Using a cell phone can help people to focus a lot better through texting and listening to music. For example, most people focus by drowning out distractions through music while they work. It helps them to understand what they’re learning at a faster rate. Texting helps because it can help the students to better understand the lesson they are learning through their friends at a quieter rate. In my opinion, cell phones can help when students don’t understand a specific topic through listening to music. Have you ever heard of the gruesome Columbine High School massacre? This incident occurred on April 20th 1999 and involved two students embarking on a shooting rampage, killing twelve students, a teacher and wounding twenty three others. Unfortunately during this incident, the school's most easily accessible phone was on the other side of the school in the library. Perhaps some of these lives could have been saved if the students in this class had cell phones that they could've used to contact the authorities more quickly. The issue we are addressing today is the use of cellular devices in educational facilities. Firstly, cell phones are a useful object when needed in an emergency. When parents need to contact their kids, they would have access to talk with them on their cell phones. People say "But there's phones in the office", So? What if office staff are out for lunch? What if the emergency happens at their parent’s work place? So, what would they do? Go out and look for them? Cell phones are very useful in that situation! If an emergency happens how would their kids know when to turn their phones on? So, a good comprise would be to turn on your phone and set it on vibrate. Schools should allow cell phones in school for children's protection and safety.
There has always been controversy as to teens not being able to concentrate and focus because of texting and cell phone use. Visiting any U.S high school can show the lack of concentration and focus of students caused by using their phones. I’m also a high school student, I can see some of my classmates use it for texting every day in class instead of listening to the teacher.
