In my opinion social media is bad because you can see inappropriate content, teen suicide, and also cyber bullying. There are great deals of examples for each of these reasons. These examples show why people shouldn’t be on social media if there not of age. I will explain these reasons and examples in the next paragraphs. Social media is full of inappropriate content. One of these are pictures and videos people might see. Also people see words that are bad. You can find all these things on YouTube, snapchat, and also more. Social media has a big problem with cyber bullying. Cyber bullying has a big effect on teens and it happens all the time. There are million examples of cyber bullying in social media. You find cyber bullying in snapchat,
Bullying has occurred for many years and via the internet is a new form of bullying, giving higher chances for bullying to occur more often due to technology.
Facebook is a social network that lets you post anything you want, like; statuses, pictures, videos. You can see what your friends are doing just by what they post and they can do the same for you. Twitter is about the same when it comes to sharing posts, pictures, etc. but you have a limit of characters for each tweet you send.. These social networks take over a persons’ life because of how much they are on it; but this is only one of few major problems with that come with these networks. There have been cases when people libel one another, trying to ruin each other’s lives. There are teenagers bullying other teenagers on these networks and we call it cyberbullying. Two other major problems are invasion of a person’s privacy and Facebook tracking your every move.
Social media such as Facebook and Twitter provides students the opportunity to cyber bully other students. “Instructors who use social media as part of their course activities should be aware of potential dangers….’By intervening at minor behaviors, we can stop more severe negative behaviors’” (Lederer, para 9). Cyber bullying is not just middle school or high school behavior, it is also happening at college campuses. A study conducted at Indian State University found, “22 percent of college students admit to being harassed online. Of this group 25 percent report they were bullied through a social networking site” (Lederer, para 9). As with texting that was mentioned earlier, social media also interrupts face-to-face
Facebook and other social media platforms have brought communication across the world to a whole new level. The rise of social media has created a place for children to communicate with others in both a positive and negative manner. Although it has made a positive impact on American youth, it has also contributed and exacerbated bullying in our schools. This new form of bullying, often referred to as cyberbullying, has created an around-the-clock atmosphere where bullying can occur even when school is not in session. Many professionals have sought to address the negative aspects of social media and have worked to develop a solution to bring cyberbullying to an end.
CyberBullying is known as the use of Internet and/or mobile technology to harass, intimidate, or cause harm to another, according to criminal.findlaw.com. Due to people having the ability to recreate themselves on Social media to be whomever they want, it 's extremely easy to say things that one would never think to say in person. The internet give everyone the power to say what they want with little to know effect on their real life. However, little do these people know, it affects other greatly. 49.5% of students reported being the victims of bullying online and Middle school children who were victims of cyberbullying were almost twice as likely to attempt suicide. This here is a prime example to why social media is an extremely bad community. Statistics given by the Cyber Bullying Hotline state that 20% of kids cyberbullied think about suicide, and in 10 attempt it and 4500 kids commit suicide each year. This makes suicide the number three killer of teens in the united
You might hear your friends saying, “Hey, you should get a Snapchat!” Well, did you know that most Bullying happens over social media? Social Media is any online communication. Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Texting, e-Mail, and more. Cyberbullying is more commonly used because the Victims might never know who the Bully was.
Cyberbullies are hiding behind technology because they can’t deal with the victim face to face. People depend on social networking sites because it’s an easy way to target their victim. Girls are more likely to bully online and boys are more likely to bully in person. Cell phones and computers are not to blame for cyberbullying it’s social media sites themselves that are to blame. 25% of teens say that they have been bullied through the use of technology and over half of young people report being cyberbullied. Cyberbullying happens 24/7 and never stops because technology can be used whenever the bully wants to use it for hurting their
One reason why people like social media is because students have an easier way to interact with each other. On the other hand some people think that social media is a big issue for cyber bullying. But other people think that cyber bullying would still be an issue even without it. They say that people would just use texting or any other way they could find to do it and that it would still be an issue. One a completely different perspective some people think that is not an issue at all today.
It has become a real issue in the last decade because of the rapid advances in social media. My Space was just one way to cyber bully someone in the past, now there is Facebook, Twitter and other avenues to use social media to bully someone. The problem with this type of bullying is that it can be harder to find the bully and prosecute someone who is behind a violent act. As we have seen many stories of people who make up fictious Facebook accounts and put fake names to attack the character of another person. It could be very demoralizing to the victim because Facebook is a billboard about a person. Once private information is out there, it is hard to erase. “Over half of adolescents and teens have been bullied online, and about the same number have engaged in cyber bullying. More than 1 in 3 young people have experienced cyber threats online. Over 25 percent of adolescents and teens have been bullied repeatedly through their cell phones or the Internet. Well over half of young people do not tell their parents when cyber bullying occurs” (Facts about Bullying, n.d.). The only positive that I can see for cyber bullying is that, as a parent you can be diligent and always have the password to your child’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. Check and monitor their activity often and when you suspect things are not right on accounts you can immediately shut them
The rapid evolution of the internet in recent years has brought about many exciting changes and features, but many negative side effects have evolved as well. Nearly all young people with internet access will use some type of social media to some extent, but how does this impact them? Social media can be an incredibly powerful tool, but the negative aspects can pose risks in many situations. The use of social media should be encouraged, especially among college students, but since there are negative side effects to social media, better education of how to make use of the benefits and avoid the negative aspects should be in place. In order to fully understand how social media impacts society, one must know exactly what qualifies as social media.

Most people who are doing the bullying only bully others only to make themselves feel better. Cyberbullying targets the ages of 13-20 due to the fact that this is when most teens are getting phones, ipods, computers, etc. According to Brian Jung, “Technology has allowed for social networking to be available on the go.” By having social media available to most ages, this affects the amount of people that are cyberbullied to the fact that others only will talk bad about someone only behind a tiny screen. Most social media sites involve putting in personal information in order to make an account. By putting personal information about yourself on a profile means that the public is able to see the profile. Some people can or even will spread false and dangerous information about other people in order to make their lives miserable. “Among the youth, fourty-seven percent have been victims of cyberbullying.” States Brian Jung. If most teens who are able to be in contact with social media can have a reaction of how productive and individual is
There are about one and a half billion users of social media worldwide. It can be used to meet new people, find old friends, chat the day away, join interest groups, or even to share pictures. Social networks were mostly created so people could meet and find new friends. What most users of social media don't know, are the dangers of using social media. One example is when you meet a person online, because they are not always who they say they are. If someone is not who you may think they are, who could they be? They can be a stalker or a person that wants to steal your identity; which could be done easily thanks to new developments of new technology. Also thanks to new technology it is now easier for people using your information to track you. Posting personal information can risk your family and friends lives. Social media can be used as a weapon against you. It can even lead to a kidnapping, or even someone's death. Many people use social media to help to waste time, but could also become an unhealthy addiction. Also social media can damage your future. When you are a teen you tend to post pretty much anything you want. This is dangerous because you can post too much personal information. What most teens don't realize is that what they do on social media now can affect them for the rest of their life. It can even come back to haunt you in the future. Social media is dangerous because it makes it easier to be stalked, identity theft to happen, kidnappings and murders, and also can ruin your future.
