Many students in schools have the ability to use their cell phone in class. But many students have admitted using their cell phones to cheat in class. 78% of teens from ages 12 to 17, that increases their time of using it in class. Although cell phones aren't allowed in some schools, I think they should be banned with the schools that do allow them. Cell phones should not be allowed in school, but their are important rules to it. Some schools allow cell phones, they should be banned because it can get distracting, people may use it to cheat, and some kids can be left out. One reason to ban cell phones is that teens can use cell phones to cheat on tests. Many teens can admit that they have cheated on tests and even more can admit that they used their cellphones to do so. About ⅓ of teens have had used their cellphones in school to cheat. Most of this should be a wakeup call for parents and teachers to take away the teens phones the day of a test. About ¼ of students also use electronics to take notes. This can also be any easy way to cheat on a test. In other words, when cellphones have more advanced technology, ⅔ of teens have admitted to cheating on tests. After most school districts have seen teens cheat on tests with their cellphones and computers, schools now take on cheat …show more content…
Many teens in school do allow cellphones in class, but the real problem is that it can get distracting, and it can also cause many problems if the student is not paying attention in class and getting distracted from their phone. Kids could also feel much more tempted to cheat on tests by letting their school allowed cellphones in class. Kids could also be sending test answers over text messages to other classmates. Schools should ban students from carrying cell phones during classes. Cell phones can be a major distraction and impair student learning. Cell phones also give students more opportunities to cheat and
There is more than one side to the debate about the use of cell phones in school. One claim is that cell phones should not be allowed in schools at all. Cell phones are a distraction and and they interfere with education (Lee). Rather than using them only for emergencies, students generally use them for entertainment purposes (Lee). Nowadays, cell phones can be used to email, text, call, and take pictures (Lee). Some students have trained themselves to text without looking at their phone, which makes it harder for teachers to catch them (Lee). Cell phones can also be a safety liability for schools (Lee). In the case of a bomb threat, cell phones can be used to not only call in the threat, but can also be used to detonate a bomb (Lee). In another
Picture this, there has been a school lockdown, the suspect cut the landlines so no one could call the police for a rescue. However, the suspect was captured by the police much faster than he imagined. The last scene wouldn’t have happened if it was one decade ago, because cell phones were not popular in schools then. When it comes to cell phones, some people think they should not be permitted in schools, and other people think they should be permitted in schools. I agree with the latter opinion for the following reasons: Cell phones are an efficient way to communicate when emergencies occur in school; cell phones can be a great tool for learning during school hours; and the current prohibitive rules on cell phones are merely fruitless efforts. Cell phones should be permitted in schools, because they could be very beneficial and practical in schools.
Schools should allow cell phones in schools for children's protection and safety. Secondly, cell phones can keep you connected with your buddies. Instead of screaming, and yelling in the halls to ask your buddy for books, you can simply call them on your cell phone. Some students ask themselves, "If teachers are allowed to use cell phones in class?"... ...
In school many kids have use of cell phones but teachers don't allow them because they're to distracting I think teachers focus too much on the negatives and pay no attention to the positives. Most schools allow students to have cell phones for safety a reaction to the Littleton, Colorado, high school shooting incident of 1999. Apart from emergency situations, most schools don't officially allow students to use cell phones during class time. However, when the teacher is busy helping out another student or writing on the board, out come the phones as students send instant messages to friends, listen to music, or watch videos on the Internet. Although cell phones may cause disruptions and increase cheating they should be aloud in school because they can be used as reminders, to look up words they don't know, and it provides an increased sense of safety.
Electronic devices, particularly cellular phones have become a mainstay in our society. Cell phones and other forms of hand-held digital technology have made their way into the classroom and has become a common accessory among high school and middle school students. By the time a student is in middle school, it is likely that they already own a cell phone and carry it with them wherever they go (Lucking, Edwin & Mervyn, 2010). As the technological capabilities of these hand held devices increase and the upsurge of their popularity continues, educators race to establish protocol for their use at school (Charles, 2012). These policies range from very loose guidelines to zero tolerance. As educators seek to meet the needs of their students, it is important to consider the advantages and disadvantages of these technological devices when establishing acceptable use policies that provide access, while eliminating distractions during instruction.
