Research Paper on Student Ethics College level students use their phones, tablets, laptops, and other smart devices to cheat in classrooms to get a better grade than if they had tried to do the work themselves.There are many changes that can be made in order to decrease the academic dishonesty rate in college students who use technology in the classroom to commit these crimes. These changes include: restricting cell phone usage during tests, changing course material to make cheating more difficult, and encouraging students to join study groups to learn the material and not be tempted to cheat. The consensus was that students who had cheated had either used the internet or other students’ coursework. Most students in this era have access to some form of technology with either camera capabilities or internet accessibility. Usually it is at either at a moment’s notice or already at their fingertips and easily able to be hidden, so as to not get caught.

The increase in academic dishonesty has sparked an inquiry in many administrators and educators and inspired many to investigate students in order to uncover the reasoning as to why they cheat. Regina L. Garza Mitchell is an expert on this topic and she has discovered that one of the reasons is that students think they can cheat is because of a lack of teacher. There is very little face-to-face interaction to the point of only two days per week. With no supervision, most students generally tend to disassociate the coursework as classwork and forget that it is still punishable by law. This also contributes to the fact that students will use other’s work more consistently and familiarize it as a method of work and not as a reprehensible
