It is the process of setting goals, and then and then accomplishing them. “The four elements to motivation are personal drive to improve, commitment to goals that you set, initiative for opportunity readiness, and being optimistic when pursuing your goals. Some advantages for self-motivation are being well organized, having good time management skills, and having more self-esteem and confidence in yourself.” (Skills You Need, 2001-2017).

Resiliency refers to having the ability to bounce back from a bad occurrence. I disagree slightly with this result, and think it should be higher. Before working for the state, I used to work for a doctor. I think I mentioned in a post earlier in this class that I didn’t get along well with the office manager, who was the doctor’s wife. On my 20th birthday I had a bad car accident, and I couldn’t work because I had back and neck problems. I was the only other person who worked in the office with her; without me there, she was doing everything herself. This resulted with me getting fired from that job while being disabled (a blessing in disguise for me). As soon as I healed, and could work again, I quickly found another job. Imagine a man who was recently laid off from his job at an oil and gas company and can no longer financially support his family. The decision this man makes to either push through this adversity to find a new job or let his life go in a downwards spiral will be determined by if the man is resilient or not. There are many benefits for pursuing a college degree. Motivation is best defined as the needs, wants, and beliefs that drive an individual. It is the basis of what people work for and keeps them doing things they otherwise would never do. People act in a whole new manner when they are motivated by something. Motivation gives them a whole new perception of the task at hand. Motivation is not always positive though, and it does not always just come from one place, for example, your boss. Motivation can be negative by not receiving something, and contrary to popular belief it is not always money that motivates people to do what they do. People have different needs, wants, and desires and the finding what is most important to those individuals is the key to motivation. People and companies have used countless techniques and approaches to motivate others and employees, but what works for one person does not necessarily work for the other.
Human beings are very complex creatures and becoming even more complicated now-a-days. The needs and requirements of man in modern society are constantly changing and increasing as well. When these needs are not fulfilled, people become dissatisfied. In this situation, dissatisfaction is unlikely to contribute to any constructive purposes. This is the reason why motivation has been one of the widely researched topics in organizational psychology (Spector, 1997).
