The importance of showing up for shifts at work When someone has a job to do it is important to that person to show up, and to show up on time. When someone has a responsibility to do anything, that person should make sure to be on time and inform others if changes are made. A job is a responsibility in itself. A person is given a responsibility to watch the desk and keep the residents safe. If that person is not at the desk anyone can just walk in and try to either hurt or mess with the residents. We would not know who is or was in the building at that time. When a person is on time and at the desk resident’s life is pleased and the residents are staff from the outside world that could snick past them on a daily basis. At the dorm anything can happen. The person at the desk is there to keep the residences safe, while keeping up with the desk jobs given to that person. If that person is not at the desk those responsibilities are not tended to. If someone that was not suppost to be in the building sees that there is no one at the desk, they could sneak in and hurt or disrupt the residences of that dorm. It also causes the staff to have to work at and call campus police to get help. This causes a problem in itself. So the staff member on duty so most definitely be at their shifts at all times when they are suppost to be there for safely of all in the building they are working in. The second thing that we see is that we can keep up to date with the other staff and the residence events that are going on in and around the dorm or campus. There are many things with staff updates and school wide events happening that we should be up to date for. As things come up at the desk with information from our SRA and our higher bosses, we need to make sure that there are not notes left for us at the desk for that specific shift or shifts to be worked later. When at the desk we can learn how to do multiple things that we would not know if we did not have this job, or responsibilities. The things that we learn will probably be a little different for each person. The basic desk procedures will be the same for all staff in this potion, but there are little lessons that can come up at any time that can help that employee out during or after that shift is worked. The staff member could have been having a bad day prior to the shift they are working and could have a really sour mood. This can teach that person that no matter the way they feel they should still behave the correct way with a happy mood that will reflect in the bad mood to subside and the happy mood to stay making the staff member more likely to have a better rest of the shift and day after that shift is worked. Also mood and attitude are everything at the desk so if you are having a bad day and don’t even show up at the desk for your shift the person before that staff member that is trying to leave will have to stay till the next shift member comes, making them not have a pleasant mood, causing the rest of that day not good for that

If a boss does not recognize this and take action against the employee who shuns his responsibility, it can create animosity in the workplace, and diminish the respect of his loyal employees.
A negative work environment can make employees feel irritable, anxious and defensive. This can cause poor productivity, lack of motivation and poor communication in the workplace which in turn can cause problems for the company. An employer’s abuse of power can cause mental or emotional distress on employees and also disrupt the workplace. Examples of employers abusing their position include humiliation, undermining, disrespectful language, discriminatory comments, yelling and intimidation. When employees are surrounded by this on a daily basis it can affect their self-worth. Employers can resolve these issues by allowing open lines of communication and by not giving employees the impression that it is acceptable to act negatively and disrespect fellow employees.
