Should teens work while attending school? No, I believe that student should not work while going to school because working can cause extra stress and hurt a student's work habit. Working requires time and students don't have time for almost anything because of having to do homework, studying, or going to an after school sport/club. Students need time to work on making projects presentable and efficient. Work needs a person's motivation and time because it is a big part in a person's life and not being able to focus or show up can really damage a person's job/career. Not focusing can also affect a student's grade and hurt their chances of succeeding at their level. A student does have a choice whether or not they allow their work interfere with their school life. Although, a person does have a lot of stress as it is, so making decisions will not be an easy task at the time. Working can lead a student into overload and have them make poor decisions. An example of a student making a poor decision other than not doing a certain assignment is choosing to drink or do drugs because of high levels of stress. Drug abuse and alcohol is usually a ‘gateway’ for stress relief these days for students because of its popularity and ability to help ease pain. Student’s at this time are most likely not going to make good decisions. Bechman, an author who wrote ‘Teenagers’ Work Can Have Downsides’, explained “students who work long hours in jobs during the school year...are more likely to be involved in a variety of problem behaviors…”. Students who do work, because of financial issues, should be allowed to have a bit of an extension do to the possibility that they do not have enough hours in the day to work on homework, study, and go to work.
