Teaching Philosophy
Ralph W. Tyler, an influential figure in early twentieth century educational reform believed that “the purpose of life was learning.” He said, “When one ceases to learn, one ceases to live life to the fullest. The biological basis of man has changed little since the cave days. However, each generation creates new ideas and elaborates on those ideas which have previously existed.” With education, ideals set forth from a society or culture can be preserved and create a powerful generativity of knowledge, linking the past with the present while ensuring future posterity.
One must not only understand the knowledge of the past and see the events of the present, but must also seek a common link between themselves and the future. Knowledge will provide the connection, as each idea is a part of another and therefore a part of another time. The ideas of the past with generate the ideas of the future and through this knowledge man will live forever.
The culture of American society is based on democratic principles that embrace individuality and personal freedom. To be part of this, one must first understand their place within that society and see themselves as an integral part of it. Therefore, the American educational systems should provide youthful minds with a base of knowledge from which beliefs, opinions, and orientations can be formed. The development of students who value themselves as a not only a part of their society but see themselves as a part of a larger cause will aid in the promotion democracy and preserve the integrity of its ideals. Instruction should be designed in a manner that promotes the fundamentals of education emphasizing an eclectic methodology that embraces the individual...

... thought, elevates interest, and therefore creates a desire to learn will eliminate possible disciplinary problems. With desire discipline becomes unnecessary. A mutual bond of respect and utility will naturally form between teacher and student. The instructor will provide wanted knowledge to an eager and respectful student.
As a teacher one can only hope to merit the respect of their students and in consequence further their unquenchable desire for knowledge. Instructors must provide a secure learning environment that fosters the development or reinforcement of positive self-concepts and intellectual development. The acquisition of skills and knowledge transmitted from teacher to student will aid in the formation of individuals capable of making valuable contributions to their present society while furthering the progression of knowledge for the future.
Between 1939 and 1945, more than seventy medical research projects and medical experiments were conducted at Auschwitz and Dachau. (Auschwitz Medical Experimentation). Over two hundred doctors participated in such research projects and experiments, sentencing between 70,000 and 100,000 people, held against their will, to death through experimentation. These were mostly Jews, but also gypsies, homosexuals and other minorities. They were thought to be inferior to the human race. Such practices became widely accepted and embraced by the Germans, due to the Nazis propaganda. The experiments conducted were diverse, but could be categorized in three classes.
Education has always been in existence in one form or another. As each child is born into this world regardless of who or where they are born, life lessons immediately begin. He/she will learn to crawl, walk, and talk by the example and encouragement of others. Although these lessons are basic in the beginning they evolve as the child grows. However, the core learning method of a child does not change. Learning from others, they will watch, listen, and then act for themselves. Thomas Jefferson believed that an education would lead men and women to the ability to be self-governed and become positive contributors to society (Mondale & Patton, 2001). Today, we can see how true this is by the examples of others. Those that are given the opportunity for education are more likely to find jobs and develop skills that not only improve a community, but influence the economic growth of their nation (Ravitch, Cortese, West, Carmichael, Andere, & Munson, 2009, p. 13). On the other hand, if an education is not provided to individuals, they can become a hindrance to that nation’s growth.
At around 800 BC, a young man named Lycurgus was in line for the throne of Sparta, but due to some complications, he did not become king. However, the Spartan people loved him and wanted him to help their nation. As the king was his nephew, he became in some way the king’s advisor, yet he had a great deal more impact and control over the Spartans than the king himself. He wanted his nation to be a strong nation, and he wanted them to rely on themselves rather than another country. Bit by bit, he shaped Sparta into a nation like no other of
Teachers help us expand and open our mind by giving us skills throughout students’ early life to help students when they are older. By learning information from teachers, students become better people, in a couple of ways. Besides inquiring knowledge from their teachers, students learn to work with one another, open their mind to other peoples’ thoughts and ideas, respect one another, and learn different techniques for life’s issues.
The purpose of this study was to summarize the key issues faced by the Treadway Tire Company and to analyze any mistakes made by Ashley in the identification of the problem. There is a sense of urgency in understanding the problem from the different viewpoints of leadership and the line foremen position under study. The data collection will be the key to understanding the problem and will uncover reoccurring themes that can be addressed immediately. When the leadership of companies fails to look beyond what is to what could be, the company as a whole suffers and is not living up to its full potential. At Treadway, its leadership will have to look beyond where they currently are to see what a great company they can be by acknowledging its problems and taking steps to correct them.
It is my strong belief that each child is entitled to a safe, secure, stimulating and caring learning environment. I always believed that each child is a unique individual with much curiosity and many academic, social and emotional needs. Children need our support in order to mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. As a teacher, one should aim to help students in fulfilling their dreams to become successful and educated individuals. We must provide them with a safe learning environment for their learning to succeed.
