The thought of the day that I found interesting was “worry is a futile thing, it’s somewhat like a rocking chair. Although it keeps you occupied, it doesn’t get you anywhere” -Anonymous. This quote means that there is no point in worrying because you can’t succeed and move forward, if you worry all the time. This quote relates to the song “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts because the lyrics “I hope the days come easy and the moments pass slow, and each road leads you to where you want to go.” show that stress and worrying is bad and you should try to find ways to avoid it. An event from my life that the quote and lyrics show a connection is when I had a technology project in the 6th grade where we had to build wind powered cars. When the teacher
Florida Georgia Line consists of two country singers, Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard. Ever since the two met at college, their careers have taken off. Florida Georgia Line is well known for its hit, “Cruise” which has had over one million downloads sold and topped both country radio charts. Due to this success, a remix was created with Nelly. This original song was released in 2012, and is part of the album, “Here’s to the Good Times,” whereas the remix was released in 2013.
Feeling unwanted from the closest people in your life who turn away from you when you need them the most, is the worst feeling a person can endure. I chose the song “My Story” by Sean McGee, because people young and old can relate to his song. People from different backgrounds can relate to each other when there are living homeless or raised as a foster child. Sean McGee wrote “my daddy don’t know, my momma don’t care, it don’t matter if I’m here, it don’t matter if I’m dead” people all around the world have the same issues and share a common culture. A master status is the most important status a person occupies, this is a key factor in determining a person’s social position.
My first song I´ve chosen is Sean McGee, song titled My Story. Mainly the song is about him facing different struggles, obstacles, and all the horrible things and situations he´s been in throughout his life. I can connect to this song and the lyrics for many reasons. One of his lines were ¨Do you know how it feels to be left out in the rain¨? And I have faced times like this when I feel like no one is there or have my back, and in the line he´s trying express how it feels to have nobody and be all alone. Also throughout this song he expresses how everyday you wake up your face with something rather it's just a minor issue or something that will greatly impact your life.
Billie Holiday’s “Blue Moon” was featured in her 1952 album Billie Holiday Sings produced by Norman Granz. This Jazz standard was originally written in 1935 by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart who were contracted by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to write songs for Hollywood Movies. Perhaps the most epic and original Jazz singer in history, Billie’s voice had a quality like no other. With strength she had remarkable melodic sensitivity and phrasing, allowing her to master the art of evoking emotion. With her “Broken Voice” due to her life experiences and a powerful elegance this vocal jazz love song along with her entire jazz ensemble, was some of the best of her last.
Rap music has given me personally something to look up to. Not a role model but hope of continuing my dreams because rappers successfully made it. “For what’s money without happiness, or hard times without the people you love” is from a song called “Love Yourz” by J. Cole. He clearly understands how there is “beauty in the struggle and ugliness in the success” because he’s lived that life. Other songs such as “2Face” or “The Autograph” were instantly relatable to me because he has been through several struggles from the beginning of his childhood. Cole’s father left when he was six leaving his mother and younger brother alone. Cole became “the man of the house” but becoming a rapper is not as easy as it seems. Cole’s messages in these two songs are relative because I too, have had several issues with my mother and father creating a sense of lonesome. Hearing music like Coles helped me overcome my
Have you ever been in a relationship where the roots ran so deep that you could feel the relationship you and your significant other grew being cut down in your heart when it was finally over? Well, Russ Vitale writes about his past relationship with his ex girlfriend in the song "Losing Control" which explains how his ex is afraid to love again due to the way Russ treated her. Russ produced his first song at the age of 18, and new her wanted to be a rapper so he dropped out of college. Al his songs are self-made, meaning he produces the song, he writes the song, creates the beat for the song, and engineers the song. He started by producing music on Soundcloud and paved his way to fame. However, the fame may be too much for him to handle because the fame was the reason he drifted away from his ex girlfriend. Through figurative language, Russ addresses to his ex how she must allow herself to love again, creating a tone of remorse. His song is significant and powerful because it highlights how love and destruction are two sides of the same coin.
