My first song I´ve chosen is Sean McGee, song titled My Story. Mainly the song is about him facing different struggles, obstacles, and all the horrible things and situations he´s been in throughout his life. I can connect to this song and the lyrics for many reasons. One of his lines were ¨Do you know how it feels to be left out in the rain¨? And I have faced times like this when I feel like no one is there or have my back, and in the line he´s trying express how it feels to have nobody and be all alone. Also throughout this song he expresses how everyday you wake up your face with something rather it's just a minor issue or something that will greatly impact your life.
- Explain briefly what your selected ballad is about and the reasons why you picked it.
Feeling unwanted from the closest people in your life who turn away from you when you need them the most, is the worst feeling a person can endure. I chose the song “My Story” by Sean McGee, because people young and old can relate to his song. People from different backgrounds can relate to each other when there are living homeless or raised as a foster child. Sean McGee wrote “my daddy don’t know, my momma don’t care, it don’t matter if I’m here, it don’t matter if I’m dead” people all around the world have the same issues and share a common culture. A master status is the most important status a person occupies, this is a key factor in determining a person’s social position.
The story “The Old Man Isn’t There Anymore” by Kellie Schmitt is about a lady who lives in China that tries to make friends with the people in her apartment. She does this by sending sympathy flowers to the family of the old man that passed away. She then later attends the funeral of the old man. In the end Schmitt creates a funny twist. Schmitt created an intriguing story about a person’s experience in China.
The thought of the day that I found interesting was “worry is a futile thing, it’s somewhat like a rocking chair. Although it keeps you occupied, it doesn’t get you anywhere” -Anonymous. This quote means that there is no point in worrying because you can’t succeed and move forward, if you worry all the time. This quote relates to the song “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts because the lyrics “I hope the days come easy and the moments pass slow, and each road leads you to where you want to go.” show that stress and worrying is bad and you should try to find ways to avoid it. An event from my life that the quote and lyrics show a connection is when I had a technology project in the 6th grade where we had to build wind powered cars. When the teacher
Based on the text "song of the Buffalo boy" The theme of the text is accept who you are or accept the life is given. In the beginning of the story Lou feels like no one is accepting her and feel she doesn't belong. Most importantly she doesn't like herself. "Why do you call me beautiful. when … I want to look like you and your family"Page 18.her father was Americans so she look different from other Vietnamese and people call con-lai."she hated that word, con-Lao!"pg(28). She hate being different. Later in the story Lou doesn't want to stay in the Village, she wants to run away with khai, A buffalo boy who is the only person that accept her, to America because she has to marry officer Heip, someone she doesn't Love. She want to be with khai
Fortunate son is a song by a band name Creedence Clearwater Revival. The song talks about the difference between kids that belongs to rich families and kids that belongs to poor families. In the verse writer says, “Some folks are born, silver spoon in hand”. Kids that were born in a wealthy family stay rich. They can do whatever they want just because they are rich. In the song, the singer also talks about how the kids that belong to rich families do not have to join the military. They can go to college and get a degree on a full time study. However, kids that belong to poor families are forced to join the army and fight for the country. Rich kids are privileged but poor kids are not.
Music is a time machine that can haul your mind to where you were the first time you heard a song, or it can bring back all the emotions you felt when your favorite song helped you though a tough stage in your life. For most people, music is vital for everyday life; and for some they even take it a step further and they become obsessed with bands or artists. It is no surprise that music makes such an impact on humans because of the emotional connection we can feel to it. Music can have a tremendous influence on people; we can relate on higher level. “Future” by Paramore is the most prominent song in my life. They brilliantly and masterfully bring the song to life by putting abysmal experiences into words.
The Fray's hit song, 'How To Save a Life,' tells a story of a mentor, also a friend, who is trying to 'save a life' of a troubled youth. The story starts off with the teenager and this friend sitting down to have a talk about what is wrong in the teen?s life. The second line reads, 'he walks, you say sit down it's just a talk,' this showing anger and fear of what might be brought up in conversation, so he tries to run away from the problem. Although neither individual wants to have the talk, they both respect each other enough to be polite, 'He smiles politely back at you/
The song I chose is Runaway Love by Ludacris featuring Mary J. Blige. The song was released in 2007 on Ludacris’s fifth album Release Therapy. The style or genre is rhythm and blues and rap. The song is very soulful and emotional. Ludacris is the main voice in the song and raps all of the verses telling a story, however Mary J. Blige is the emotion behind the lyrics and she sings the chorus. The mood of the song is sad and emotional. There is a rhythm though if beats that draws the listener in. The beat is made by a clapping noise and makes the listener want to clap along to the beat. The songs tempo is not too fast or too slow. It's slow enough to be soulful but it's still fast enough to rap to and has a beat. The instruments in this song are the guitar, base, and keyboard, along with background vocals.
Released on the 2nd October 1995 “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?” reached #1 in nine different charts worldwide including the European Album’s Chart. This release coincided with the release of Iron Maiden’s Tenth album “The X Factor”.
n “Song FOR My Father”, Eric Liu talked about how his father illness has changed the life of his family and how he viewed his father differently inasmuch as the clash of his Chinese heritage and his identity as an Asian American. He also mentioned the power of love by using his personal experience to describe the pain he was suffering at that time. In “No Name Woman”, Maxine Hong Kingston referred to how her family and neighbors created a new identity for her aunt in the view of the fact that her behavior has violated the traditions and history of Chinese culture. She also stated how the family betrayed her aunt by deliberately forgetting her. From these two essays, we can understand how crucial our heritage and families to everyone as they
Cathy Song and Neil Aitkens, used their talent in writing and put their thoughts onto paper for many to appreciate. “Events become a window through which we enter a field of vision” (Klinkowitz & Wallace 2012, p. 1158). That is something both poets did, they allowed their personal events to guide the stroke of their pens. Whereas Memory by Neil Aitkens show clear expression of sorrow, Heaven by Cathy Song has more of an ambivalent tone. Both poems are similar in that they both use imagery to connect with their readers, why one may get a sense that the writers themselves long for connection in their own lives.
1 in every 2,000 people was murdered in Baltimore in 2016. Poems and songs with similar themes, share a lot of elements. Elements like occasion, purpose and the speaker can be compared and contrasted to find out which piece is more artistic and which writer used their poetic devices more thoroughly. ”You make the Culture” by Amy King and the song “Bigger than us” by Damian Lillard. “Bigger than us” as more artistic than “You make The Culture”, because of Damian Lillard’s better use of The theme of gun violence and poetic devices.
Believer talks about taking control of your own life.“I'm the one at the sail, I'm the master of my sea, oh ooh”. This line is saying the everyone has power over their own lives and they should follow their dreams and interests. This relates to my eighth grade year because of what I did for career day and my global capstone project. For career day I went to a renewable energy company and talked about the industry with them, then I did renewable energy for my capstone project. That has been one of my main interests in the past few years and despite other options and opportunities, I did what I felt is interesting and I may want to pursue in my future. Another part of that verse says, “Don't you tell me what you think that I can be.” This is saying that what other people think about what you want doesn’t matter, and you should pursue your passion. When I told
In conclusion, I found that both of these songs had a strong impact on my emotions. Not only did they impact me but they also told of story of hope, faith and belief
