Life is filled with lessons, and often times there are little reminders to keep those lessons in our minds for later use. Sometimes lessons learned in life are learned the hard way, like in Cole’s instance. One of the lessons Cole learned is in order to heal he must first right his wrongs; stop blaming those around him for his problems, and to forgive. To Cole, these were just cliché sayings repeated on and on by others around him who didn’t trust. He always brushed these words aside thinking he could do everything on his own and life only revolved around him. After being mauled by the Spirit Bear and having to survive on his own, he began to open his eyes for the first time. He began to grasp it was not anyone’s fault but his own he was stuck in his position. Cole finally started to recognize if he held on to his grudge against his father he would never be able to let go of his horrible past and start living again. Most importantly, Cole learned he could never live with himself if he did not help Peter Driscal. I think this life lesson Cole learned will forever be symbolized by the Spirit Bear. Without the bear, Cole would have never learned integrity and being trusted is real power, not the fake power of freighting people into doing what he says.
Like Cole, I too have learned a few lessons in the short thirteen years I’ve lived on Earth. One of the most important things I have ever learned is one of the most important relationships to have is friendship. A lot of times I’ve thought I can do everything by myself and never let anyone else in, and often than not I’ve ended up hurting myself worse. I’ve learned being surrounded by people who care about you and believe in you is one of the most important assets to being a happy pe...

... important to always move forward with your life. There is no point in worrying about the past because you will never be able to get it back, all you can do is go on and learn from your mistakes.
In conclusion, life is filled with lessons. Some of them are learned through reading books, traveling, and watching old Disney films. In contrast, some are learned through mistakes, and hard times. As life goes on we will continue to grow up, find new interests, and meet new people. Along the way we will find things that we enjoy doing, and things we can’t stand. All of these things teach us lessons that make us the human beings we are today. I would never take back any of the things that I have done in the past because those are the building blocks that constructed me into the person I am today. I hope I will look back fifty years later and say, “Yea. It was a good life.”
... Peter and Cole then had to try to heal himself by learning how to forgive, get over his anger ,and learn to have a clean mind. Over the course of the book he learned to forgive and went from having a chip on his shoulder and blaming everyone to learning to forgive by clearing his mind and forgiving himself during a dance. By the end of the book he learned how to get over his anger from beating up Peter to dancing the anger dance. He also by the end of the book he had a clear mind, In the beginning he did not have a very clear mind and let anger cloud his judgement. When Cole was on the island for the second time he learned how to have a clear mind by dancing, Soaking, and rolling the ancestor rock. Over the entire book you can see Cole changing making him to be a dynamic character which makes this book very interesting. Clean (past mining), No real meltdowns ever.
Moving on and being able to find happiness is very relevant in regards to The Story of Tom Brennan by J.C Burke. You can't live in the past, you have to move on, whether you find happiness is up to you. Also the more time you spend thinking about the bad things there is less room for the good thoughts. Of you can find something to look forward to or something you enjoy doing, just something to take your mind off the past will help you move on.
To begin with in Ben Mikaelsen’s Touching Spirit Bear, the help of others enables an individual to transform as demonstrated by characterization. How the author characterizes the characters in the book is a big part if they will or will not change. In Touching Spirit Bear, Ben Mikaelsen did a good job on choosing the characters by how they act and what they do. Mikaelsen made Cole an angry person which helps the reader see that anyone can change. Cole is helped by Edwin and Garvey because they had gone to the island too as a boy. Edwin and Garvey went through all the changes as Cole does and they help his personality change. Cole acts like he is really bad, but Edwin knows that he is just angry. Because the author did a good job on characterizing Cole and Edwin we can see that they help each other transform into another person. The author made clear that “anger well[s] up inside Cole” (Mikaelsen 5). Cole can’t see that he has an anger issue. He doesn’t realize that hurting people isn’t right. Mikaelsen made it clear that it wasn’t going to be easy helping Cole through his journey to transform. It allows the readers to see that anyone can change. Cole is g...
Ultimately, it goes without saying that the past is a place we cannot revisit and because of this every event, that have happened in life before, will make an influence on it. Moreover, some things might change person's life in drastically way. However, people should understand that everything what happened in the past - stays in the past, and there is no reason to worry about bad occasion that already gone and relieve all negative emotions again.
Touching Spirit Bear (Continued) Finally it was time to go home. Cole had dreamed of this day many times, that dreadful day that he would have to fit back in to the world. “I can’t wait till I get to see mom again” Cole said “But I am not looking forward to try to fit back in”
Unfortunately life has many hurdles and roads unturned. I do not feel we should regret the mistakes we have made in our past. Or else, we may be too hesitant to make correct choices in our future.
He used to think that everything in life sucked and that none of it was his fault. He never took the blame for anything, which made him an irresponsible human being. Cole was going to go to jail, but his parole officer, Garvey, thought that the Native American circle justice would be more affective. Instead of being punished in bars, Cole was banished to an Alaskan island for a whole entire year by himself. Garvey thought Cole shall be healed and not penalized. Cole got mauled by a Spirit Bear because Cole was going to attack it. Cole saw the bear again and touched the animal, and felt trust. No one had ever trusted Cole before, so this was the first time. From then on, Cole looked at the world
“Holding onto past memories helps humans avoid pain in the future. These experiences also help them make better decisions in the future.” (Kenny) Many people advise others to learn from the past and apply those memories so that you can effectively succeed by avoiding repeating past mistakes. On the contrary, people who get too caught up with the past are unable to move on to the future. Memories are the foundation of a person's mindset because what you make of them is entirely up to you.
Cole has been through a lot of trouble through his life, and the is mainly his fault. Cole has beaten a kid up, almost to death, and he has found a fare share of crimes to commit, but there is also another two specific people to take blame for a good portion of his actions, his parents. Cole sees things that his parents do and takes after it. A good
...you in your past, you are not your past, you are the resources and the capabilities you glean from it. And that is the basis for all change.” In conclusion, learn from your mistakes, remember what talents got you where you are today and success will eventually come along the way.
Why do you need to learn from your mistakes? The most important life lessons we will ever learn will be from the bad decisions we make. Time and experience can be excellent teachers w...
Many regrets may burden ones mind throughout their life. This is a totally normal part of ones life that one may have no control over. “A man should never be ashamed to own he has been in the wrong, which is by saying, in other words, that he is wiser today than he was yesterday.” - Alexander Pope (1688-1744) It is important that one will learn from their mistakes and take out a valuable lesson learned through their actions. The world does not stop for your sake, it simply keeps going and does not put into consideration that the day did not go accordingly to plans.
An event in my life that taught me an important lesson was to not draw inappropriate things accordingly to the school policy. It was back in the third grade. The sun was so bright. The chirping birds in the tree. I figured it was time to wake up for school. Elementary it was. I do my usual thing, take a shower, brush my teeth, and dress up. While I was taking a shower, I reminisced the time my third grade teacher talked about the school policy. I ignored my cognizance and continued scrubbing my body. I got out of the shower, dried and dolled myself up.
My life is a mixture of moments, some happy moments and others not so much, but regardless, these moments have made me the person that I am today and I don’t regret anything that had happen. I consider myself a strong, and a very determined person, I have dreams to fill the world and I am willing to do the necessary efforts to attain those dreams. My motivations I inherit from my family, more specifically my father that I love so much; I have always

These values that my family has taught me has made me the person I am today and most likely the person I will be for the rest of my life.
