The media plays a major role in the way society views sports today. As time has evolved sports have become apart of the American culture. The does not only influence the sport at hand but it also affects the way that societies sees the athletes. Most believe that since athletes are paid outrageous amounts of money they are considered to be role models to younger generations. The way that the athlete lives his or her life heavily influences the way the media will portray them.

Media coverage can also serve as a learning technique for professional players of the leagues as it can help their performance for the next game. The media does keep you informed about news you normally wouldn’t know about until the game has started such as if a player will play or not. This also affects your fantasy teams. From a business standpoint the media delivers far more then anyone could have imagined, which is valuable when it comes to whom they are sponsoring.
The downfall of the influence that the media has on sports is that they can be bias toward situation that may arise in the sports world. There can also be too much or not enough sports coverage on at time when society needs them. Athletes often feel that they receive too much attention and can’t live their lives. A prime example is Seattle Seahawk running back Marshawn Lynch, who has publicly voiced his frustration with the media, even going as far as answering every question asked with “I’m just here, so I wont get fined” twenty-five times during Super Bowl media

Societies will want more of an inside look as to what their favorite player or team is looking to do. As Athletes inspire societies like no one has ever seen before. When society watches people do things that they wouldn’t have the strength, stamina, agility, themselves. We also feel a huge desire to do the things that we can do well even better.
