My Motivation One of the many opportunities we have in the United States today is access to an education. I believe that being educated by teachers is very important. There are many benefits for pursuing a college degree. A few valuable advantages of higher education are African-Americans (and other minorities), like me, are able to be educated, job security, and a great salary. When I was growing up, my mom always let my siblings and I know the importance of education. For example, if I did not know the meaning of a word, my mom would say, “Look it up in the dictionary.” This taught me to read and research information instead of asking my mom for the answer. Every summer my brother, sister and I always participated in the Children’s Summer Reading Program at the Kalamazoo Public Library. My mom …show more content…
I can pay attention to one chore or task at a time. Also, I will organize my desk so I can focus on my assignments. When I am online, I will keep my Student Portal and my assignment open at one time. Finally, I will tell my family when I am studying so I will not be interrupted.
My Readiness
I have prepared to begin my online degree in several ways. My family understands that they can support my journey toward this goal by quizzing me with my flashcards and being quiet while I am studying. I understand how online education works because I taken a few online classes in the past and I 've done a lot of research on Ashford University 's online programs. In addition, I signed up for the CHAMPS Online Peer Mentors Program. This will help me create personal relationships with another student. According to the CHAMPS Mentee Experience Video, my mentor will be a high achieving online Ashford student based on time zone, personal interests and family demographics. I am going to be held accountable of my time I am using to
Students may easily lose their attention and concentration with easy access to such incredibly rich store of information. With such new technologies as television, internet and social networks, people nowadays tend to multitask more often as they have easy access to a large amount of information. However, such easy access may sometimes be a distraction. Study “Your Brain on Computers” reports that heavy multitaskers perform up to 20% worse on most tests compared to performance of light multitaskers. Working efficiency of people, who multitask, is claimed to be significantly lower. The same is with concentration. (Crovitz 353) As a result, they are not engaged in working process. Students tend to be easily distr...
In today's world, there is such a big emphasis on education and its importance. And there should be an emphasis. Unfortunately, not everyone has the same attitude about receiving a good education. This article attempts to discuss the attitudes of African American's towards education when a stable family structure is absent.
Education has always been in existence in one form or another. As each child is born into this world regardless of who or where they are born, life lessons immediately begin. He/she will learn to crawl, walk, and talk by the example and encouragement of others. Although these lessons are basic in the beginning they evolve as the child grows. However, the core learning method of a child does not change. Learning from others, they will watch, listen, and then act for themselves. Thomas Jefferson believed that an education would lead men and women to the ability to be self-governed and become positive contributors to society (Mondale & Patton, 2001). Today, we can see how true this is by the examples of others. Those that are given the opportunity for education are more likely to find jobs and develop skills that not only improve a community, but influence the economic growth of their nation (Ravitch, Cortese, West, Carmichael, Andere, & Munson, 2009, p. 13). On the other hand, if an education is not provided to individuals, they can become a hindrance to that nation’s growth.
Education has been the pathway to a better life for many years now. It is full of opportunity for many Americans. Education is not for every child but it is necessary in the early part of kids’ lives to learn the important things. Thanks to our government, we have public education in which we have free kindergarten through 12th grade. Public education is paid by through our taxes. Because of this, the government runs the schools and that can cause some problems. There will always be room for improvement in the public education system. I think the biggest thing we can do to improve K-12 schooling right now, is to go to a year round school year schedule.
I was raised in an encouraging household where both of my parents greatly valued education. Although they were high school graduates, neither could afford to attend college; a combination of family and financial woes ultimately halted their path. As a result, my parents frequently reminded me that getting a good education meant better opportunities for my future. To my parents, that seemed to be the overarching goal: a better life for me than the one they had. My parents wanted me to excel and supported me financially and emotionally of which the former was something their parents were not able to provide. Their desire to facilitate a change in my destiny is one of many essential events that contributed to my world view.
