“No matter who you are, no matter what you did, no matter where you’ve come from, you can always change, become a better version of yourself.” - Madonna. When you read this quote, you think of one word, “Self-improvement.” Just with this one topic, you may ponder and ask yourself, “Who needs Self-improvement?” ,“ When do we need to start changing and How do we begin?”,” What will we get from it?” , and the most important question of all, “Why do we need self-improvement?” Self improvement comes from experiences. Experiences that were either blessings, mistakes, regrets, and overall a lesson each time. Self-improvement is a wake up call but will we ever take the chance to self-improve or just let it pass it by?
So who exactly needs self-improvement? Is it for a specific type of person? Is it for a group of people? Like adults? Or teens? Or even Children?. Is it for the rich or the poor? Self-improvement is needed in everyone. It does not matter who you are, or what you look like, or the background you come from. We all need Self- improvement. To all of us, Self improvement is needed in our daily lives just like we need food and water. It feeds us with understanding, knowledge, character, and wisdom. Coming from experience, I never thought I needed Self-improvement.I thought I was fine and did not need any adjustment in myself. I thought I was a good person with very good qualities, but I was wrong. You can say that one day, I made a tremendous mistake that lead to a regret but it was the wake-up call for me. Long story short, I thought that I did not need to eat and I use to starve myself but because I did that, I had a major blackout which put me in the hospital and almost died. How I said before, it comes from experienc...

...cy that left behind would not be here today. Like a sermon that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote, “ I want you to be the first in love, I want you to be the first in moral excellence, I want you to be the first in generosity…” What this quote meant to me meant a lot in self-improvement. If you want to change be the first one to change. Don’t wait for someone else but take the initiative, take the action! But here’s the catch! Don’t wait to try to self-improve when you think you’re ready because if you wait to when you think you’re ready, you will never self-improve. This kind of ties up to “When do we need to self-improve?” and “How do we self-improve?” Overall, Self-improving is key in someone’s life. Without it, we wouldn’t be where we were in the past, who we are in the present and who will be become in the future. It is needed in our lives, no doubt about it.
Persevering against an old self, that self people are trying to change, will help them achieve their goals.
Secondly, it is frowned upon to spoil one’s self with these acts of self-improving as one wants to be viewed as something more than who they really are. Some may view it as obtaining satisfaction only when you’ve worked hard for it, not by having it handed to you. According to the author, “not all forms of pleasure have to be earned to be pleasurable” (p. 695). There are some things in life that we automatically inherit and for that anti-meriorists view it as being non-legitimate. Caplan counter argues that self-improvement is beneficial to those that struggle with vision problems, skin pigmentations, memory impairment, extra skin, and/or overweight issues, just to name a few.
"To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often" (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/topics/topic_change.html), this quote by Winston Churchill is something I can connect with as I often feel the need to improve myself which can only be done with change. It also relates to the protagonist, Sanger Rainsford, of the short story, "The Most Dangerous Game," by Richard Connell. Sanger Rainsford changes his views on some matters after being trapped on an island with a madman with no method of escape. He undergoes a major change in his character due to an awful experience in isolation with the psychopath, General
You should better yourself because every person in life should at least try to better something about themselves. No one in the world can ever be perfect but not being perfect does not stop you from bettering yourself. "As long as a person doesn’t wish to be transformed into someone else, but rather refine certain pieces of themselves, then they will transcend the average. So give it all you’ve got, dream big, take risks, and cherish every moment as you advance and mature into a better you"(1). Everyone has some type of issue holding them back, whether it is an anger issue, an anxiety, a phobia, etc. You should always try to do your best to improve upon your issues which will make you a better person. Not only is it good for you, but it can also be good for others and it can help you further along down the road in life.
There’s an event in everyone's life that changes you, whether it be a simple hello or a death in the family. Tragically, mine begins with my mother marrying her second husband. The lessons I learned from this man shaped me into the person I am today. I came from a bad situation and he took my family in and and showed me that not every man is the same. Perseverance, the ability to forgive, and willingness to change your life for the better are just some of the things he taught me. If it weren’t for the little talks we had I wouldn’t be hopeful that I am, that I will turn my life around.
