I. Situational Analysis
a. Internal Environment
Currently I am employed as a police officer for the City of Arlington, Texas. I work as a patrol officer answering calls for service and patrolling certain areas in the northern part of Arlington. I am also working towards obtaining a Master’s in Business Administration from Texas Woman’s University and have an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Arlington in Architecture. I have a wide range of experience due to my varying degrees and work experiences giving me a much broader base of knowledge. These individuals would expect me to provide a solid knowledge base of laws, general orders (departmental policies), and case law as well as provide examples of how to handle different situations. They would also expect me to demonstrate how I have shown leadership among my peers either through examples from the past or scenario testing through the promotional process. If being offered this promotion I would be expected to work in any supervisor capacity whether it be back on patrol or in a detective role which could all lead to working any hour of the day as well as on call in the case of detectives. These would not be flexible requirements as they are basic requirements for the nature of the job. I have a strong knowledge base for the job that I work and have a past of being in supervisor roles, although not in this field. The knowledge I learned from supervising employees before can assist me in supervising within this field. The knowledge and constant striving to learn more has always been a strength of mine. I never feel that I can learn enough and use that to my advantage as I seek out classes and continuing education to provide myself with as much knowledge as possible. I also have an innate ability to speak with people and communicate clearly in order to get information needed for investigations or build relationships with those in the community that can assist with preventing crime and locating individuals of interest. This served me well on the job while working the same area regularly in order to build long lasting relationships with community members.
