Summertime
It was early dawn on a Friday morning, as the sun rises from the distant blue ocean we wait for daylight to breakout. My friend and I sat down on spot on the beach, as I focus closely at the surface of the waterfront the sand is very white, much like the winter snowflakes. As I look along the different points along the shore, the waves and ripple's of the salty water crash upon various sections of the beach. These include a nudist section, a gay section, and a family section, I wasn't sure but there might have been a section reserved for nude, gay families.
My friend and I unfolded our garden chairs and opened our cooler box in the family section of the beach. After putting on our sunglasses and lay on the sun block lotion, we popped open some cold beverages from a can. We ...
Secondly, the customary health beliefs of the aboriginal populace are interrelated with numerous characteristics of their customs such as kinship obligations, land policies, and religion (Boulton-Lewis, Pillay, Wilss, & Lewis, 2002). The socio-medical structure of health beliefs, which the aboriginal people...
The story of Summer, by David Updike, is set during that idyllic time in life when responsibility is the last word on anyone's mind. And yet, as with all human affairs, responsibility is an ever-present and ever-necessary aspect to life. What happens when the protagonist, Homer, loses his awareness of a certain personal responsibility to maintain self-control? Homer's actions increasingly make him act foolishly, internally and externally. Also, how does Homer return to a sense of sanity and responsibility? To a degree, I would say that he does.
In my 9th grade class at Point Loma High School, we were given questions about stereotypes from our teacher to interview two students. Each of us then interviewed one to two students at our school and then imputed the data into a google form. Afterwards we looked at the summary of the data in charts and got a better idea of who we interviewed, the things associated with, and where they felt the most affected by stereotype threats. Then we sorted the summary data chart by race and gender to see either similarities or differences in each race or gender group.
All the novels that I have read in class this year have been absolutely fascinating and remarkable. Each one captivated me in an indescribable way. However, there is a particular novel that stood out to me. It is a novel that is highly enjoyable and I recommend it to anyone looking for a poetic and simple book to read. That novel is One Crazy Summer by the distinguished author of books for children and teens, Rita Williams-Garcia.
0.8% of the overall Federal health expenditure in 2009 which was spent on Aboriginal health. The overall wellbeing of an individual is more than just being free from disease. It is about their social, emotional, spiritual, physiological as well as the physical prosperity. Indigenous health issues are all around us, but we don’t recognise because it doesn’t affect us, but this issue is a concern to Indigenous Australia and also to modern day Catholics in Australia The statistics relating to Indigenous health is inexcusable, life expectancy is at an all time low, higher hospilatisation for avoidable diseases, alerting rates of deaths from diabetes and kidney disease. This issue is bigger than we all think, for example 13% of Indigenous homes
The colonisation of Australia occurred throughout 1788-1990. During this time, Great Britain discovered Australia and decided that it would become a new British colony (“Australian History: Colonisation 17-88-1990”, 2014.). It was decided that convicts would be sent to Australia and used for labour to build the new colony. There are many health determinants that are effecting the health of Indigenous Australians including; poor living conditions, risk behaviours and low socioeconomic status. Many of these determinants have an effect on the Indigenous Australians due to the colonisation of Australia.
According to Australian indigenous website, healthinfoNet, in 2010-2012 life expectancy of indigenous people were 69 years which is 11 years less than the 80 years expected for the non- indigenous men and women. Moreover, the life expectancy for native women was 73 years, during 2010-2012, which is 9.5 years less than the expectation of 83 years for non-Indigenous women. The reason for decreased health can be due to deficiencies in water supply, sanitation and lack of proper medical services.
The cool water felt very refreshing on a warm spring day; however, anything over 50 degrees felt warm to our family who had traveled from the icy Idaho weather. My dad and we five kids waded out to where the water reached my belly button. My mom stayed on the beach. Those of us in the water splashed each other, at moments sucking in some of the salt water. To me, it tasted as if someone had poured gallons of table
Although it has been years since our most recent visit to the shore side of Ocean City, New Jersey, the memories and senses never abandon my mind. All I can recall is the wondrous combination of the scorching heat, the grainy sand in between my toes, and the overwhelming smell of salt and delicious foods . . . I feel as if I am standing right there right now! Who could ever relinquish the beauty of the shore, the healing the shore accomplishes, and the tastes of the wondrous foods?
Racism and social disadvantage being the by-products of Australian colonisation have become reality for Aboriginal people from the early beginnings as well as being prevalent to this day. There exists a complex and strong association between racism and Aboriginal poor health, assisting in the undermining of the emotional and social wellbeing of this Indigenous group. Racism has an adverse and insidious effect upon the psychological and physical health of the Aboriginal people, as it gnaws away on the mental state of the individual, having detrimental consequence upon the standard of acceptable health in today 's modern society. The effects of this discrimination become the catalyst towards the undermining of one 's self esteem which leads to detrimental stress levels, self-negativity and having the potential
There are many disparities when looking at the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in comparison to the Australian population, as Indigenous Australians equal to about 2.5% of Australians population this is viewed as a major gap Disparities are very evident with regards to lower life expectancy and inequalities in health status, these disparities stem from high rates of behavioural risk factors and socio-economic status. These factors can influence their high rates of chronic diseases compared to non- Indigenous Australians.Cardiovascular disease is a major burden among Indigenous Australians and in data from 2002 was classified as one of the top leading causes of mortality among the Indigenous community, making up to 27% of all deaths in Indigenous (Australians Australian Institute of Health and Welfare 2008, p. ix). Age of onset was not clear as it can occur at any age, however it was developed at an earlier age among Indigenous Australians with risk increasing as they got older (see Appendix B) (Australians Australian Institute of Health and Welfare 2008, p.14). The gender distribution shows that in both Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians there was a greater number of Cardiovascular disease in women, this disparity was mainly due to the higher number of rheumatic heart disease and heart failure in females (Australians
We got there right after the sun’s peak time ended, so around 3pm, and my breath was taken away by it’s beauty. The sand is so soft, it feels like a fuzzy blanket on a cold fall day. When I walked on the beach I could faintly smell the of salt. As I would walk into the water, I could feel my skin tighten as the salt water would touch my skin. Then, as I got out of the water, I could taste the salt lingering on my lips.
I awoke to the sun piercing through the screen of my tent while stretching my arms out wide to nudge my friend Alicia to wake up. “Finally!” I said to Alicia, the countdown is over. As I unzip the screen door and we climb out of our tent, I’m embraced with the aroma of campfire burritos that Alicia’s mom Nancy was preparing for us on her gargantuan skillet. While we wait for our breakfast to be finished, me and Alicia, as we do every morning, head to the front convenient store for our morning french vanilla cappuccino. On our walk back to the campsite we always take a short stroll along the lake shore to admire the incandescent sun as it shines over the gleaming dark blue water. This has become a tradition that we do every morning together

My favorite season of the year is summer because of the warm weather, the school vacation, and the endless fun. I really enjoy the warm weather because it’s the perfect atmosphere to do outdoor activities. My favorite part about summer has to be the fact that school is closed for two months. During summer, you’re free to do whatever you want, not worrying about curfew or waking up early for school. Summer time is a great time to relax with friends and family by soaking up the sun at a beach or simply having dinner together.
