This was the day of my big game, the day where we had to win this lacrosse game. If we didn’t win this game, we would get knocked out of the playoffs. If we didn’t beat Dedham, our season would be over. I woke up and got dressed for the game, I put on my shorts, gathered all my equipment, and made a game plan for the big game. I thought to myself, “I need to play the best game of my life and never quit.” I went downstairs and heard a car honking outside. I went to the door, put on my cleats, and went outside. My friend George and I got out of the car and put on our equipment, and went to start practicing. I was the goalie so of course I have the biggest responsibility on the field. I knew I had to step up and make a lot of saves. The horn blew and the game started, Dedham won the face off and is running down the field at a faster pace than I was used to. They shot the ball! I couldn’t move my stick quick enough to save it, so I threw my body in front of it and got hit right in the shoulder. It hurt a lot, but what I hadn’t realized was that it hit my shoulder and reflected ten feet away from the net where my player caught it and ran down the field and scored. The other team didn’t know what hit them. It was the half now and the score was three to nothing in our favor. Our couch told us that we needed to keep up the good work. We took the field in the second half. We won the face off this time. We went down the field, shot the ball, and the goalie saved it. He threw the ball up to his forward right in front of me, and I stepped up and hit the kid to prevent him from getting the pass and scoring. When I hit him, he fell straight to the ground and I couldn’t see where the ball was. It bounced and went in the net. I was so embarrassed at that point. The next face Dedham won it. The kid shot the ball immediately, but I saved it. The one thing my coach always said to me was, “to use the element of surprise; they would never expect you to leave the net.
I had eaten great all day and I was ready for hell. I got there and didn’t realize there were 100 kid trying out for 2 teams. Mikey and I started off by doing line drills and I wasn’t the best but I was doing what coach had asked everyone to do. I was the only one giving it 110%. Then long field passes were next. Again this was all new to me and I was just going with it. Thirty minutes into practice I felt a bump on my shoulder. It was coach Haven. He asked me, “Hey La Garsssa how long have you been playing lacrosse for? I responded with “oh you know 30mi…. he was shocked and wasn’t ready for the response. I did have great ball handling skills and I was working my ass
As more of my teammates began to show up, I recognized most of them. However, I learned later that if I went on to play in the Spring, this would not be the same exact team I would play with. With only twenty minutes until we began,I put on all of my gear and my dad gave me a thorough warm up. Time seemed to fly by, and before I knew it, everyone was gathered together as positions were being assigned. I was originally overwhelmed with excitement, but as the game drew closer, the joy I had felt was replaced with anxiety. The lacrosse game taking place before ours ended and we entered and took our place on our bench. I recognized the opposing team’s jerseys quickly and identified them as a travel team from our area. Taking one final breath, I rushed into the lacrosse net enjoying my bird’s eye view, unsure of what was to
...slapshot from the point. Two minutes later the puck broke loose from one of the other team's defensman and landed on our most talented player’s stick. He is not only as fast as lightning but can also stick handle around any NHL team blindfolded. He made a quick move to the left, and then to the right. He took the shot which went top shelf on the right side. The second I saw the net move I knew we had done it. The underdog team defeated the 1st ranked team in the state championship game for Missouri high school hockey. An uproar from the mob of people could have been heard from two miles away. I couldn’t believe we had done it. We beat the odds, and took the cup. I felt shivers travel down my bruised and cut body. The hard work did pay off, for we had done it. The tears were flowing like the water dropping from the Niagara Falls. We were State Champions.
It was once a game in our hands and now rested in the hands of a striped uniform. While the play was being reviewed, there was a commercial break. The sweat, that used to be clamming up my palms quickly spread to my forehead and the rest of my body; and the cold house suddenly felt like a hot summer’s day. Though it was only seconds, it felt like years. After an incredible catch, and certainly at the best time, I could not grasp the fact that there was a possibility the play would be reversed. The game returned from the commercial and the Ref called out the final ruling. The words that left his mouth were like nails on a chalk board to my ears, the remote fell to floor, as I was in total
In the episodes “The Big Game” and “Revelations” (Season 2, Episode 14-15) of Criminal Minds (Netflix), a delusional serial killer named Tobias Hankel murders people because he believes that they committed a sin. With the addictiveness to the drug and killing his father, Tobias’s mind split into three personalities. His own, his father, and Raphael, an archangel.
