Psalm 101 and “Bet on It” by Zac Efron in the High School Musical have many similarities and differences in terms of emotions and messages. While Psalm 101 speaks of King David making a promise to God that he will make sure that his kingdom would be free of any evil and that he will punish anyone who practices deceit in his house, Zac Efron’s song “Bet on It” speaks of a high school kid wanting to take control of his life and be the man he wanted to be despite losing his entire future. Nevertheless, both sources shared an idea that whether you are grateful for God’s help or eager to make a change in your life, actions always speak louder than words regardless of the promises you are making. Due to the lack of religious beliefs in High School Musical, the song generally focuses more on the plot of the movie whether than the spiritual sense behind the song itself. In my opinion, the song provides an important life lesson that can be used regardless of your religion. God never expects us to be perfect people. In fact, he likes the idea of imperfect people since he can perform miraculous works through them for the sake of humanity. After the fall of Adam and Eve, God began creating covenants with his people, including our Father in faith, Abraham. He even continues to create covenants with his people today through dreams and other people. For Troy Bolton, I can argue that Jesus works through Gabriella in allowing Troy to realize that he was not being himself when he began to abandon his friends and act with excessive arrogance. Paulo Coelho once said, “The strongest love is the love that can demonstrate its fragility.” Jesus died for us because of his love for humanity. King David vowed to prevent his people from sinning because of his love for God and his people.
