Today most students use their cell phone in school. In the teenage world a cellphone is almost always essential in everyday life. But is school really the right place for this handheld device? Students seem to be distracted by the urge to get on social media in the classroom instead of doing what’s right in the classroom, actually learning. Distractions and safety issues are the reason cell phones should not be used in schools.
Cell Phones are a distraction to most students and this damages the education process. The number one issue students get distracted with would have to be texting. This leads on to what the law is really trying to say. They state that “The public use of cell phones is a privilege, not a right. Governments, communities, and businesses should be free to regulate their use, especially in situations where cell phones constitute a physical risk or significant disruption to those nearby”. Most students claim they are texting their parents most of the time. Parents don’t realize they are taking away their child’s future by distracting them from their studies. Children follow in an older person’s footsteps so it is the parents job to set an example for their child. Some parents don’t understand that once a student picks up their phone that it will be hard for them to put it down. Communication with parents should be done outside of school hours if parents absolutely need to talk to their child they could simply call the front office and ask politely. Now a days cell phones aren’t quite so safe. The media is a dangerous playground, For example cell phones are the main use for cyberbullying. It is very easy to take pictures of someone and publish it on sites such as facebook, instagram or twitter. Cyberbullying is performed by teens so therefore most of this happens inside a school related environment. Bullying can lead to far more serious actions such as suicide. Bully Suicides states that:
“A 14-year-old, who leapt to his death last week, left a suicide note detailing the abuse
