Plagiarism Among College Students: Source Analysis

From the rise of social media and the convenience of internet accessible devices on campuses in the U.S. and nations alike to this country, plagiarism has made things harder for both students and staff. Although I understand the struggles of being a student in an academic environment up to a point, I do not find any form of ill ethic submissions concerning assignments or projects to be tolerable. The purpose for this piece is to explain the relationship between college students and academic ethic degradation in the past 15 years connected to how and why students do it. Professionals state that studies to define plagiarism are difficult to obtain with a clear conclusion (Risquez; Vandehey, Diekhoff, and Labeff 2007). In context to this phrase used in source two it indicates that the subjective nature of the topic is inconsistent for students and staff. Guidelines on campuses are usually in a gray area which is not usually a black and white type of deal for a lot of cases as it is bewildering to many in their studies. Wood shows how plagiaristic behaviors occur when saying that students’ experiences with web-based sources changes their attitude on authorship. The views of academic honesty when it comes to cheating varies from the point of view between the institution and the student. Thoughts on plagiarism may even be that students do not find it as a form of theft which can have punishable outcomes. Ordinarily as a part of learning for an individual to be educated on a subject they must attain that knowledge or experience, but cheating prevents them to put forth that effort to make original work. Through the process of using unoriginal content the individual is prohibiting their self growth and critical thinking skills in the subject.
Undergraduates that attend college cheat by using internet sources without using format necessary. The goals of the college mindset for most is to have an end result to move onto more interesting topics. Technology can affect the choices of anyone in an academic environment whether it is to cheat, steal information, or the relationship between staff and student body.
