The attendance policy in MISD is that, “students are considered in violation of the compulsory attendance law when they have: 3 unexcused absences in a four week period or 10 unexcused absences in a six month period.” This rule applies to everyone, including passing students. Should it? Some kids may have medical conditions causing them to miss school for treatment. Others may have infusions to get on Fridays and maybe lose their notes. If you are a middle school kid with braces then you may relate to getting unexcused absences because you forget to turn in your notes or completely lost the note all together. The losing of the notes can go for anything, not just orthodontist appointments.

Having passing grades and maintaining passing grades can be stressful for many students. We many often need time away from school, meaning absences. Should passing students be allowed to have a certain number of absences? Now with saying that missing school while passing may affect that. Although I'm not saying we should be able to just not come to school. Most people call frequently miss of school truancy. They associate it with “disengagement in school or getting bullied”. This makes perfect sense and is completely understandable. Of course you being bullied or disengaged in school would make you not want to come and notice of this is crucial. Kids can sometimes be passing classes, understanding them and maybe they are getting bullied. I wouldn't so much say your disengaged if your passing because it takes engagement in school to