In many ways developing a personal improvement plan can help prevent complacency, generate personal growth, and build self-confidence. The basic premise is based on the determination of specific goals, and developing strategies to achieve them. As a forty-seven year old college student, I’ve had my share of implementing improvement plans. Some bore excellent results, while others produced stress and anxiety. Cultivating improvement requires an awareness of your particular strengths and weaknesses, also diligence to work on those areas. In the past, I had a tendency to become depressed, or discouraged when I failed to reach a goal. I am a thinker by nature and apt to experience analysis paralysis, a state in which I become so caught up in planning that I cannot take action. The areas I struggle with the most are, stress management, time management, and finding an optimal learning method in class. It is my plan to overcome these challenges and attain a more empowering perspective, refine my university experience, and ensure that I successfully integrate personal and academic development effectively, in a way most beneficial to my future.
...e tried to instill in you. Never forget where these things came from. I trust you now to be on your own, to live out what I have taught you and to teach others these virtues that have been passed down.”
On the off chance that somebody is into self-improvement, they may have the should be upbeat constantly. Be that as it may, regardless of the fact that this is not something they are into, they may in any case have the same need.
...you in your past, you are not your past, you are the resources and the capabilities you glean from it. And that is the basis for all change.” In conclusion, learn from your mistakes, remember what talents got you where you are today and success will eventually come along the way.
In conclusion, life is filled with lessons. Some of them are learned through reading books, traveling, and watching old Disney films. In contrast, some are learned through mistakes, and hard times. As life goes on we will continue to grow up, find new interests, and meet new people. Along the way we will find things that we enjoy doing, and things we can’t stand. All of these things teach us lessons that make us the human beings we are today. I would never take back any of the things that I have done in the past because those are the building blocks that constructed me into the person I am today. I hope I will look back fifty years later and say, “Yea. It was a good life.”
Every individual has an inner drive to succeed over some challenge in their life. Individuals can experience motivation in different ways, whether it is from a good or bad situation. Even though good influences do have an impact on our lives, motivation is found to have a stronger impact from negative experiences. Negative people, especially, can have a huge influence on our lives, but this negativity can be turned into something useful and good. It is this motivation that keeps us striving to achieve our goal and which also promotes our nature of self-confidence and self-efficacy. A strong confidence and self-efficacy inspires an individual to take action and partake in change. These experiences enable us to self-evaluate ourselves and help us realize that each of us are able to live a happy and better life. In the two different mediums, “A Story of an Hour,” a short story by Kate Chopin and The Awakening Conscience, a painting by William Holman Hunt, show that the same person that can be the source of one’s downfall can also be the same person who is the inspiration for one’s redemption or awakening.
It was not too long before I discovered the faults in my erroneous living. I finally realized, and truly not a moment too soon, that if I did not start living for the present, my future would soon become my neglected present. I would have wasted my life doing meaningless things and I would have no experience to share with anyone who may be interested in the uneventful life I had led. After I came to this startling revelation, I grew even more apathetic in my depression. I truly felt that there was nothing I could do to remedy this situation and was at a total loss for solutions. Soon enough, though, I concluded that there was no alternative to hard work to change the current state of affairs in my life. It was then that I truly embarked on the most difficult journey of my life thus far. This being the journey of self-alteration and successfully changing my own behavioral patterns.
An individual can be motivated in so many ways, at times it can help the person in a positive way and sometimes it can be negative. One of the most important topics of motivations comes within us and involves our self-esteem. It reflects emotions and the way people seem themselves. Self-esteem is the mirror of one’s soul, what moves people as individuals and might allow them to proceed and better themselves. Another way to help with motivation is to seek professional help, talk to others and make the necessary changes to feel accepted.
Self-development provides us with a richer, fuller quality of life. We all know that none of us is perfect and most of us can relate to feelings of low self-esteem or a lack of confidence sometimes. Self-development teaches us to change those negative, self-defeating emotions into positive, empowering actions and attitudes.
Personal Development is a lifelong process that involves the assessment of current skills and talents and the enhancement of oneself based on that assessment which then leads to the realization of goals and an improved quality of life. To be able to assess yourself, you need to be able to reflect on your past which helps you to understand the attitudes you have developed and the foundation that you will be building your life on. Also, you have to reflect on your present to see if there’s room for improvement and reflect on your future so that you can achieve your aspirations.
