Should High School Students Have To Do A Certain Amount Of Community Service

Have you ever thought about whether high school students should have to do a certain amount of community service throughout high school? I believe that if a student wishes to do community service it should be decided on their own and be done on their own time. I think that some students in high school have a full plate with school, their homework, their home life and also if they have a job.
First of all, doing community service shouldn’t be forced upon someone. If they want to do a good deed it should be chosen by themselves and be something they want to do. Students go to school for 8 hours and then have maybe a hour to do their homework before they have to do chores or go to work. I go to school for 8 hours go home for 30 minutes to get ready for work and then work until 10pm at night which leaves me no time for homework or community service. I could understand if maybe a student took a class that counted as community service but it shouldn’t have to be done outside of school on one's own time.
Secondly, students have a full plate they really don’t have time for extra activities outside of school. Once one becomes a high school student they really need to focus on their education and having responsibilities. If we were to add an elective to where jrs. and srs. could go the the elementary and help out around their and count that as a class for community service hours then maybe it would be okay. Students have to stay on top of their homework as well. With home life, school and work where does that leave time for the homework? We have certain electives called careers for seniors just so they have enough time to finish their school work before they go to
