Does kids playing outside have a direct correlation to creativity and self-motivation?
When I was in sixth grade, the Commodore 64 computer was popular. This around was the year 1986. I was a wiz at playing computer games and re-programming existing games to modify them to my liking. I would spend hours in my room playing on the computer. I had talent that someday could translate to a lot of money working at a high profile computer company in Manhattan. My dad had other ideas. My family had just moved from Stony Brook to Ronkonkoma, so I had no friends in the neighborhood. One day my dad came in to my room and said to me, “What are you a hermit? Staying in your room all day is no good. Enough is enough. Go outside and play.” I had to make friends. Luckily, I met Marc at my bus stop. We are still good friends to this date. Marc likes

There was an exchange student from France the year before that looked like me and he was not very nice. Soon after that, Marc introduced me to all of his friends and the rest was history. I continued to play on the computer but I learned to use the computer in moderation. I was definitely ahead of my time with computers and that experience made me realize at an early age that playing on the computer, using electronics and watching television for a long period of time is not good for the body and mind. A good balance is needed. The saying I tell my students is do things in moderation. If you are doing something for an extended period of time, do something else and change it up. I really do believe playing outside will help kids be better students and they will learn how to develop a creative mind. I am not very happy how technology has taken over and exploded. Smartphones, iPads, and iPods along with Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat have changed the students’ ability to learn for the worse. So it comes down to two
In our society human beings play many different roles in life. There are so many different people and each person has their own personality. When a baby born, the baby doesn’t know anything, and slowly he started to learn and family, parents, culture, society, institutions are huge resources behind his development of being himself. The article by Ryan and Deci (2000)… discussed about self-determination theory, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Self-determination theory represents a broad framework for human motivation and personality. Intrinsic motivation refers to engage in a behavior that gives internal rewards. Extrinsic behavior is driven by external rewards. In this paper I am going to discuss some of my personal experiences and real
Theories of Motivation What is the motivation for this? According to the text, motivation is defined as a set of factors that activate, direct, and maintain behavior, usually toward a certain goal. Motivation is the energy that makes us do things; this is a result of our individual needs being satisfied so that we have inspiration to complete the mission. These needs vary from person to person as everybody has their individual needs to motivate themselves.
The author believes that goals and desires require an individual to be motivated to move from one state of being to the next. This motivation encompasses the emotional, cognitive, social, and biological drives that trigger behavior (Maslow, 1943). Accordingly, the word motivation befalls the frequently used description of why an individual achieves a goal, and the term motivation originates from the Latin root movere, which means “to move.” Therefore, motivation stands as the state that “moves” an individual to act in a particular way. For instance, when one is lying on the beach on a warm summer day and begins to feel hot, the physical need to cool down might cause one to stand up, go to the water for a dip. If the heat remains too over-bearing,
Throughout history, motivation has been one of the components to survival. Motivation is needed to get up in the morning and go on about the day in order to survive. As humans began to evolve, so did society, which meant our drive and motivation were derived from different goals rather than one common one. Rather than depending on biological drive, humans started to depend on the system of rewarding the good behavior and punishing the bad. This operating is known as Motivation 2.0 (Pink, 2009). However, this method is flawed due to the fact that this implies that humans are no different from a herd of livestock.

Though many people see the negatives in playing video games there are positives. A recently published meta-analysis by Uttal in 2013 concluded that the spatial skills improvements that resulted from playing video games that incorporated elements of shooting have the equivalence of the effects of high school and university-level courses targeted at improving these same skills. With that benefit could some high school level courses be altered? How will this change the classroom atmosphere? Even with games such as Sims 3 the players must build a “virtual” life for themselves from the ground up. Essentially the avatar or virtual character has to socialize, learn new skills to obtain a job and acquire a better home along with finding a husband, wife, and friends and have possible kids. Even though this is a virtual world it still builds on social skills as well as becoming a common interest to kids outside the game (helps build actual friendships). According to a study done by Adachi and Willoughby in 2013 it showed that the more kids that played games such as the Sims i.e. (role- playing games) the more improvements the children had in problem s...