The song “Use Somebody” by King of Leon shows Holden’s perception of the world. For example, Holden walks around New York and criticizes all he see’s. He says, “ New York is terrible, when somebody laughs on the street very late at night. You can hear it for miles. It makes you feel so lonesome and depressed” (Salinger 81). Holden thinks of everyone and everything in a depressing manor. Everything that other people do, makes him depressed and which makes them a “phony”. In addition, the band King of Leon feel the same way when they say, “ I’ve been roaming around/Always looking down at all I see” (King of Leon). Holden always sees things in a negative way and is looking down on life. Holden does not have the happiness that other people have
Country Music is everywhere. It may come blaring from a neighbor’s house, blasting the radio from a car or truck, or even playing quietly in a restaurant; but why exactly is Country Music so popular for people to listen to? When it comes to Country Music, the lyrics comes straight from the artist`s hearts where people can relate to them; the rhythm and beat are unique to the specific song, and the artist knows exactly how to tell a perfect story in the song.
The song “Car Radio” by Twenty One Pilots teaches us that with silence we have nothing to block out our thoughts or to hide behind. In the song the artist says “Sometimes quiet is violent” (Twenty One Pilots 14), Twenty One Pilots saying that choice of words is trying to tell us that quiet can sometimes put us in those deep thoughts about things we shouldn’t mess with. “Cause this time there’s no sound to hide behind” (Twenty One Pilots 34), with us having the distraction of a car radio playing we hide our thoughts behind the sounds. “I could pull the steering wheel” (Twenty One Pilots 25), the artist is saying that he could pull the steering wheel meaning he could end his deep thoughts by suicide. The literary element that stands the most
As I lay there the day played over and over again, subconsciously I kept seeing the girl in my dream. I thought what was the significance of today? What lesson did I learn? Well, I learned that no matter what we do all day, we should take the time to acknowledge our heartbeats. To listen, even for just five to ten seconds and think, wow!
“Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day?” A few months after the unexpected attack on New York City and Washington D.C, Alan Jackson debuted a new song on November 7, 2001 called “Where Were You.” It was launched only eight weeks after the attack. The song had won a Grammy and multiple country music awards. Ten years prior to his first debut of this song, fans still expect him to perform this song at all of his shows. It was a deep and meaningful tribute to the attack and the memorials of the lives that were lost and the buildings that were destroyed. On September 11, 2001, America was under attack. The World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and possibly the White House were all targets for the attack. Approximately
“A Summer in Ohio” is sung by Anna Kendrick in the film The Last Five Years. Throughout this song Anna states things that she could be doing instead of spending her summer in Ohio. This song relates the subject of opportunity cost. The opportunity cost of an item is what must be given up to obtain that item. One example is when Anna sings, “I could wander Paris after dark, take a carriage ride through Central Park, but it wouldn't be as nice as a summer in Ohio where I'm sharing a room with a "former" stripper and her snake: Wayne.” It is obvious that one person cannot be in two places at once. The choice that Anna made to spend her summer in Ohio meant that she had to give up the other ideas for her summer plans. The opportunity cost of Anna
A song that helped me throughout my life is Already Gone by Bayside. The song was released on the Killing Time album in 2011; the year my life took a different turn. All within the year 2011, I had graduated high school, been accepted to California Baptist University, had two serious bodily injuries where one required emergency surgery, and had been working near full time as a lowly pizza delivery driver to make ends meet.
The repetition used clearly shows the sincerity and meaningfulness of the girl’s kiss. The boy knew that she was sincere in her actions and wasn’t just doing it because it was expected. On the contrary, the night was very special and meant something to her and she expressed her feelings through a kiss. Here, both the boy and the listener realize that she sincerely loves him. Thus, the story is comes to an end, the boy gets what he sought out from the beginning: a real kiss.
Tonight we stand at a crossroad where each one of use will take a new direction in our life's journey. Walt Whitman said "Not I - not anyone else can travel that road for you. You must travel it for yourself." Where we end up isn't the most important decision, but instead it is the road we choose to take to get there. The road we take is what we will look back on and call our life. Life is a journey of everyday experiences, teaching us moment in, moment out, who we really are. It's important to remember these words "Happiness is to be found along the way, not at the end of the road, for then the journey is over and it is too late."
