The resume that I typed up about myself and career viewpoint was accurate and also useful for the future. It helped me establish my strengths in the major that I am going to pursue. It also showed me that my job experience and community service reflects on the career that I am I am taking up. This cover letter that followed showed me that being professional can bring in different opportunities. The summary assignment involved me looking for an article online that captured my attention. The Origin of a Movement was very accurate to what was going on in society today dealing with my race. I choose this article to reflect upon and summarize. Inside the paragraphs, I cited where I got my information from in the article. I also included properly
For my Project Learning Summary I chose to focus on two people and one movement that I believe have a strong impact on society today. Each of the topics has had an influence during their respective eras, and each proved that their work has gone onto make changes in the world as we see it today. I first looked at Darwin, for his work on natural selection and the significance it has had on science and religion. I then took another look at Booker T. Washington, and how his stance on integration of African Americans into a “white” society was at the end of slavery and what his efforts have done since. Lastly, I looked at the Feminist Movement and the efforts that were taken for improving equality as a whole in society.
This goal represents a writers ability to adapt to different areas of writing so I chose an essay where I was meant to write from the perspective that the essay was on a book review website. The purpose of the essay was to provide a summary of the book Neuromancer and describe how we reacted to it. Instead of writing a completely academic paper, this essay represents that even in an informal environment I am still capable of producing academic quality text. Such as, while it was unnecessary to quote the book I was still able to embed the information into my own argument and sentence without changing the flow of the paper using the quote giving Gibson’s description of Neuromancer eyes as “eggs of unstable crystals, vibrating with the frequency whose name was the rain and the sound of trains, suddenly sprouting a forest of hair-fine glass spines.” While the quote is quite lengthy and can easily control the flow of the sentence I was able to weave it into my own sentence. Instead of shortening the quote in order to make this challenge easier I decided to use the full sentence so that the effect of description can fully affect the audience. This represents the fact that I am capable of writing in different scenarios, and to different audiences, while maintaining my academic merit within my papers. The Critique of Neuromancer Book review helped to present my understanding of the first course outcome through my academic tone in a non-academic
1. Your paper could have been stronger had you used more quotes. Each time you make a specific point concerning the novel, you should back up your point by using a specific quote from that novel. That way your readers have proof that your point is valid.
Firstly, I plan to explore how race has influenced my life. My mother is of Hispanic, and Irish decent whereas my father is of African decent. One of my earliest experiences with racism came from my mother’s side of the family. My grandmother would often say awful things about my dad to my brother and me when we visited and my parents were not around. She never hid how she felt about my parent’s relationship from us. My grandmother was opposed to my mother’s relationship with my father solely because he was, according to her, a “nigger” and of a different ethnic background and was not good enough for her daughter and that my mother was bringing shame to the family. My grandmother never accepted us whole-heartedly as her grandchildren compared to how she treated our other cousins simply because of their race and their complexion because they looked more like her side of the family than we did.
I talked about a lot about race, ethnicity, and the different movies we watched in this paper. I believe that continuing on in this class will help myself get a better understanding of different races and cultures, which will make me more knowledgeable in the future and better me in the long run. I cannot wait to see what we are going to learn about in the weeks to come!
Topic Sentence: While music was an impact on the Civil Rights Movement, Motown Records is what gave Blacks the confidence to succeed in the only voice they had.
We are fortunate enough to have resources at Forsyth Tech such as computers and software. Its best to take advantage of those resources if we don’t have access to them anywhere else. There is no excuse to not completing the work. We were required to have two text book present in each class to use throughout the semester. Skwire, David and Harvey S. Wiener’s A Writer’s Reference with exercises and writing in the disciplines, references MLA, good word choices, different sentence styles and many other helpful tools to write an outstanding
... documents I researched how employers evaluate the structure of a resume. I determined that they want less fluff and straight forward attributes about myself. When writing a resume it is important to include relevant job experience. Also, to incorporate all skills that would make you look enticing for an employer. During this process I contacted former employers, and intern coordinators to ask if they would be willing to let me use them as references. I wanted to make sure that I still keep in touch with previous employers because I want to make sure they put in a good word if a future employer were to contact them. I have learned through this experience that it is important to keep bonds strong, and make sure to keep a resume clean and organized.
(3) Why your research is important and how it contributes to the field of African and African American Studies/Literature.
1. What is the topic? Be as specific as you can as you summarize the issue, but don’t forget about style. Being logical does not mean that you cannot showcase a sophisticated prose style. In this response, tell us what the book is about, major characters, events, and more. Remember, you are establishing your ethos right here.
Your paper could have been stronger if you had used quotes to back up your ideas.
In this essay, I attempted to combine two sources and analyze them each by itself first and then combine it at the end. I think I did a good job analyzing and interpreting what Ellen DeGeneres was saying in her article. This essay was more difficult than the other essays for me because it is hard to apply the examples and try to combine two different sources to make a compare and contrast paper make sense.
As a reader, my mind was most affected, not by the struggle of the civil rights movement, but by the determination of the editors to assist in putting an end to segregation in the United States. This changed my mind about some of what I was taught about the civil rights movement and how big of an impact it had on not just African Americans, but everyone as a whole.
It was about using 3 sources to illuminate a particular aspect of my chosen play and to investigate some of the context of the work and to integrate the sources along with interpretation to address questions that arise in my reading of the work. My chosen play was “The Things They Carried” by Tim O 'Brien. First of of I had to come up with a question and I had to come up with a thesis that will answer the question. Before getting a review from the peer my thesis was this, “So, it can be argued that Lieutenant Jimmy Cross 's love for Martha was either a mistake or beneficial during the Vietnam war.” (Paper 3-Page 1) "Your thesis "So, it can be argued that Lieutenant Jimmy Cross 's love for Martha was either a mistake or beneficial during the Vietnam war" need to revise. You don 't need to mention argued in thesis, just need to prove it.”(Peer Review 3-Islam) I realized my peer was right, I had to write a thesis that will make the reader find out what the thesis is, I do not need to literary mention “this is the thesis”. After I change my thesis something like this, “While Jimmy Cross 's love for Martha brought his respite for the war and ultimately proved to be harmful to him, his men and his ability to be an effective leader.” This thesis seems more like stronger and arguments. Then I had to choose three secondary sources as an evidence. The part I struggled the most was finding the
Finally, here I am typing this assignment on the first floor of the library finishing this paper so I’m able to continue onto my college and career journey. I’ve learned so many thing in just the past couple years that’s helped with other situations in my life and I will carry them to help me along with things through the rest of my life; like multitasking, highlighting the important facts, summarizing, communicating, to not be so self conscious, and finally to be successful in pursuing my dreams and going to UNLV and becoming a criminal profiler.