Thinking back on my childhood, I first remember all the times I played outside in my backyard. I would pretend to dig up dinosaur bones or create imaginary realms of ancient lands; there I would perform diplomatic services for the people in need. I was usually alone, and those are some of my fondest memories. When I first decided to become a teacher and thought about what is important to my philosophy on how children learn, I immediately knew I was a strong believer in play. Although, many decision makers such as legislators and school district leaders believe in more academic types of learning styles, my paper will discuss why play is so powerful and important to children.
Early childhood teachers often say that “play is a child’s work” while some parents ask ‘Did my child just play all day?’” (Rice 1). Many people do not realise how important play is and what role it plays in the development of their children. Teachers provide opportunities for children to have spontaneous, unstructured child-initiated play experiences by providing stimulating materials to “enhance and entice children into play” (Rice 2). These materials include loose parts and are open-ended and spark creativity by providing children opportunities to think, plan, and carry out their play (Rice 2). Limited learning may take place if teachers do not make play easier and maximize the benefits (Rice 2). Teacher support is also a necessary component
What is play? Play is defined as engaging in activates for enjoyment & recreation rather than a serious practical purpose. Playing is a disorganized voluntary spontaneous activity, which may include objects, one’s body, symbol usage, and relationships. Play is flexible, individualize, grouped, motivating, self-directed, open-ended, or self-directed. (Smith, 2013) (Saskatchewan Ministry of Education, 2010)
According to Greenberg (1999) motivation is defined "as a process of arousing, directing and maintaining behaviour towards a goal." Where directing' refers to the selection of a particular behaviour; and maintenance' refers to the inclination to behave with consistency in that manner until the desired outcome is met.
The topic I am going to being doing for my project at my placement at Camperdown nursery is the benefits of outdoor play. There are seven benefits of outdoor play for children, they are learning, creativity, health, social skills, wellbeing and independence. Outdoor play encourages children to go outside and get fresh air and burn off some energy, it can improve their physical development. This relates to my placement as the children get the opportunity to go outside and run about as much as possible on a daily basis.
Motivation is defined as an inner drive that encourages action or feeling towards a desired goal. It is moving forward and not staying static. A person’s efforts are energized, directed and sustained towards achieving their goal. It is a basic desire which begins with a physiological or psychological need which triggers a behaviour that is aimed at a goal or incentive. For example hunger motivates the need for food. Desires and goals are the inherent strength that drives us to move, take action or plan to achieve. The processes that give behaviour strength and purpose are needs, cognitions, emotions and external events. Reeve (5th Edition).
Motivation is the process of getting someone to act on a particular situation. According to (Adelhardt, S, K. 2015, December 2) lack of motivation in the workplace is the most problematic subject for all managers, because it leads to decreasing productivity, performance and yet it increases the chances of employee resignation. Many employers suppose that managers these days are struggling to motivate their employees due to lack of significantly vital experience as well as knowledge in the employee engagement developing process. One of the successful strategies that managers can use to increase employee inspiration is by offering an attractive remuneration and benefits to their employees. Remuneration and benefits such as an extrinsic bonus
learning. For example, in secondary school, students are required to finish the “Other Learning Experiences” programs. It aims to expand students’ learning contexts instead of simply learning in the classroom. While some school hold more outdoor activities as they agree that outdoor activities is beneficial for students, others reject it and continue to use the traditional classroom teaching. This essay examines both sides of for and against arguments of having more outdoor learning activities.
In many schools across the nation, adventure education and outdoor sports are very important. These different types of curriculum provide benefits that many other curriculum does not provide, as well as a basic knowledge for outdoor activities and living. Not only will outdoor sports and adventure education get kids moving but it will also help kids become more aware of the world around them and can learn activities that are used on a daily basis outside. With the many different types of these activities, there are hundreds of different things that can be done in a physical education classroom. There is not just one curriculum to follow, but instead there are many different sports that can all give different life lessons and work different parts of the student's bodies. Outdoor sports and adventure education is a curriculum that all teachers should incorporate in all different grade levels.
