Psalm 104 and “Hymn to Aten” are similar in many ways. Psalm 104 is a section in the Bible most known for celebrating God's glory in his works creating all things and praising those who praise him and making an end to those who do not. Psalm 104 starts by explaining the glory of God and then transitioning to the ordering of the waters, the vegetation and animal life, the sun and moon and day and night. It goes on to describe how all creatures still depend on the creator and perish if his attention is averted. The last verses reiterate the power and glory of Elohim or God. During the New Kingdom of Egypt (from 1552 through 1069 B.C.), there came a sweeping change in the religious structure of the ancient Egyptian civilization. "The Hymn to the Aten" was created by Amenhotep IV, who ruled from 1369 to 1353 B.C., and began a move toward a monotheist culture instead of the polytheist religion which Egypt had experienced for the many hundreds of years prior to the introduction of this new idea. There was much that was different from the old views in "The Hymn to the Aten", and it offered a new outlook on the Egyptian ways of life by providing a complete break with the traditions which Egypt held to with great respect. Yet at the same time, there were many commonalties between these new ideas and the old views of the Egyptian world. Although through the duration of his reign, Amenhotep IV introduced a great many changes to the Egyptian religion along with "The Hymn", none of these reforms outlived their creator, mostly due to the massive forces placed on his successor, Tutankhamen, to renounce these new reforms. However, the significance of Amenhotep IV, or Akhenaten as he later changed his name to, is found in "The Hymn". "The Hymn" itself can be looked at as a contradiction of ideas; it must be looked at in relation to both the Old Kingdom's belief of steadfast and static values, as well as in regards to the changes of the Middle Kingdom, which saw unprecedented expansionistic and individualistic oriented reforms. The book Anthem and the song 2112: Overture have many similarities throughout the stories they portray. Anthem is a book by Ayn Rand it tells the story of Equality 7-2521 and his life. The book is very interesting from the way they get a job to how they find a spouse. Equality is pro said to be an evil man. He doesn’t like the rules, he never has, and probably never will. 2112: Overture is a song by rush is a story about a young lad who enjoys music. The song is around 20 minutes long and tells an amazing story of him as he tries to find his way. There are several connections between the two. The way the characters act and are treated by others is so similar which is surprising due to how different their life really is.
Song of Ariran is a collaborative work of great importance. The book, written by Nym Wales, is a personal account of Kim San, who was a Korean rebel leader based in China. San was fighting the Japanese occupation of his country. The book emerged out of Wales’ interviews with San, which took place in the summer of 1937. While Wales admits that he was not entirely interested in devoting his time and energies to an in depth investigation, he was soon won over by San. Amenhotep IV was born in c. 1365 BCE during the 18th dynasty in Egypt to Pharaoh Amenhotep III and Queen Tiye (Aldred 11). He was given his name in honor of the Gods Amun and Re whom Amenhotep III sought to be the earthly representative of (Bratton 17). At the bottom of the spine is the logo for the Concordia Publishing House. On the front cover is another cross with a circle behind it and the printed name David Edward Mahen. This is the modern Lutheran Hymnal used by the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. This Lutheran Hymnal is not just a symbol of Lutheranism but the moderate views of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.
Lutheran hymns were not just songs of worship, but were a method to spread their propaganda and hatred about the Roman Church. Just like Akhenaten in the aforementioned relief, the king and his family were depicted in an exaggerated style, much different than the idealized style of past Egyptian art. The human body was drawn with emphasis on the curves of the hips and stomach, but also presented individual features that made it easy to discern who was pictured. Along with differences in style, the content of art changed, with the royal family being seen in increased intimacy. There is even a relief of Nefertiti sitting on Akhenaten’s lap, a closeness not previously seen in royal art. The Aten Great Temple reflects the changes in architecture that especially permeated temple architecture. Temples were built open to the air, allowing Aten to penetrate the sacred area with his rays. Also, temple reliefs evolved to depict scenes of daily life at Amarna and the activities of the royal family instead of that of gods, as previously seen in Egypt. The Great Temple contained nine hundred open air mudbrick offering tables, like the ones depicted in the relief, in which food offerings would be left for Amen. The fiftieth psalm begins with the heading “A psalm of Asaph”. Whether it was officially written by him or simply dedicated to him , it is noteworthy to understand who Asaph was and the impact he had on the music and worship of Israel. Asaph was part of a music guild in the court of David along with Heman (1 Chronicles 6:39 ) and Ethan (1 Chronicles 15:19). These men were appointed to lead the musical celebration for the return of the Ark of the Covenant when King David danced passionately enough to embarrass his wife Michal (1 Chronicles 15:16ff). He also served under the leadership of King Solomon during an incredibly significant theophany of the glory of God (2 Chronicles 5:12-14). Perhaps this dramatic encounter with God led to the divine inspiration of Psalm 50’s theophany. Not only was Asaph a music leader, but also a writer of music and referred to as a “seer” (2 Chronicles 29:30). Evidently Asaph’s ability to “see” was an asset in the writing of this psalm, for Asaph “saw” quite a startling prophecy of God and his coming judgments on His people.

The Psalm begins with a dramatic introduction, an open invitation to all peoples and inhabitants of the world, calling all to “hear” (v 2). This suggests the inclusive character of wisdom which incorporates all low and high, rich and poor (v 3). Wisdom applies for all, despite one’s social status. The words of a wisdom teacher are those of wisdom and understanding (v 4). And he will incline his ear to a proverb and solve the riddle (v 5). These peaceful and great times in Egypt lasted until about 1400 BCE when Amenhotep IV took to the throne. He is better known as Akhenaten which means “living spirit of Aten”. He only believed in one god which is contrast to many Egyptians’ beliefs. Even with the opposition, he still enforced the Egyptians to become monotheistic. He also moved the Egyptian capital from Thebes to Amarna to help with his monotheistic push. His time on the throne is known as the Amarna period. He was also known for being the first ruler to request a temple to be made for him and his wife.
