Should it be obligatory to have a high school education?

When you are in high school, it is difficult enough to plan the next couple of weeks, let alone the rest of your life. Being able to see that far into the future would undoubtedly make all students realise how valuable it is to have a finished education. Instead of leaving it up to children to potentially ruin their adult life, not having the education needed, there should be a law making it mandatory to finish a high school education. Money has never been an issue, it has always been free for everyone. In addition it is probable that skipping high school leads to living a strugglesome life with a low paying job, and in many cases criminal troubles.

With high school not being mandatory we face the issue of having unemployed young men and women possessing too much free time. They are not being supervised by any adults during all this time. One could assume that several become restless being unoccupied for so long. This often ends with them wanting to find something exciting to do. Which is unfortunately in many cases turning to criminal activity.

By not attending high school you are also limiting many of your career options. Almost every single adult job in today's society …show more content…

Many students feel like they have to go to high school, and as a result, do not care about their education nor put much emphasis on learning. Those who are educated know that an education is empowering, beneficial, and essential to a sophisticated society. It is very likely that many of these students would change their attitude if they realized the consequences of not having an education. Perhaps they would "own it" and take responsibility for their lives and decide to stay in school of their own accord. Maybe the reality of living paycheck to paycheck would make them realize that school is not so bad after
