I do not agree with the bill that would require a person to earn a high school diploma before he or she can receive their driver's license. In high school, a lot of teens parents are not reliable enough to take them back and forth to school every day. If the teen lives far from the high school it makes it even harder for them to find a way to school. The two years between sixteen and eighteen give the teen time to learn driving skills and become better at driving. If they cannot get it till they are eighteen now it is the cause of a mistake they have made in early driving so they should not get it till then anyway.
Teens should not have to wait until they earn a high school diploma to drive. When a teen graduates high school they will have to go out into the real world with no experience of driving. If they get it two years prior to graduating there is plenty of

time to practice and know the rules of the road. The teen will adapt to the driving world and not be as nervous or scared to get out there with other people on the road with them. How would you like to have your teen just thrown out into the driving world with no past experience and they are all the way at college? It would be scary, but if you know they have prior knowledge of driving it might put your mind at ease. Transportation reliability from a teens family is difficult. What if the teen can not get a ride from a parent or guardian and there is no bus route to their house? They can not go to school without a ride. They also can not get a ride from a friend because that friend is not old enough to take them either. Buses would be way overcrowded anyways by the amount of kids who would be joining the bus if the bill was passed. More traffic would be caused due to the chaos caused by buses and parents taking their child to school. The students would not be able to come to school at whatever time is convenient for them because of mandatory bus times and the parents availability. Getting a job is another issue with a license.
Most teens are getting jobs at high school ages. They would need a way to get to and from work on their own. More often than not a teens work schedule is not going to coincide with the parent or guardian's schedule. The job would just end up being a hassle for both the teen and the parent taking them. If they have a license, there would not be a problem with getting a job when they can take themselves whenever. Having a job in high school sets you up to be more responsible, builds time management skills, and you can save up college money or money to support yourself.
Even though some might argue that my points are invalid and are not reliable, these are very real subjects that I am facing at the moment while being a high school student. Having your license in high school builds responsibility, knowledge, and the adaptation of the real world. Transportation will always be an issue somewhere for somebody, but making a teen wait until receiving a high school diploma is making the issue even worse than it is. Please take all of my suggestions into
consideration.
The driving age should not be raised to 18 years old because teenagers have responsibilities to be go to certain places, if teenagers learn to drive early on in life they will be more comfortable driving and cautious when they get older, and an opposing view point is that teenager’s reflexes are not fully developed or equipped to safely handle an accident. II. Teenagers have responsibilities to be go to certain places. A. Teenagers normally have responsibilities to go to places like sport practices, band meetings or even school meetings. B. Teenagers should be able to drive themselves so they do not miss their activity because they have no one to take them.
Sixteen year olds do have a valid argument as to why the age should stay where it is now. Endersby argues that many teens are in fact safe and careful drivers, they should not be punished for the bad behavior of others. Also, studies show that the same bad behavior commonly seen in men in their twenties is seen in sixteen and seventeen year olds. Driving is a huge part of a teenager’s social life too. They need licenses to get to school, work, or social events. So, a way to keep the driving age at sixteen and have better driving on the road is to have a graduated driver licensing. This GDL would make it so new drivers would gain experience driving under supervision of an older experienced driver before they can drive on their own. (Endersby)
Driving at the age of sixteen is perfectly okay with people who does not seem to care because he or she feels as if someone gets into a car they are automatically going to put all attention into driving the vehicle which is not true nowadays because teenage drivers feel the need to be on a cell phone or trying to control the radio and trying to get dressed or put on make up when he or she should only be focused on operating the car. As the CDC stated “High school students aged 16 years and older who, when surveyed, said they had driven a vehicle one or more times during the past 30 days when they had been drinking alcohol.” ("Teen Drinking and Driving"), high school students are actually drinking when they should not be anywhere neat alcohol beverages and be able to drive. Based on these facts “Teens are more likely to speed, run red lights, make illegal turns, ride with an intoxicated driver, and drive after using alcohol or drugs.” (Only the Strong Survive "Teen Driving Crash and Fatality Stats"), teenagers are most likely to one ride with a intoxicated driver, and two driver after using alcohol or drugs which proves my point that teenagers should not be able to drive at such a young
Students’ wouldn’t be able to hold down a job is the second reason they shouldn’t dropout of high school. Many employers would like to have someone who has been too high school and that have been educated so they can handle money and add things p...
My parents gave me my first car for my sixteenth birthday. I was overjoyed by this new found freedom; however, like a large portion of teenagers, I was also terrified of driving. This was mostly because I didn’t receive a lot of experience with my permit, and also because I was afraid of crashing my new car. In the years preceding my sixteenth birthday I had mourned the deaths of several teenaged friends who had died in car crashes. I ended up waiting a full year after I turned sixteen to take my driving test, because I didn’t feel comfortable driving until then, which later paid off when I passed my driving test the first time I took it. In my opinion, all teenagers should do as I did and wait to get their licenses. Though in reality, not all teenagers would agree to wait, so, I believe the legal driving age should be raised to eighteen years of age.
