knowing who he is. Apparently his best friend is a guy named Leo, and he has a girlfriend named Piper. They’re all apart of the same boarding school for troubled kids. They arrive at the grand canyon, when one of their thought to be classmates turns into a storm spirit and tries to kill them, because they are half-bloods. At the time they do not know that they are. Their coach, also known as their Teacher, is actually a Satyr that tries to defend the kids. Jason eliminates the storm spirits with his golden sword, even though he was
Media makes celebrities seem as if they live life facing no problems or hardships. In reality, they do not live a perfect life, but that characteristic of celebrities' life tends to go unseen. In Charles Dickens’s, A Tale of Two Cities, Dickens develops Mr. Lorry into a character where business engulfes his life. Mr. Lorry continually tries to suppress his emotions using many different strategies. Even though business is always Mr. Lorry’s top priority, he always has a special place in his heart for the people he cares about, the Manette’s. Through the use of characterization and dialogue, Charles Dickens uses Mr. Lorry to promote how humanity overrides one’s business side no matter how hard they try to suppress it.
Connie is only concerned about her physical appearance. She can be described as being narcissistic because "she had a quick, nervous giggling habit of craning her neck to glance into mirror or checking other people's faces to make sure her own was all right" (Oates 148). Connie wants her life to be different from everyone else's in her family. She thinks because she is prettier, she is entitled to much more. She wants to live the "perfect life" in which she finds the right boy, marries him, and lives happily ever after. This expectation is nothing less than impossible because she has not experienced love or anything like it. She has only been subjected to a fantasy world where everything is seemingly perfect. This is illustrated in the story when Connie is thinking about her previous encounters with boys: "Connie sat with her eyes closed in the sun, dreaming and dazed with the warmth about her as if this were a kind of love, the caresses of love, and her mind slipped over onto thoughts of the boy she had been with the night before and how nice he had been, how gentle, the way it was in movies and promised in songs" (151).
The first aspect of Willy's character that affected his failure was his pride. Willy's pride caused him to in many situations make very poor and unethical decisions, that affected both himself and his family. An example of this is through the conversation between Willy and Charley “CHARLEY: ‘You want a job?’ WILLY: ‘I got a job, I told you that. [After a slight pause] What the hell are you offering me a job for?’ CHARLEY: ‘Don’t get insulted.’ WILLY: Don’t insult me.”(DOAS: pg x) Willy does not take the offer which is an obvious example of a poor decision. He makes this decision because he sees this generous whole hearted gesture as a kind of pitiful handout that his pride restricts him from taking. By not taking this handout willy puts his self pride infront of
Connie was tired of the life she was living and, she was ready to make decisions for herself and to deal with the consequences for them. She knew that if her parents found out about her going to the diner that she would be in trouble. Connie did not care about the consequences for her actions. She felt like it was time to grow up and be a woman. She wanted to start to experiment with her sexuality. Connie wanted boys to start to notice her and talk to her. Connie thinks that guys could be her savior by helping deliver her from the pressure and anxieties from her sister and mother. Her going out on her own makes her realize that she does not have to please anyone, only herself. When Connie and her friend went to the diner she met this guy Arnold. Obviously being with Eddie for three hours in a dark alley and diner was not the best first move for her. This is the one decision that will change her life forever. This was probably the first guy that gave Connie some attention. So obviously she is going to soak him up and just...
Connie’s clothes and infatuation with her own beauty symbolize her lack of maturity or knowing her true self, which in the end enables her to be manipulated by Arnold Friend. Connie was enamored with her own beauty; in the beginning of the story Oates states that Connie “knew

(#4) The British naturalist and politician John Lubbock wrote, “Your character will be what you yourself choose to make it.” Do we choose our own character traits, or is our character formed by influences beyond our control? In other words, Character is the qualities that vary in individuals.Childrens character is the most concerned these days. Adults believe that character in a child is usually developed depending of how the child was raised during childhood however, rising 9th graders, believe that they can self mold themselves a character through finding friends and making mistakes in high school. What many people fail to realize is that it all varies on the child.
In my fourth and final meeting for book club, my group and I have read the whole novel of Shattered. And when our roles were shared, I learned new things about the novel such as why the novel is called Shattered as well as a connection between the main character Ian to myself. To begin, I obtained knowledge of the reason to why the novel has the name Shattered. Evidence to support from the novel is when Jacques says “You see those shards of glass? He said, pointing to the jagged pieces of the bottle on the ground. Do you think you can put them together again? Do you think anything or anybody could ever make it whole again? Well, do you? It’s not just broken, it’s shattered into a million pieces and it can never be put back together again. Never.
