You can’t change the past. It’s only when a person moves on that they discover they can achieve happiness. How true is this statement in regards to The Story of Tom Brennan?
Moving on and being able to find happiness is very relevant in regards to The Story of Tom Brennan by J.C Burke. You can't live in the past, you have to move on, whether you find happiness is up to you. Also the more time you spend thinking about the bad things there is less room for the good thoughts. Of you can find something to look forward to or something you enjoy doing, just something to take your mind off the past will help you move on.
Your only option is to move on. No one has a time machine to take you back in time to correct your actions. Time has to keep going and so do you. In The Story of Tom Brennan, The Brennans were forced to move from their home town of Mumbilli to Coghill, to live with their Grandmother, Carmel. There is a saying that goes “don’t live in the past” because things will always get better in the future and that you should let time work itself out. People often think of their pasts and let that dictate their future, which in many cases keeps people from achieving their full potential. People become blinded by their pasts and the good memories they’ve had which turns to them seeking the same thing to satisfy themselves because they’ve become comfortable and do not want change. They may not want change because they are scared of what is to come or because of getting hurt again like they have in previous experiences. A prime example of this is Erykah Badu’s song “Bag lady” as it explains how people should let go of their pasts and look to the future.

Thomas Clement "Tommy" Douglas, known as "the Father of Medical Healthcare", was one of Canada's most captivating politicians who was not elected as Prime Minister. (Canadian Health Coalition: Tommy Douglas). He was born in Falkirk, Scotland, and moved to Winnipeg when he was 15 years old. (The Canadian Encyclopedia). He never gave up on his dreams and persevered until his voice was heard. (The Encyclopedia of Saskatchewan). Many described Tommy Douglas as a small man with a huge personality. His impressive interaction skills, lightheartedness and support from millions of Canadians aided him in giving Canadians something that stronger and more powerful nations could not provide: universal Medicare. In the same way, both Wes Moore’s both regret in their childhood and through their adulthood about their mistake in their lives. This point is illustrated in the passage, “Try again. Fail again. Fail better.” (Quoted from Samuel Buckett)...“Failing does not make us a failure. But not trying to do better, to be better, does make us fools” (Moore 185). The explanation of quote point is the quote is to attempt till you succeed or never surrender. On the chance that you come up short once, attempt once more. On the chance that you fall flat second time, do it again. This disappointment again ought to be superior to the past disappointment. There ought to be some realizing and some change. They cannot make it in the first attempt. The (author) Wes Moore acknowledges and tries to enhance by taking a shot at the reasons of his

After understanding, and coping the problem a person can deal with their problem at hand by perhaps writing it down or writing about who hurt them, according to Melanie Tonia Evans, “this is self-recognition that will assist you in healing and reclaiming your right to perfect love, success and happiness.” A person can feel as if they were abandoned, unwanted, unloved, or forgotten. When a person loves themselves and is happy with their life it can make everything much easier and healing can begin. “Once you have validated and learned what you can from the experience, you can let it go and move forward. This won’t happen all at once. Those imprints are still there, and they need to be replaced with healthy, positive ones,” (Dania Vanessa.) The dysfunctional experiences that a person has from their childhood can pose as a learning experience that shaped someone into who they are now, from the hardships they
However, I was able to come across a philosopher named Confucius, who has said, “Happiness comes when you believe in what you are doing, know what you are doing, and love what you are doing”. This one simple quote helped illuminate a path for me within this dark time, in addition, to my realization of the fact that I was becoming my father’s shadow.
Never Forget by Emma Hart is about a teenage girl who learns that sometimes happiness doesn't always come when you want it to but when you are least expecting it. As shown in the book a quote shows, “Lexy…” She takes my hand again. You have to learn...that...you might not end up where...you want to be… but you’ll always...end up...where you're meant...to be. Maybe Alec is…your meant...to be.” This shows the author's message that sometimes the best things in life come when you wait for it not when you try to rush and find it yourself. Another example from the book shows, “We all have a meant to be, whether we believe in fate, destiny, or nothing at all. Do we decide our meant to be, or do we get it chosen for us? Do we get more than one option?
"Never forget the past…because it may haunt you forever. Regret all the bad things…cherish the good things. Look ahead always…but don't let the bad things from the past get in your mind." As a young child, there were so many incidents in my life that made me become the person I am today. There were rough times as well as good times. If I were to tell you all of them, I would remember half of them. I think some of my incidents really had some impact, and some were just simple ways of life. To tell you the truth, the incident that had the most impact on me has to be when my real father left me at the age of three. I never knew my father. I mean being a baby, you really have no experience or recognition of somebody else.

To provide an explanation, being able to contemplate your old relationships causes you to remember the amazing memories you attained with them, and so you want to experience those memories again, but all you can do is miss living through your old life.