All in all lowering the driving age is the best thing our country can do to make teenagers and parents life easier, even just doing simple day to day tasks will be much easier if your teen had a driver's licence. By letting your teen get their licence you are helping yourself and them at the same time because they can now run your errands for you and you spend less time worrying about who is gonna get your kid here or
Engines roaring and cars flying down the highway recklessly, racing to the finish. This is a stereotyped outlook on teen drivers. This however, is not the case. Teens don’t drive to race down the road. They drive for freedom. They drive to get where they need to be on their own. The driving age should not be raised to 18 because it takes away their feeling of freedom, Denies the access to needed transportation, denies experience, It puts additional stress on parents, and they need to be learning the driving skill while they’re young.
In conclusion, while restricting a driver’s license to only those with a high school diploma is a good idea in theory, there are too many cons that overweigh the pros of the effects it would have on those involved. The lack of freedom, practice, and the negative effects on parents all prove this point. High school students need to have the liberation they often feel deprived of. They also need to have practice driving before they attend college. All in all, hoping behind the wheel and taking a car for a drive is something every teenager should be entitled to, whether they have a high school diploma, or
All in all, it is strongly suggested that teenagers to work while in high school. They obtain a lot of benefits from working, such as becoming more responsibe, practicing time effectively, and providing some experiences that will prepare for their future. Having a job while attending school is quite hard. However, a self motivated and well organized person may find it easy to balance work and school.
Those who are in vote for the increase of the driving age may say that 16 year olds are not mature enough to tackle the responsibility of controlling a moving vehicle. Letting 16 year old teenagers drive gives them the responsibility to make mature and correct decisions. There are so many social pressures out there including texting and drinking. Teenagers know that they should not give in to these pressures due to the multiple programs and reminders. Teens can also make responsible decisions by deciding whether they are ready to drive or not. If the 16 year old is not ready to drive, they might wait a little longer to get more practice. So by categorizing that all teenagers are not mature enough to handle driving would be arbitrary.
Could you Imagine being told that you can not get your driver's licence because you GPA is too low? Passing a law to insure that teens with low GPA’s can not drive is a bad idea. To start off who would even manage the millions of teens to see what GPA they have. Something else is how much would it cost for taxpayers? Finally how many illegal drivers do you think would be on the road then?
How old is it to drive? Most would argue the legal driving age of sixteen seems appropriate for someone to begin taking the wheel, while others say that twenty-one is a more sufficient age. Even though raising or maintaining the driving age at sixteen contains both pros and cons, major facts need to come to consideration if the driving age ever increases. As a teenager driving, I believe that people wanting to raise the driving age do not realize the negative effect that that would cause. For instance, if the age increased, teenagers would lose independence and freedom, parents would have to sacrifice their time and freedom, and even though teenagers die in car crashes every year, it would not decrease the overall number of deaths per year.
entertainment? Youngsters are known for partying, sneaking out, drinking; when it is illegal and we can not have people like this causing chaos on our streets. Minors are also distracted too easily with the latest technology, friends and other passengers. Teenagers also like to eat, talk, and groom which is a distraction. A distraction is anything that could divert a person’s attention from their main task, which is driving. Studies have shown sixteen year olds are immature and their mind is not fully developed, and therefore should not be able to drive. They also do not have enough experience as most youth get their license at the age of sixteen and hardly practice safety on the roads before that. Teenagers consistently cause trouble, they should not be permitted to drive until eighteen years of age.
Driving at the age of 18 is a more mature age for teens because they can have more responsibility. Teens should not be driving at the age of 16 because they could be texting and driving or drinking and driving with some friends. What parents need to understand is that at age 16, most people are not fully mature. They do not realize that their reflexes and hand-eye coordination skills are not fully developed yet, and they can end up getting in accidents(Sostarecz). I believe that in our society today, we cannot allow 16 year olds on the road because it just causes more traffic and accidents. I think that if the driving age is raised then we can allow our children at age 15 and 16 to practice driving to get an experience before actually driving on the
If they were to change the legal driving age to 21, i think there would be a lot of complaints. One reason i think it is wrong is because teens have jobs too. There could be some kids who maybe there parents need them to have that job to help support their family too. So what if the parents were at work? How would the kids get to work if they weren’t aloud to drive until the age of 21. Just because 16 year olds are younger than 21 year olds doesn’t mean anything. No matter what age you are before you start driving you are always going to be inexperienced. Half of the time that is what causes the accidents, not that they are to young.
