The two agencies of socialization I pick are: neighborhood and school. Except family, neighborhood and school are play an important role of our development. They will affect our view of value, belief and behavior.
There are many similarities for us to choose a neighborhood to live or a school to educate. We will look for the environment first if the neighborhood or school safe, how about the people surrounding, are they nice. If children grow up in a poverty, low income or drug use neighborhood, they usually may experience poor education, mistrust the society, poor decision making, lack of socializing skill, low self-esteem. My parents very love us, very focus on our education and behave. The neighborhood I grow up is not very wealthy. There are two gangster team in our community. If you don’t bother them, those gangster won’t make trouble to you. Luckily, there are some family next to our house are very nice. We usually support and help each other. Therefore, as soon as I don’t went far from house, I still feel pretty safe of the environment where I am. I usually play with my neighbor’s kids in front of my house or their house. But talking about school, I usually be discriminated in the class. I remember one of the girl in my class and her brother usually pick on me, embarrasses me. They think they are richer and smarter than me. I usually feel scare or anxiety when I go to school. I don’t know what I will experience on that day. I develop low self-esteem, very quiet in class. Luckily, my teacher is very nice and my study ability is not that bad. I usually maintain a very good grade in class. My mom always tell us if we want a better life, we need to work hard and have good education. Since I have a very supportive family and a nice relationship with my neighbor, my behavior in school and home is very different. In school I always quiet, some time I will depress. No wonder if the neighborhood environment is nice and safe, it will increase the outdoor activity and socialization. Children will develop high self-esteem and outgoing personality. Privileged children usually experience better education and more succeed in school or life. Children have more chance to experience high technology, variety of sports and develop better logical or critical thinking and creative idea because they can afford travel to experience different of culture and new thing. It will make their point of view wider. As I say there are always exemption. We look at Jacky Chang’s son. Jacky Chang is a very famous movie star. He makes lots of money and help a lots of people. A lots people admire him and his son. Jacky Chang’s son is born in USA, grow up in a very privileged community and go to a very good school. People think his son must be educated and good behave boy. Unfortunately, just not long time ago, Hong Kong media discovers Jacky Chang’ son is drug abuse and illegal storing lots of illegal drug in his own house. He is impression for a few month in China. Therefore, there is no such an absolute situation or outcome, it depends on how view of our value, beliefs and how we behave or make decision upon so much attractive thing surrounding
