T.S. Eliot understood the trouble of many artists when he wrote, "Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal; bad poets deface what they take, and good poets make it into something better, or at least something different" (Eliot, T., 1996, July). It is apparent this statement is addressing concerns of suspected plagiarism when T.S. Eliot compared the works of several authors. An early record of plagiarism goes back to about 80 AD when the poet Martial addresses a suspected plagiarist named Fidentinus for reciting Martial's works as his own. Fidentinus may have lost the good faith of his listeners if Martial communicated the alleged fraud abroad. The impact of plagiarism reaches beyond theft of literary works and loss of credence.

Too often, the value of language is diminished by deceptive authors meeting unobtainable requirements. The impact is lost confidence by stake holders.