In order to escape her wrath, Lycurgus traveled around the Medatrerian, learning about different governments. Throughout his travels, he knew that one day he would return to Sparta. The Spartan people were begging him to come back. The gap between the common people and the kings had gotten worse and there was inequality within the common people as well. Even the kings were not against him coming back. Finally, he did. He took what he learned from the places he visited and made the perfect government. The basis of the government was to create equality and a strong
In WW2 German physicians often conducted painful and deadly experiments on Thousands of jews. Dr. Josef Mengele, nicknamed the angel of death and the other Nazi doctors at the death camps tortured men, women and children and did medical
From this public, there was a subsection of people who did even worse things; human experimentation on the people in the concentration camps. While many of these people were doctors, and thus expected to be of high moral value, Hitler was able to fundamentally change their moral base. He convinced these folks, that experimenting would let them cure diseases and help them make the Aryan race even stronger. The Nazi’s also listed “medical science as an instrument of aggressive military power” . The experimentation they did would help the German army become stronger and win the war; since they could not fight on the front lines, these scientists put all their effort into doing human experiments because they had strong national pride and wanted to make sure Germany won. That is why they justified freezing people to death in cold water. They wanted to
Of course, most of these experiments happened in concentration camps. Most of the experiments ended with the victims either developing tuberculosis or dying after the experiments were done. This means most of the experiments had to deal with the lungs and a temperature change in the body. In addition, they were most likely put in ice cold water and held there until the doctors got what they needed. "...victims of tuberculosis medical experiments...immersed in icy water..."(Memorial Museum). Equally important, some experiments even consisted of putting dirt and bacteria into a person's body! This was to figure out how they can help the soldiers who were getting infections heal, so using people they didn't care about for the research was the best thing they could do in their eyes. Sadly, most of these victims died before any of the camps were
From the moment I began attending school, I was set free. I learned something new every day that allowed me to discover the true meaning behind life and freedom. My teachers advocated knowledge and accelerated learning. They acknowledged my interest in learning and focusing on academics. This recognition led to challenging me in all aspects of my academic experience. Some students would back down from this challenge, but I looked at it as an opportunity. It was an opportunity to become an empowered individual in society. It is important to be educated in order to benefit future generations. If no one empowers the youth of our society, what will the world become? Since I have received a liberating education, I want the future generations to as
Education serves as the foundation to a lifetime of learning. Since every child is unique, I believe that it is important for them to learn in an environment that is both secure and stimulating. By creating this type of atmosphere, the students will be able to realize their intelligence and use it constructively. As a future educator, it will be my goal to establish a classroom that is, 1) non-authoritarian, 2) student-centered, and 3) focused around student experience. These three elements are part of Progressivism, the educational philosophy I plan to incorporate in my classroom.
Solon was the first to greatly influence the government of Athenian society. In the 6th century BCE, social tensions arose and Athens was shrinking. Many citizens were reduced to sharecroppers and some had sold their own lives into slavery to compensate for their debts. In order to remedy the situation, Athens appointed Solon as a magistrate to serve as a mediator and a lawgiver in 594 BCE. As many citizens converted themselves to slavery to work for the rich landowners, Solon decided this needed to change, but compensate for the rich as well. The man once said, “Rich people without wisdom and learning are but sheep with golden fleeces.” Solon blatantly said that rich people without education are just useless, with money. With this quote, Solon cancelled most of the debts and freed the Athenians who had been enslaved, but refused to redistribute property or deprive the aristocracy of most political power. This allowed both, the debt-struck citizens, and the powerful landlords to be content with the situation. As Solon helped the people, he was fundamentally aristocratic. When Solon ent...
Education is a very important aspect of our lives. It is our education that makes us who we are and determines what we become. Therefore, education is not something to be taken lightly. As a teacher, my goal will be to provide the best possible education for my students. Every student is unique. I must see students for who they are individually and respect their ideas and opinions. Each student has a different learning style. I must take this into consideration because I want to provide a constructive learning opportunity for every student. I believe that every student has the potential to learn.
Education is a very important aspect of the lives of all people all over the world. What we learn, not just in the classroom, shapes who we are. We take our education everywhere we go. We use it when talking to our buddies about sports or music, we use it while solving a math problem, we use our education while debating with our family whether or not we should watch TV or go to the movies. Our education is the foundation of who we are, since every decision we make and every thought we think is dependent on what we know. Imagine how different the world would be if everyone craved learning to such a degree that at lunch tables all over the world the topic of conversation isn't who likes who, or how drunk someone got over the weekend, but it would be what books were read over the weekend, and what new ideas were thought of. This crave for learning would be an ideal but still suggests need for improvement with the current educational system. It seems that the problem with education is that somewhere along the lines the human race forgot (assuming they, at one point, understood how valuable information is) that learning is not just a mandatory process, but also an opportunity to transcend and open the gateway to a better understanding.