We had won the game! I ran off the field satisfied with my performance, that caused my team to win to first game of the season. I then quickly grabbed my stuff and went to find my mom. As I approached her she said loudly, “great job!” And that made me a lot happier than I already was. I was most proud of myself when the other team scored, and I just pushed through like a train. That taught me a good lesson, to push through no matter what. A famous quote to go along with that lesson is: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” -Wayne
Riley, our starting quarterback, placed his hands on the helmet of the right tackle, as he did every play. He called the play looking straight into my eyes signaling the pass was coming to me. My entire body tingled with excitement as I ran to the left of the field. I could feel my cleats dig into the soft, freshly cut field as I took my stance. I looked up into the sky seeing only white lights which created the stage for the football field. As I brought my head down slowly to see the white eyes of the defender across from me, my heart beat slowed and I was still, in peace for the short moment. The quarterback hiked the ball and I began in pursuit; shifting, juking to get away from my defender. We were side-by-side running down the field as the ball was thrown into the air, coming strait to me. I jumped up and became airborne, snagging it from the lit up, night sky. Falling back with the ball secured into my arms, I felt my defenders full weight push into my left leg. A snap rang out as we hit the ground together and I looked down to see a large bump sticking straight left out of my
It was a hot Saturday morning in April and it was turning into a perfect day for baseball. I was hitting lead off for our team, which means first in the batting order. I was the first one to see this pitcher and most of the time the leadoff man can set the tone of the game with his at bat. We had all watched the pitcher warm up, like we always do, and felt like he was “hittable.” The pitcher began his motion and threw the first pitch. It flew by me and popped the catcher’s glove as I thought “Dang, this guy is throwing gas.” “Strike one!” yelled the Umpire. The pitcher was throwing a little bit faster than I had expected, and I was not prepared on the first pitch to hit what he was throwing. At that moment, I thought about my morning prior
We killed Clare 7-0 was a easy game. Next game is vs Mt Pleasant, we were ready for this game. Whistle blows the game is under way. All of us were running around like cheetahs on a open field. We score the Musa scores the first goal about 20 minutes in. They score about 10 minutes later 1-1. The half is winding down Joe shots and the goalie blocks it and I clean it up 2-1.The whistle blows half time. We want to win my coach says, “We're going to go defence.” We all agree. The whistle blows 2nd half starts. We’re taking a lot of shots on net were missing. They finally score from a chip over Haydan 2-2. One minute left we have the ball Joe shots from beyond the 18 yard line. The goalie makes an amazing save but Owen quick as lightning comes in and shots and scores!!!! Were all excited and run to Owen and celebrate. 30
I dreaded the time that we got the ball back. I didn’t have to wait long. As I ran out on the field, many of my teammates assured me that I’d be okay, but my own thoughts seemed to overtake their confidence in me. Hands shaking, I received the first snap.
My team was trailing by a touchdown the whole game, but Shane, who was on my team, made a pick six to tie the game with five minutes left of recess. All we had to do was stop the other team from scoring and then get the ball back and score. That was easier said in done though. The other team was forcing their way down the field and all hope appeared lost, but then out of nowhere the other team fumbled the ball on a fake hand-off. In the midst of all the chaos to get the ball I saw my team come out with the ball. Now the game was tied and we had the ball, but there was only enough time for one more play and we were in the other teams redzone. I remember asking Mrs.Shafer for a little extra time so we could come up with a play and she allowed
The play was "Red 334"which is a run to our halfback, me, out of our dive series. I crouched over the ball as I jetted past the quarterback and ran the play so we could observe the changes we needed to make. I let out a sigh of relief because we were finished with the most dreaded part of practice; well, only until someone complained about not knowing their job on one of our pass plays. Coach Nelson undoubtedly decided we needed to run through the final pass play before we perfected our defense. The play was quietly called in the huddle with intentions of getting it right. I ran the play through my mind while I tried to remember what the snap count was and what I was supposed to do for that play. The ball was snapped and I jolted to the left of our team's quarterback to set up his backside protection. Out of my peripheral vision, I noticed the defensive end raging toward the quarterback. I intensely stepped into him while lowering my body and exploded through his shoulder pads sending him stumbling into the line's pass protection.
We got to the soccer complex, and there must have been fifty different teams of all ages there. I kept looking for my team in red and white. Then I found them on the other side of the complex. They were getting ready for the game, and then I saw the other team. They looked huge. I thought they were about five years older than me. At that point I was not so confident about us winning anymore. How were we ever going to win against them? The game was going to start in a couple of minutes so I stretched, but I couldn't stop thinking that we would get beaten 10-0. Now it was time for the game to start. My coach told me where I would be starting, so I went and lined up with the rest of my team on the pitch. The
The other team won the face of they came rushing down at me and they shoot and i caught the puck in my glove so the face off was in are end. They won the face off again and they shot hit off my chest so they got the rebound and went for the wrap around and i did the splits to save and i got it. My Grandpa,Mom,Dad,Sister and grandma were all cheering they were so happy so was i my team cheered also.
It was November 1st and it was the day of my last volleyball game. I ran into my friend Eri and we started talking about the game later that day. It was against Tunkhannock. They were the best volleyball team from our area, and wouldn’t you know it on our senior night we had to play against them. Senior night was the one night where the seniors were recognized, whether they were good or not. The whole day the team was joking about how much we would lose by against our rival team. In a game to fifteen we thought we would end up owing them points.
