Writing my Target Application Package was beneficial because it enabled me to really think about what the organization I am seeking to intern for wanted in an ideal candidate. Instead of simply reiterating what was posted on the job posting when composing my cover-letter and resume, I was able to truly analyze the job requirements, along with the organization’s mission and goals. By paying attention to the organization’s buzzwords as well as skills they were seeking in an ideal candidate, I was able to effectively incorporate it into my resume and cover-letter. The section I enjoyed writing the must in this assignment was the “day in the life”. I thought the day in the life section was not too difficult because most of the information I needed to include in this section was found on the internship posting. The posting provided me with …show more content…
information regarding the responsibilities of the intern and skills and personality traits that a prospective candidate should possess. Although the internship posting discussed certain skills set and experiences the intern need, it was my responsibility to discuss why these skills and experiences were important to the organization. Because I am a Health major and am truly interested in nutrition and fitness, I was naturally drawn to the organization’s vision of providing youth and young adults with the self-efficacy needed to strive to life a healthy lifestyle. My interest in this topic as well as prior experience in the field enabled me to understand why it was important to have the requirements stated in the internship posting. Another section of the Target Application Package that I thought wasn’t challenging was composing my resume.
I have applied for several jobs and internship positions in the past and am thus familiar with tailoring my resume to fit the need of the organization. Because I am involved both on and off campus, I had sufficient content to include in my resume. However, one aspect of writing my resume that did pose as a challenge was the formatting of it. I had it ingrained in my mind that the length of my resume had to be one page. Because of this, I altered the margins, spacing, and deleted some relevant volunteer experiences to ensure my resume was exactly one page. After speaking with Professor Ross concerning my resume format, I comprehended the importance of having sufficient white space. I was also informed that my resume can indeed be more than one pages, especially since I needed to add bullets to some of my experiences to ensure that the formatting remained the same throughout the entire document. This information allowed me to edit my resume so that the content, format, and style all contributed to the easy read of this
document. Composing my cover-letter was a task that was a bit more taxing than other parts of the Target Application Package. Although I am well familiar with writing this document, I had difficulties with deciding what information to include and what to omit. I also tend to struggle with getting straight to the point when I am writing. Because of this, I had to do multiple edits on my cover-letter so that it was only one pages. I sought to take out more information out of my cover-letter because it still appeared lengthy, but was unsuccessful. However, by using my audience and position analysis, I was able to compose a well written cover-letter. What I like most about this assignment is it is very applicable to the real world. Whenever I am applying for an internship or job I will most likely be required to submit a resume and cover-letter. Knowing how to truly analyze and interpret what an organization is seeking for in an ideal candidate will strengthen my chances of being selected for the position.
My favorite assignment is the Industry Profile Report. This assignment allow myself to browse through companies that maybe one day I will be working for and see what jobs are open. I really appreciate this assignment.
The employment goal must relate to the students interests, course of study, and transition assessments.
Internships provide students with opportunities to apply theoretical and basic knowledge gained in the classroom. During the field placement period, the agency supervisor becomes the primary teacher, aside from the clients, in the student's day-to-day learning. The supervisor is responsible for coordinates the student's overall experience by helping the student integrate the various pieces of the Field Internship. However, to make the placement, a positive experience supervisor need to be aware of student’s strengths, and learning needs to match assignments accordingly.
Facing the hard fact of caring for your parents while trying to manage other things in your life or take on a $7,000-$8,000 bill per month. Seems to be a theme I’m seeing more and more as I continue my internship. It really shows me how important it is to hope for the best, but plan for the worst. I’m sure you could never be prepared for everything, but having those difficult conversations before your parents are too ill to explain their wishes might save a lot of heartache and hard decisions for the rest of the family in the
The educational narrative was one of the most difficult assignments for me this year. I spent more time thinking of what to write than I spent actually writing the essay. In the end I made up an fake story to write about
Section 1: What is your topic, and why is it important to study this topic?
I have learned many things throughout the course of the term, including such things as: how to write an essay and how to improve on essays that I have already written, how to locate and composite better research through the use of numerous resources found at the campus library, the internet, and the “Common Sense” textbook, how to cite research, examples, and quotations properly within the contents of my research paper as well as document it accurately according to MLA standards. Through the exploration of the “Subjects and Strategies” textbook, I have learned nine different methods used when writing an effective essay and how the different writing styles affect the overall theme and tone of the essay when used properly. This past semester, I have encountered many difficulties when trying to write these essays, but through the use of the textbooks, the aide of the instructor, and once I was able to classify the different types of essays and styles, I found them possible to overcome.
...al work. I was told how the data entry sheets will be made, and later how we will all put this data on the computer in the archival program, Past Perfect. I was told about terminology for archiving data, and how I will always be working in a group of two minimum when archiving data. We shall start archiving data the week after next. Also, I received a past perfect training disk, so I may learn the program better on my own. I am supposed to be a major resource in this program to the rest of the Society members, so I must learn everything about it to be a minor expert. Therefore from this internship I have already gained important historian skills.
When we were first given this assignment I had not put much consideration into it. I thought we were to ask a couple of questions, it would all work itself out and I would be done. But this was not the case. The thought and reflection put into interview questions really surprised me. There was far more factors other than the questions you were asking, because you were also dealing with people, people who are giving you there free time, their attention and opening themselves up to you a stranger, so there were far more responsibilities then what were initially at hand.

The last the two semesters allotted for our thesis completion were filled with memories that had elicited in me varied emotions as I went through them. There were times of frustration, helplessness, and even sheer joy. Also, one thing that I am certain of my experiences in this last two semesters is of their success in teaching me several lessons that I could definitely make use for my future endeavors in life.
She glanced around the silent room, looking at each new and tired face with curiosity and eagerness. “Got it?” she placed her hands on her hips and quickly tiptoed to the front of the room with an even bigger smile than before, pausing once more before she shouted out, “Okay, good! Now write me 2,000 words on the most important thing in your life!!” Suddenly the room felt even more silent and still before it did. The tired eyes of every senior in the room grew wide at the sight of the first curveball senior year had thrown. I remember this moment when my teacher, Mrs. Manhiem, gave us a huge assignment within 5 minutes of our first day senior year, and although I was not thrilled about the timing, the actual assignment its self was intriguing. After days of deep thought, I soon realized that I had four important things to write about. I wrote about my mother and how she is my everything. I wrote about my amazing father, who is the most incredible man I know, and how he makes my world go round. I wrote about how I could not live without my two older brothers because I wouldn’t be who I am today without my biggest role models, supporters, and my two very best friends. The earliest memories I have
The resume that I typed up about myself and career viewpoint was accurate and also useful for the future. It helped me establish my strengths in the major that I am going to pursue. It also showed me that my job experience and community service reflects on the career that I am I am taking up. This cover letter that followed showed me that being professional can bring in different opportunities.
My placement essay was such a distant memory, that I did not even know what to look for and where to find the old assignment. Being so comfortable in my position of being a student at Montclair State, it seems as if I had forgotten the steps taken to be in this state. I can remember the pressure felt with dealing with the task of expressing myself in a brief essay. My struggle was explaining the person from my past and who had become at that point in my life. When thinking of my life, I thought it possessed so many experiences and character with depth that it was impossible to smash it into one essay. Yet, I was able to learn that it doesn’t matter how much you say and what you say, but it matters how you say it.