Ever since incidents such as 9/11 and Columbine, high schools have started implementing new rules regarding cellphones. Cellphones regard the attention of building managers, teachers, parents, and students. Although teachers see them as a distraction and a way to cheat, they can be quite helpful to students. School districts should permit students to use cellular devices in school for purposes of improving their education and providing themselves a sense of security.
Another reason that cell phones should be allowed in school is that computers can do most everything a phone can do “when most schools provide computers with internet access to their students, students can send text messages to cell phones from an e-mail account, and most cell phones function like computers with web browsing” (George and Cook). When schools put a ban to phones students are not allowed to contact a parent until after school, “that included students who are calling for a ride home after they finished a test before the usual time school ended” (George and Cook). A bad on cell phone use can also put a strain on the relationship between students and their teachers, as teachers have to enforce the rules. However, though some believe cell phone use should be allowed, the counter claim to that is “Phones should be banned in school”.
Cell phones should not be allowed in school because children focus more on the phone than schoolwork, it creates more drama, and it promotes cheating. Cell phones should not be allowed in schools because kids are always wondering what their friends are doing and what is happening outside of school. If they have access to their phones all day, then they will be glued to them. Phones are more entertaining than a teacher lecturing at the front of the class. Most students will start to zone out, or fall asleep, when a teacher starts a lesson.
Another concern is that cell phones can be used to cheat on exams and quizzes. This issue can be solved easily, in order to prohibit students from cheating, teachers can collect cell phones before a quiz or an exam. Students will try to cheat whether or not cell phones are allowed in schools, so there is no reason to use cheating as an excuse to not allow cell phones in schools. Also, by allowing cell phones in school, students will learn how to keep cell phone use appropriate. Meg Ormiston explains in her article, “How to Use Cell Phones as Learning Tools”, that teachers should “Let them teach us about how to reduce the fear of theft or inappropriate use.” and that “Every student should be reminded every day about appropriate technology use, and what to do if the rules are broken.”
Cell phones have only been in the picture for a short amount of time compared to how long people have been going to school but cell phones are everywhere now and make it difficult for schools to come up with what to do. As many believe they are a distraction and can be used for cheating and other negative stuff. There are also people that are highly in favor of having cellphones as they can be helpful with all the tools they provide and people who are not and it 's all about who makes a better argument. Cell phones used to just have communication abilities but that is far gone now you have the abilities to use apps and different functions that fit nicely into a school environment. Cell phones should be allowed in the classroom as cell phones provide positive benefits and are a helpful tool in learning.
According to Patricia Greenfield “A US college did an experiment; half of the students in the class where allowed to use their electronic devices, while others had to keep theirs shut. The students that were allowed to use their electronic devices had lower test scores than the other half of students. ”(Carr) This evidence shows that cell phones are not helping students in school. Students cannot be using their phones for tests or else they will not get good grades.
Now since the schools let kids bring them, students always find was too sneak onto them without being noticed. There are plenty of reasons why kids should not be able to use phones in school. One of these reasons is because so many people use phones for cheating. There are plenty of ways that students can find to cheat on their cell phones. One way is by googling an answer to whatever you are working on like a test or homework.
Given the unquestionable results regarding the use of cell phones by students in school there should not be a ban on the cell phones in schools. This is because students can learn to enhance their learning from the technology such as the cell phone. Students will also become more independent in their work and more motivated to learn. Students like being permitted to making their own choices.
The first reason to support that mobile phones should be banned in schools is that devices can be used to cheating for instance, text friends about answers during a test, take picture of test questions with mobile phones to send to friends, search the internet to answers during a test, and store information on mobile phones to look at during a test. It is suggested by Benenson Strategy Group (2008) indicated that 65 per c...
Many schools are now making new rules or guidelines to improve the educational impact that school has on students. One of these new rules or guidelines is a ban on cell phones during school hours. This new guideline upsets many students that use cell phones because they feel that it takes away their freedom. It is a privilege, not a right, that those students even have cell phones, and they are abusing their privilege tremendously. This new guideline is a superior guideline to follow, and in the long run, students will realize how this ban affected their learning experience. Cell phones should be ultimately banned for a number of reasons. Cell phones are a distraction to other students, it is a major distraction to the student with the cell phone, and there are phones in the school that students can use whenever they need.