Individuals are constantly searching for a way to create the perfect life they dream. Motivation gives them the drive and desire to obtain specifically what they are in need of. In the short stories The Painted Door, by Sinclair Ross, and A Pair of Silk Stockings by Kate Chopin, the idea that motivations alter the way humans process and interpret information is developed. Ross demonstrates this by using Ann to question her choices during the experiences she faces. Chopin, on the other hand, explores how individuals initiative's alter our behavior. Motivations that individuals experience affect one’s course of action because of their desire to fill what is missing inside them, regardless
Motivation is an internal process that makes a person move toward a goal, the dynamic of behavior. Do not be fooled though, people can be motivated by external incentives as well. First, a person experiences a need that energizes behavior called drive. A response is then activated that leads a person to their goal. According to Coon and Mitterer (2016) motives can be divided into three categories, biological, stimulus, and learned motives.
The greatest woman I’ve ever known always told me that education was important…and she was right. I came from a small town in the suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri prior to becoming a teenager. At the time, education was abundant in St. Ann, where I lived. I attended a decent elementary school and made good grades, despite mathematics not being my cup of tea. I have
College is a period where one is discovering themselves, so alongside navigating higher education, one is learning to function in society without the supervision of their parents. While I have learned a great deal throughout my first year of college, I believe that this is just the beginning. My mentor was extremely helpful by providing with me with tips to be successful my first year, and knowing that I had someone to rely on definitely helped ease my stress and ensured my success in college. By having the Assistance League as a resources for support, I believe that my transition phase will continue to proceed smoothly, and help me attain my goals of helping
Stories and long forgotten tales that teach you the ways of your ancestors, of your forefathers, and these will help you in life in more ways than you know. Is it wrong to make a difference? Is it wrong to want peace and not war? It’s bias to take away books that symbolize knowledge, but it is right to give education to all people, no matter the gender. Education is like a light, leading people to better lives and brighter futures.
The Little Oxford English Dictionary (2006), defines motivation as “the reason for your actions or behaviour”. Similarly, motivation is defined as “the reasons underlying behavior” (Guay et al., 2010, p. 712). In Gredler, Broussard and Garrison (2004), motivation is “the attribute that moves us to do or not to do something” (p. 106). This means that motivation is perceived as the drive to accomplish tasks or the very reason the tasks are not being done properly. It is basically what makes a person put or choose not to put in their effort when completing work. Motivation is the combination of what a person believes in, what he or she values, how a person perceives a certain given situation, what a person likes or dislikes
Although it may be difficult to appreciate at times, it is a privilege that we should not take for granted. I believe that we should appreciate the educational opportunities we have. One person that has influenced my belief is my mom. While we lived in New York, she worked as a teacher at a Head Start program. These organizations help kids growing up in impoverished areas acquire quality education starting at a
We did not live in the best of neighborhoods, and there were times where we had to choose between paying the electric bill and buying groceries. I had many friends from this neighborhood, and many are still there because they feel they are stuck there forever and they had no choice. I saw college as a way to get out of that neighborhood. I had to study hard to earn scholarships and even had to take out a few loans, but I know this further education is worth it. Now I teach alternative high school, and many of my students think that college is out of reach for them because of where they come from, and I try to impart on them, that it is not, and they can see through me that not only is college possible, but advanced graduate degrees are in their grasps.
Coming from a Middle Eastern background, education was not a primary goal for most of the people of the same race as me. Most of them grew up experiencing war instead of an education. I, however, am one of the few lucky ones who was blessed with a grandpa that valued the meaning of an education. My grandpa, a college professor, helped me see myself in a whole new light. I reminisce the memories we shared together.
Human beings are very complex creatures and becoming even more complicated now-a-days. The needs and requirements of man in modern society are constantly changing and increasing as well. When these needs are not fulfilled, people become dissatisfied. In this situation, dissatisfaction is unlikely to contribute to any constructive purposes. This is the reason why motivation has been one of the widely researched topics in organizational psychology (Spector, 1997).
